Wild Mana for FF

That brings back that I want to disable that balancing of starting locations. I don't want equality when I play, it's boring. I want harsh starts! Or great ones! Yahoo!

Hum, whatever. I started a game with Wild Mana too. Unfortunately, I had Flavour Start enabled, so there was plenty of mana nearby. I was playing the Malakim (first time I play them with Malakim+) and got a Metamagic mana nearby! I was quite happy. However, I didn't see any wild nodes, don't know why.

Music to my ears. Balanced starts my arse. All came about because people couldn't adapt to the lack of resources near them needed for their second tier units...boo hoo suck it up and conquer some people...as if that never happened during Humankind's history.

It's hard to conquer someone who has bigger cities and better production than you.
If I get a city side with lots of flood plains, and plains hills,, I'm going to out-produce nigh anyone in the world to start with. And if you want to warrior rush me, you'll lose, because I can spam them faster.

Besides, warfare with hordes of base warriors is boring. Balanced starts give all nations a better chance of living until they can leverage unique stuff, and THEN go conquer people with vampires/horsemen/champions/rangers/etc

I am not always going to be facing someone in your position though, besides why would I go after a stronger foe instead of a weaker one if I have bad resources? Also those floodplains will limit your health, and city size hence your production maybe okay.

Also warrior wars aren't that boring if you are winning.

EDIT: Valkrionn, the bnormalize tag in xml means that resource may show up in initial BFC? Or is it part of the resource balancing?!?

I agree! But sometimes, especially when trying out a new game type or civ, I don't want a crappy start. What is really annoying is building a massive custom game, defining teams and all the civs, only to have to redo it because I've only got 2 desert tiles and fishless ocean in my fat cross. Balancing should be toggled ... but better yet, we need to bring back the "regenerate map" button!

Good question. It doesn't look like Flavour cares about bNormalize so it must be for general resource placing.

bNormalize is just for general resource planting, yes... I had forgotten about Flavourmod's balancing when I mentioned it. :lol:

Hey! I was not criticizing, only asking. Looking at my posts you'll see I am more an idea guy than modder (about 99.9%)

There was a regenerate map button?! That would be amazing!

I think I agree with the ability to toggle balanced starts. It could be frustrating if it were simply removed, but could be very interesting as an option. Granted, that's kind of beyond the scope of this particular modx.

Oh, and Valk have you given any consideration to the idea of allowing mana nodes to cast spells/grant promotions to units, or in some similar fashion affect more than just the terrain? Just curious.

There's a regenerate map button for vanilla BTS, but FfH removed it. As far as I can tell, it's because all Unique Features are revealed for the Elohim... think it interferes with that.

Yes, I'm thinking that the ability to gain a spellsphere from a wild mana node would be a good exploration reward.

Haven't messed with this for a day or two as I was trying to get FFPlus updated, but I'll start on it again tomorrow afternoon.

Ahh, I was unclear in asking my question before. What I meant is have you decided if the other nodes (such as spirit, law, etc.) will have that %chance to have an effect on units around them (ex: like units have a 2% chance per turn of gaining the loyalty promotion when in a 1 tile radius of law mana) or will you be sticking to just terrain changes?
I'm just curious, and feeling nosy :lol:

There's a lot of stuff that happens on map generation that probably broke while regenerating. Now that FfH is in feature lock, perhaps they can put it back in. Won't really help FF though since it's still evolving.

Regenerating always seemed to take a lot longer than simply restarting the game. I'm not sure why that is but there might be something in the DLL that doesn't make it as simple as just starting a new game with all the same options. I can imagine if you regenerate a Huge Erebus End of Winter map, you might as well go down to the corner for a couple pints.

WOO! Got my DLL to compile. Apparently something had gone wrong while I was installing the programs I needed... Reinstalling it seems to have fixed my problem. :goodjob:

Edit: YES!! Works. It's only two lines in the DLL, but it took forever to figure out why the hell it wouldn't compile haha. The gameoption is under the Double Bonuses/ Double Events options.

Alright, I need terrains/features for mana to spawn on. Any ideas? All I've really got is:

Sun - Desert
Ice - Snow/Tundra
Nature - Forest

Edit: Any that noone can think of a fitting terrain for will still have a chance to spawn, it will just be a lower chance and ran throughout the world after the others have gone.

Growth = Jungle
Entropy = Desert
Water = Marsh

There aren't enough terrain types, honestly. :p Do they need terrain prefs? I mean, Sun desertifies anyways, Nature makes forests grow, Water moistens..... Seems they'll all be in appropriate places after not too long. :p

I actually thought about water and marsh after my last post. :lol:

True, they don't really need the preferences, it's basically going to be an extra chance of around 5% for that mana... Should see slightly more of them in their respective terrains.

Testing a preliminary version right now. It spawns mana based on mapsize, ranging from 8 for a duel to 21 for a huge map, and then has a 50% chance to convert each mana bonus to a random mana.

Still to be added:

Mana affecting terrains.
Defenders. Making them held, spawned on game start, only one 1/3 of the improved manas.

Once that's in, I'll release a test version..... So either tonight or tomorrow.

Earth - Hills
Creation - Forest or Grassland
Fire - Desert
Air - Plains?
Death - Tundra or Desert
Life - Floodplains or Grassland?
Shadow - Forests
