Why have incels gotten so much attention?

Honestly, the son should spend time in prison.

What kind of man inspires confidence in protecting a little girl from his predator son crying in shame and begging her forgiveness.
I mean, I am pretty sure it's fake, but many comments are saying they know people like this in real life, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sadly, some people turn out pure evil no matter how well their parents raise them. I've had to watch that first hand.

that seems brutal. sorry to hear.

Doesn't clear the base level "everything you read on the internet is true" bar, eh? It isn't for me.

To take another comment from the post, even this particular story as written is fake, it's a real scenario somewhere, and thus important. Incels don't just appear fully formed from the void.

How do we even know it’s fake?

Pretty clever to sow the unexamined hints for why such a man who did everything fine and reasonable on the surface of things was actually exactly the man who'd fail to prevent such a son from arising, in a work of fiction.

But I too had my "this is fake" alarm triggered.

You can tell it's fake by the way it is

In this particular case, I'm actually not so sure, but I'd definitely lay some odds on it being fake. It's too easy. It hits all the right notes.

I don't think it's fake, it sounds so self-righteous and one sided it has to be true. This dad could not have protrayed himself better, he even went out of his way to apologize for his violence (which wasn't that bad) when his son was "attacking" him.

with what intention would someone write a fake story like this? to garnet hatred for incels? to get reddit gold? just for the lulz? I don't know, doesn't seem right to me. also, the part about the perfect boyfriend of his daughter kind of gets me. seems very unreal, like he intentionally left out any negative things. it's a compelling story is for sure.

Where it becomes troubling is that it could mislead our explorations for what kind of parenting and environment leads to real life incels. But the part about apologizing to the girl and crying and begging forgiveness, while being a nominally woke-enough dude on the surface, was the kind of parental narcissism that my bias would expect to be present in raising a broken kid like that.

That to me is the genius of the story if it's fiction. There's so much validation seeking from the father it seeds a cause for the son.

edit: as for motivation for a fake story, here's a silly one but I couldn't help but wonder if it was all an experiment for him to write N-words and get liberals to support him.

Wait, what? Since where did that guy use the N word? His future son-in-law is black.

The guy who wrote the post has two instances in his story. Of course attributed to his son but his son isn't writing the reddit post.

After analyzing the post much more closely I'm pretty sure it's fake.

Yeah the boy's father doesn't seem like much of a man. Anyone who says "We chalked it up to teenaged mood swings." when their kid is going thru problems isn't much of a parent.

Not taking blame off the son but the father is acting like a little victim, you're the parent, you messed up somewhere.
