Why do people always wear shoes in their house on TV shows?

If I've been out I usually do until I need to sleep or shower.

I know a few people who do it. Normally its if they have pets or something that could really mess up the carpet.

It all depends on culture, really. Indian people never do it (unless they're 5th generation Americanized homogenous Indians). The Chinese people I know usually wear slippers, but not full-blown shoes, and only on hardwood to prevent slipping and stuff.

You need to quit watching TV ... and get back to gaming.

Interesting point though -- obviously it's because it's a show with actors who trample around repeatedly filming, not to mention writers who aren't that bright (especially these days).

Wearing shoes indoors is an absolute necessity for me.

Why? Because ten days after I got Guitar Hero 3, the controller got zapped by static electricity and it took two weeks to replace it. I have to wear shoes indoors in order to hop up on stage and put the shred down on people.

I always wear shoes in the house. Never figured anyone would find that odd.

Dirty Carpets? Try having 3 cats.

almost everyone in Ireland wears shoes indoors FWIW. I went to a party with these Swedish girls a few years back and they made me take my shoes off (and the rest, but thats another story)

The studio sets are quickly made, and can usually have loose screws lying around.

You've never considered wearing shoes indoors is unhygenic? Most Swedes would be offended if you wore shoes in their house.
Most Swedes would beg me to put my shoes back on. Trust me on this one. This whole hygenic hype is over the top. A little dirt on the carpet won't kill you.

I always wear socks and only put on shoes when I'm going out. But when I come home I usually leave my shoes on unless my feet are sore or somethng then I take them off. I also always wear shoes while at someone elses houses unless explicitly asked to do otherwise.
Going anywhere outside of my own house without shoes just seems downright wrong to me, not to mention unsafe.

The only reason I would kick off my shoes is if I'm not going anywhere for the rest of the day, or if I feel like relaxing.

Hygenics? Clean carpets? Psshaw, the house is mostly hardwood, anyway.

Onset health and safety.

Do you really think it is writers who stipulate that shoes have to be worn? Yeah, major dramatic significance...

[edit] And I've got to say, this has been one of the most inane subjects for a thread in ages. Bloody good work! :goodjob:
