If you are doing no crime then CCTV provides protection without ANY loss of privacy...as there are tight regulations surrounding the use of CCTV.

I don't know of anything that the law prevents me from doing that I see any reason for me having a right to do so. Some do and they campaign for changes in law.

As in the previous posts I did make it clear that 'attitude' by police/anybody is bad...but Redwolf contended that stop and search was not fair EVEN if it caught every criminal ACCORDING to his personal constitution...which we all got to follow???

There is an absolute loss of privacy... The government is spying on you. Big brother is watching - the possibility of abuse is so incredibly scary that I don't even want to THINK about it. But I'm not going to argue the merits of video cameras on public streets. If the majority of your people would rather trade their freedoms for absolute peace and security then fine... they deserve what they get.

And yes.. I AM saying that stop and search is nor right even if it caught EVERY criminal. My point all along has been that freedom is far more important than stopping EVERY criminal. In a democracy we keep a tight reign on our police force - the result of this is that crime will happen - it's a fact of life.

There are at least two cops around here that are known by name by most teenagers. Why?

Very simple.. they BEAT teenagers up whenever they get the chance. This isn't just a rumour it happens. Just try and prove it.

One of them has actually finally been removed from the street because even his superiors realized he's a psycho... Why he still has a job at all I don't know.

Remind you of the views of someone?

Article from 'the onion' (www.onion.com) the most reliable source of satirical jokes -perhaps.

America A Fascist Police State, Stoned Underage Drunk Driver Charges
SMYRNA, GA-- Outraged by the brutal suppression of civil liberties that has defined the
nation's history, stoned 15-year-old Corey Shifflett denounced America as a "total
fascist police state" following his drunk-driving arrest Saturday. "This whole
country is, like, totally Hitlered-out," Shifflett told friend Glen Withers, who
posted his $500 bail. "These cops, they're just looking for any excuse to pull us
over and hassle us, just to feel like ****in' Superman." Shifflett then knocked over
an orange highway cone and vowed to move to Amsterdam.

Are you attacking me personally once again?

For the record I do NOT and have never smoked pot... However I DO support the legalization of soft drugs due to the fact that prohibition accomplishes very little and serves only to add to the problem. THAT is another story however.

And I'm 21 and not 15 thank you. I've NEVER once been in trouble with the law so please stop trying to pass me off as some kind of petty criminal.

You can make fun of me all you want. I take comfort in the fact that I'm more intelligent than you and can look at the "big picture" of this issue. I'm able to comprehend such things as civil liberties and democracy. I'm also able to look at and think intelligently about the ramification of a government violating those civil liberties - This is far above your simplified "crime's bad - stop it all" mentality.

Is our goverment a dictatorship as it stands? No - of course not. However societies slip into that state one step at a time and it's up to all of us to be ever vigilant against the eroding of our freedoms.

I really don't care if you like me. I don't like your beliefs and am personally scared of your attitudes. They will one day (maybe not in my lifetime) be the downfall of this democracy. after all.. If the government says it's good for us then it MUST be true.

Whoa, where do you get your information? While I personally would never burn the American flag, I think it is great that Americans still have the ability to legally burn the flag.

We can burn our flag, it's called freedom of speach. We also have privacy protection laws in the USA, something that is lacking in England.

I think you'r WAY off here. How does my view of the police/law resemble that of the guy in the article?

I think you either misunderstand me our you just can't grasp the concepts that I am arguing about. I have a valid opinion/belief based on something very important to me - freedom.

My view is and has always been that the rights of the individual is more important than that of a society's right to stop crime. When you protect the consitutional rights of the individual you ultimately protect the freedom and liberties of an entire people. When you allow the government to trample our constitution in order to catch criminals... the government ends up becoming the thugs and murderers. History is all to clear on this point.

And what exactly is my view of "the law?". I respect the law and have never denied this. HOWEVER I simply don't believe that the cops have the right to break the law in order to enforce it.

As for dope smoking? I don't "approve" of it... I simply don't dissaprove. How does somebody smoking a little weed hurt me? it doesn't. Not in any way - no more than cigarettes or alcohol does anyway. BUT i forgot.. THEY say it's wrong and if the government says it's wrong then it must be VERY BAD.. right? Prohibition has NEVER worked!

I'm sorry you're to blind to see the validity of the constitution. I hope your crime free utopia works out well for you.

dudes...it is illegal for you to burn your flag...it is treason in your country.

Hey, there ain't even an opt-out of your Union.

As for privacy...CIA/FBI I'm sure they keep with that...oh yeah. Cameras in public places is no worse than a camera at a football game recording your actions. It means simply that you are protected in urban areas or at least the criminal can be recognised and caught.

Uk is not a police state...the independance here is up and till you break the law and our laws have been built by reform over the last 1000 years. Where is the problem in that...?

A foot ball game isn't as bad because it a place where i don't have to be. It's like security cameras in a mall.

Streets are different because it is SOCIETY. In order to live my life I would have to be under scrutiny by the government/police force.

THAT is my problem.

There isn't really much point in us debating this any longer. Our ideas of freedom seem to vary and you don't really seem to car about the rights enshrined in our constitution. Rights that I would die to protect.

well don't commit suicide on my account.

I dont like cops around my house because they are mean.
