The UN does lots of good work like feeding the hungry, immunising people, fighting disease, housing refugees. I don't see why some of you have a such a big beef about it.
Why do many of you hate the UN so much?

the UN tends to end up taking the view of one country... during the cold war, the UN was looked at as aiding soviet/communist interests. today, it's looked at as American... I meen Geeze, they bomb nation after nation without the UN saying its ok...

How does the UN help the United States?
Many of its agencies surpass in corruption even the extreme characature of corrupt bureaucracy.

the UN hasent indidited Izbegotivz {spelling?} the leader of the bosnians, even though there's crebable evedance he commited war crimes. they dident stop the US in bombing Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo, and I dont think they made any official anything in the war in Afganistan. although I agree with the US's stance in Afganistan and even Kosovo, I feel that the Germans and Americans started the Bosnain war, and should respectfully pay.

I... dont know...
like WW1 lead to WW2, Bosnia, lef to Kosovo. so perhaps, the US and Germany should have to pay $$$ to rebuild Bosnia & Yugoslavia to not only what it was BEFORE the war, but to what it would be today at a reasonable level of economig growth. its a high price, but look at what happened in Afgansitan when the US dident do that.

Actually...I don't what he means.
But what I do know is that the UN is a step in the right direction and has done MANY good things for this world. Like AH said, feeding the hungry, immunising people, fighting disease, housing refugees....of course trying to keep the peace, and be a global democratic body where all nations can have their voices heard by all....and MEAN something. They help spread globalization (which I feel is good)
All in all..it helps bring people and countries together. Dispite some of it's bad moves......it brings countries together.

it does do alot of things, good and bad, but it certainley dosent keep the world safe from democracy. what about a nation that votes a hitler into office, and keeps freeley electing him? according to the rules of democracy we cant do anyhting. most of us would agree of course that we should... but then who's to say who is wrong? the UN? the USA?
There is nothing we SHOULD do. I mean.....it's there country, they can do what they like. If the elections are being rigged....or information is flawed, then the UN should step in to set things striaght.
Of course....if he starts killing millions the UN should step in and "evacuate" the people in trouble, there is really nothing they should do to stop him....but by that point he's broken sooooooo many international laws and commited sooooooo many war crimes that we can blow his brains out and be within our limits.
Of course....they could just leave the UN.

Lots of the people on this site are young right wing Americans, who are freightened and ignorant of the outside world, and see anything which isn't 100% dominated by the United States as scary and a potential menace.

Why should the UN help the U.S.? The UN is meant to promote and sometimes enforce worldwide peace. Sometimes the goals of the UN may conflict with those of the U.S., but given the U.S's stranglehold over it, that is not likely.
