Why is my game so slow?

Why? I've got a new (well, this summer new) iBook 800mhz, 384mb of memory, and the newest jag update...but civ3 runs so SLOW! its incredible...its taking well over a min. per turn...i'm playing on a huge world, with 15 players...but that shouldnt slow my comp down that much, the only thing that slows this beast down is ghost recon on the highest graphic setting and playing Riot in Belgrade on Elite...ive already turned off quartz for civ3...gah!

Huge maps w/ large number of civs are just going to be slow. Its the nature of the beast, so to speak. Try turning off unit animations. You can also hold down the shift key or space bar to speed through the AI turns.

hmm, that sucks...guess i should start playing on smaller maps...darn. thanks for the snappy help...better than Fed Ex

Im having the same problem. Extremely slow between turns. Minutes! Space bar doesn't help much, if at all.
