Why is flag waiving considered bad?

i wasn t being sarcastic; which is rare for me.

Uhm...you missed what I meant. I didnt say you were sarcastic...but rather that it appeared to me that rmsharpe was being sarcastic of those that truly see the USA in that light.

In Germany it got out of fashion after this little skirmish 60 years ago.
Now it's coming back now we host this sports event, and some people are worried about it.
I don't care, but I'd be worried if this goes on after the championship is over.
We had some bad experiences with patriotism.

America is a racist, bigoted, evil country that should be wiped off the face of the earth.

I think you're overstating it somewhat.
I would say that it's just temporarily swung too far to the right.
This will correct itself in time.

Why does everyone always consider a "flag waiver" a blindly patriotic dumbass who probably voted for -ghasp- George W. Bush? What is wrong with showing respect and love for your country?

Presumably some people who feel love and respect for their country find it easier if they don't have to associate themselves with blindly patriotic dumbasses who probably voted for -ghasp- George W. Bush

So 50%+ of the americans that voted were "blind patriotic dumbasses"? You sound like John Kerrys elitist wife when she said only a moron would vote for Bush.

Keep saying that stuff.....it drives moderates to the right in droves.:D

John Kerry's wife said that? I hate people like that! I was watching a preview on TV about the movie Flight 93 I think and an actress came on camera and said "It's a good movie and anyone that doesn't watch it wants to forget 9/11 or already has." I was like "You pretentious, arrogant *****!!!" I absolutely despise people that say it's either their way or you're an idiot.

I happen to love my country, unlike many who reside here and embrace their self-loathing.

Except for all the parts you hate about it.

I for one, do not think this country tramples on our rights and freedoms.

I don't think it tramples our rights either, just picks at them, piece by piece, all in the name of security.

As a soldier I gladly say I work daily to protect those rights and freedoms.

and cheer as they are taken away in the name of security.

There will simply always be an element that hates what is good.

That will loathe the very government that works to protect them.

works to protect, but instead grinds away at the bill of rights and continues to remain as ineffective as ever.

That is just beyond sad in my opinion.

 :( It's just terrible. Why don't they all just go out, and wave some flags?

I'm curious as to what amendment of the bill of rights the government has grinded away in the past few years.

Oh, and when has government not been ineffective? I thought that was their job?

this may be quite shocking; but no!

I happen to be proud of the ideals this nation was founded upon, but I'm not proud of the (current) administration, and people who blindly accept the administration as divinely ordained... are rather misguided in my view, to say the least.

Vesting faith in a bureaucratic hell hole known as government is never beyond sad.

Would you prefer anarchy? Because as far as I'm concerned, faulty as it may be, government is one of the few and thin boundaries separating civilization and barbarism.

Could you possibly be talking about them gathering phone numbers and numbers you have called? My god, those tyrants! They know my phone number now! And they know I've been wasting money on a phone-sex service! Those bastards!!!

Crap, there went my whole view of the government.

I posted this in another thread but look at Somalia for a good look at what the US would be like if anarchists had their way.

Somalia is civil war, not anarchy.

For anarchy, post-Saddam Iraq for the first few days would be a better comparison (not now, you party hacks. The first few days after the fall).

No, there really is no government or anything in Somalia so it would be pretty much an Anarchists dream. Except having to worry about rival gangs or religious groups killing them. Iraq right after Saddam's regime toppled over is a pretty good picture of Anarchy to.

Very much incorrect. The problem is that there are several governments in Somalia, vying for controll, not that there is none. Somaliland, Puntland, the Islamic Courts Union...

A civil war is not an anarchy by any means. It's like saying the US Civil War was an anarchy.

I don't think you're getting my point. There are really no laws over there, except now Mogadishu might go under Islamic rule (whatever the name is). Other then that people really do whatever they want, just like in an Anarchy.

That would be the fourth amendment, which has effectively been ground to nothing in the past 40 years.

"free speech zones" grind away the first

the "assault weapons bans" ground away at the second during the clinton years

And every year, the tenth is watered down as the federal government assumes more and more power.

The thing is, once it is ground away, it is never given back.

It means nothing to you now, USARMY18, because all you have known is an administration and government with which you agreed. Just wait until the tables turn.
