Why am I so left wing? Well like many my age, I never fell for any of that religious junk, and it so happens to be the right-wing that usually tried to jam it down my throat.
What I meant was, left wingers, by virtue of their beliefs, care about people who are less fortunate than themselves. Thus, they have a greater sense of empathy, that is, they can put themselves in other people's shoes better. This is what I meant by open-minded, and it will always lead to a more moderate viewpoint.SeleucusNicator said:I do not find the far-left to be any more open-minded than the far-right. Both subscribe to fundamental beliefs and assumptions that hinder their thought.
The true open-minded ones are the moderates of the world.
May not even be Swedish. It's just quoted a lot.Mise said:I thought that was a famous saying. I was trying to remember it properly for ages now but I couldn't! Thanks for bringing it up![]()

i knew a couple of kids who quit wanting to be liberals after they started to pay taxes. I was mad for maybe, oh, 10 min. then I remembered what my check went to...
my dad is bipolar and disabled. He cant work. Our taxes help pay for his disabilty
Me and My mom work for Schools. Our salaries, from taxes
My school's supplies and computers. taxes
I think part of my soccer league is paid for by local taxes
Since I profit so much from state programs, I dont see a problem in paying back a little of what I work to earn back.
If other Youth knew exactly how much they profit from state programs, they wouldnt care too much about taxing either
I disagree. I only know two people who voted Conservative in the last election a few weeks ago. There is only one Conservative society in my university, and it's numbers are small compared with the liberal and left wing societies. The liberal and left wing societies do more stuff too. But I guess that's the point; youths are passionate, and its easier to be passionate about inequality and injustice than Margret Thatcher.Duddha said:I really don't think youth has a serious effect on people's political beliefs. Parents, geographic location, education, generation(which one), current events, religious beliefs, and personal interests, all play a much more important role.

"Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains."Verbose said:"He, who is not a socialist in his youth, has no heart. If he persists in this as he grows up, he has no brain."
Modern Swedish saying.
(Crap translation by me.)
They did give him the Nobel Prize for litterature.Sanaz said:I guess Churchill is a modern Swede.![]()
