Why do Europeans like the US?

Let us try to be positive:

10. They speak a sorta of quaint variant of that
well known international language english.

9. Eddison developed electricity which is useful.

8. They amuse us; thinking ideas can be owned.

7. They kicked the Afghans asses.

6. We got rid of our convicts there.

5. They showed us the moon's backside.

4. I really love Star Trek/Star Gate.

3. The Simpsons makes me laugh..

2. Greavius/RM Sharpe .. etc makes me laugh

1. They produced computer games like Civ.

Come on. Don't vote. Give us your reasons.

How about the fact that we bail you out every time you get mixed up in something?

Ummmm....Edison didn't really develop electricity. All the really big inventions (like batteries and dynamos) had already been made, and he actually held back progress by championing DC and waging a particularly nasty slanging match against the AC approach used by Westinghouse.

In fact, his attempts to prove that AC was too dangerous to contemplate resulted in the first electric chair.

I am tempted to say 'like what'. However this question
can only be accurately answered by Europeans commenting.

hehe...

I think that most Europeans like America because we have the loudest shouting pop culture on the planet.

And since most of Europe would be speaking Russian now instead of their native tongue if America wouldn't have poured BILLIONS of dollars into the Cold War, I think that Europeans should like us a bit better. :p

I love Europe, but dislike the dislike shown by many Europeans towards the U.S. :D

>>>I don't think so.

>>>It was already discussed before ;)....it's about your attitude towards money and your morale lessons whereas you trained Bin Laden and installed dictatorships to counter-strike communism.

Rmsharpe! Don't start, boy!

From my experience.
I like the USA because while it is far from a perfect nation,
many of it's people are actually pleasant and good natured.
And adding their unique culture and mfg goods to the great human mix!

And also for hacky sacks.

But!

As for helping us out when we Europeans 'get mixed up'.

Don't make me laugh!

WW1
France and Britian did most of the dying in WW1, before the US decided to come over and get their feet dirty.

WW2
We in the UK stood alone against the Nazis for ages before the yanks deemed to turn up and do some bombing.
I don't count selling the UK 50-year old battleships as 'help'...

America got involved because you were next!
it wasn't to 'help' us, it was to prevent a nazi superpower glaring at you from across the Atlantic!
As it is you got a Soviet superpower instead.

Hey! But we appreciate the help, nonetheless! We are allies, OK!

Cold War Era
And in the coldwar, what did Europe have to fear?
We did not need all the US hardware here all that time.
The USSR knew if they tried something funny, the UK and France would blast them with our sub-based ICBMs anyway.

There never would have been a nuke war...

Anyway, I like the USA, despite it's faults.

And I love Hacky Sack!!!

I like the Americans because eventhough the whole world laughs at them they don't notice. ;)

Sure I am greatful for all that WW1, WW2 and Cold War help, some of it was a bit late but thanks all the same. But listen, your country is starting to rot from the inside and if you aren't careful it could all fall apart......

I'm sure you didn't leave us out on purpose but I just wanted to make a note of the fact that Canadians stood valiantly at your side both times around. :)

I find as I read these that more and more people like to throw backhand compliments and half-assed insults in them.

This ends NOW.

If I read another litte "joke", the poster that says it will wonder what fell on them.

MrPresident - as of now, Afghanistan allows freedom of speech. Thats more common than the right to vote.

Yeah probably. I just skimmed through the other replies.

This forum isn't "America", and I find the lack of class shown by many non-US citizens indicative of the true state of affairs.

Be that as it may, I like sarcasim VERY little Mr President, bare that in mind.

I allowed a 300 post tour de force of whine, this is supposed to be the inverse, so if I see any more "cute" protests, that poster will be banned.

If you can't act in a civilized manner, don't post here.

OK, serious post:

I like the "can-do attitude" that exists in the US.

I like the American distaste for large govt.

I like the disregard that Americans have for the ROW (although not the ignorance). A bit like we once where, and still are when it comes to Europe.

I like the fact that they are our premier ally ;)
