Wildlife

Could you also include bears (spawning near hills & rivers) and lions (spawning near mountains & plains) since these two animals are on the top of the food chain, same as wolves.

Civ4 3d graphics can't be used directly in Civ5. It needs to be converted, which is quite a complicated process that only a few individuals have mastered. If anyone converts any animal graphics besides the wolf from Civ4 to Civ5, I'll be very happy :)

Perhaps, then, we should post a request in the main forum regarding conversion. I have no artistic skill at all and can therefore not do such a thing....

^^ I'll make one :)

Edit:- See pic, like not like?

I would LOVE to see this mod fleshed out, with a real kinda Civ 4 feel with both "friendly" and hostile animals. Attack a roaming elephant with tough defence (might stomp your warrior to pieces), for some xp. Or leave it alone to run into barbarians or other civs.

Wolves wouldn't attack a large group of humans but to make this more realistic the wolves should stop spawning quite early. They might have been a threat in early ages but since they got killed regularly they became less and less common.

We've got the wolf and lion from Civ4, but need the panther and bear.

What else? You want animals from different areas and climates... Wild boar, tigers, rhinos, hippos, jaguars, sharks, great apes would all be cool...

I thought wild versions of the animal resources would be interesting. Boars, bulls, wild elephants, (killer) whales, and... I dunno, angry bucks? Rabid beavers? :)
EDIT: Mutated seabass with frickin' laser beams?

This mod i alive! Hooray!!!

And for the climate based system, you could have them spawn only in certain terrains. They would serve a more wild, dangerous role than the barbarians i.e barbs capture civilians, animals eat them.

Jungle - tiger
Snow - polar bear
Water - sharks
Plains - lions?

I'll update this when i have more ideas

Also, if you want, i could do some icons if i had the time!

jungle: tigers, jaguars, leopards and buffalo
plains: lions, wolves, aurochs, rhinos, elephants, horses
water: sharks, killer whales, crocodiles, hippos
forests: bears, wild boars, aurochs, leopards, wolves, tigers, lions, forest tarpan

IS THAT ALL??? Are you sure there isn't ANYTHING else you can think of? :crazyeye:

I have quite a few of these: panthers and tigers and bears (almost oh my!) are definitely there from Civ IV, and wild boar is coming soon (I am making an Orc Boar Rider). I actually already have the skin for the wild boar in the Goblin Settler unit, but it uses Ox animations which won't work at large scale.

For the rest (whether I have in inventory or not):
Rhino - I have a rhino with custom animations from Atlantica Online (AO); just need to convert it.
Hippo - No
Jaguar - No, but is an easy panther re-skin
Shark - Yes, also from AO
Ape - There was one from FFH; I can probably find it again. Not sure of the animations, tho.
Bull - Yes, but no attack animations
Elephant - Yes, just modify Civ V elephant to be without a rider.
Whales - No
Mutated Seabass with frikkin' laser beams - No, but would you settle for some sharks with friggin' laser beams? The laser beams go pew pew and not QQ - is that ok?

I can haz new icons??? YES, please!!! :D

See my previous post, and I also have a crocodile that I can convert.

I really need to find a decent Bull animation; it would cover many different types of bovine units. Too lazy to build my own....

Oh, and here is a Warg that I just converted. More of a monster than a wild animal, but what the hey?

Spoiler :

Once you have the outline and all the animal names in your next version, send me the list and i'll get cracking.

Éa has a wildlife system if someone wants to pull it out. I might do that myself someday, but no promises.

EaTables/Animals.sql --where animals are added with terrain preferences
EaMain/Animals.lua --the logic for spawning (and also some logic to run and heal)

It's not quite that easy, as a few variables used in Animals.lua are set up or modified in other lua files. It could be done by someone who knows lua though.

The mod's dll is not necessary for the above, but makes things work much better. It adds Animals as a separate "barb faction" (player 62; regular barbs are 63). And it changes their behavior: 1) they don't enter civ borders (unless at peace, which you can set with Lua); 2) they don't pillage plots or trade routes; 3) they don't capture civilians (just kill them); and 4) they don't spawn from encampments (all spawning by Animals.lua). It's not too hard for me to compile this dll separate from other mod changes to dll, if someone is interested (but a dll modder would have to do work to merge it with any other dll mod). With dll change, they are added as separate "civilization" by xml or sql (similar to CIVILIZATION_BARBARIAN).
