Why has the Deluxe Edition disappeared from the pre-order options?

i can't wait to develop some bowman strat (like quechua rush or praets or something) and abuse that mechanic to dominate everyone who can't get the deluxe edition.

Something tells me you won't be able to play as Babylon against people without the Deluxe Edition.

For Bioshock 2, 2k had multiplayer DLC that was included on every retail DvD and every download of the game. Months later, after release of the game, they released the DLC. When everyone who bought it noticed the download was only 24kbs, they figured out that everyone had the DLC already, and that the 24kbs download just unlocked it. When questioned about it 2k's response was that they included it for everyone this way so that the multiplayer community wouldnt be split, and so everyone, DLC or not, could play together. I believe they will do something just like this.

as someone who was waiting to see what the retail options were before pre ordering on steam, I hope the deluxe addition has not been removed this early

Kind of hoping the Deluxe version got cancelled, or at least the "€/$10 extra to get Babylon" is gone and is now part of the normal version. A Deluxe could stay with "useless" extras like a paper tech-tree, thicker manual or whatever. I'd still pay gladly for that, if for no other reason than to show my appreciation for the great (no, best) game Civilization has always been.
If not, please please please make it available to us poor Europeans again, preferably before the pre-order benefits vanish.

Hey guys; sorry I didn't see this thread earlier.

I'm checking in to this right now and I'll let you guys know what is up as soon as I know.

Thank you. :goodjob:

Completely agreed.

I think one of the most underhanded and douchy things a developer can do is add a "deluxe/premium/limited/collector's" edition of the game and have it unlock exclusive in-game features (that 99% of the time are already present in the game-files).

We want to pay you, and we want your game. Stop nickel-and-diming us by locking existing features until we pay the extra fee. This is fine for expansions or future DLCs but when I'm buying a new game, make it a good experience for me and not make me think either:

1. "Maybe I should have paid more unlock that civ/weapon/map"

-OR-

2. "I feel like a sucker for paying for this premium content"

This is the same for preorder "bonuses". Why should a gamer be penalized for simply buying the game later than others? It makes no sense, their money is just as good. Stop trying to undermine the importance of demos, we don't want to pay you without reading the reviews and trying out the game for ourselves just because there is a pressure to pre-order for the extra content.

What ZimbuTheMonkey said. Deluxe editions done correctly can make a nice purchase but keeping civs away from people until they hand over another $10 is lame in my opinion. Civilization have always done expansions well, so I'm really hoping they aren't going down the route of bleeding us dry for every little civ and unit they could add.

just bumping this back up to the top so it dose not get forgotten

Thanks! Really hoping 2k Greg doesn't forget about this...
Checked on steam store and it hasn't been fixed there yet.

Perhaps too much to hope, but maybe they decided to not go with the paid DLC option?

Feel free to speculate. :mischief:. I honestly don't know what to think. Maybe they're lowering the non-American prices back to reasonable levels? at paying 90USD for the Deluxe Edition!

I have not forgotten! E3 week is really busy, so nobody has been able to get an answer to me yet. E3 is over now though, so hopefully I will get an answer very soon.

If I preorder do I get CDs mailed to me or do I simply download the game?

I hate physical goods. Download only is my preference.

I agree that having deluxe/non-deluxe is stupid. If you need to generate more revenue from us fanatics then how about offering interesting non-game accessories.

E.g. have a Civ Fanatic's contest to make some awesome game posters that are references. Unit upgrade charts et cetera. 2K helps get the posters made for cheap and the contest winners get a cut of the sales profit. I would gladly pay $10 to have the reference charts my fellow fanatics create as wall charts.

Alternatively, folks here could make posters on their own. It might help if 2k could some how authorize (copyright and tradmark wise) fan created reference material.

You could also sell Civ5 hats. E.g. special hats for different leaders (E.g. Washington tricorn). How about Civ5 shirts with witty slogans.

Perhaps a Civ specific cafepress.com type website. (Civ specific in the sense that Firaxis/2k get a cut of the proceeds and copyright / trademark issues have been cleared).

I couldn't agree more !! I hope somebody from 2k will see this. I want a t-shirt, poster, game chart, nice box or.... And nice idea with the fan designed accessories.:goodjob:

Ooo, and, could somebody make some pool about those idea, i.e. do people want in-game content, non-game accessories, fan designed, or whatever Deluxe content ? I don't know how to do a pool...

How can you hate physical goods, then go on to promote them? ;)
