Wonder Ideas for C2C

A small note, from my post in the Buildings Review thread:

The Famen Temple, at 200 :hammers:, is far too cheap for where it appears in the tech tree. My suggestion would be quadrupling the cost to 800 :hammers:, which works considering that it can be built at double speed with Gold Wares.

Monaldinio,

Finding useful things here?

Not really! I have never taken anything from C2C ...
I checked what ideas you have assimilated, and if there are some ideas from me...
Should I take ideas from c2c, I will stop modding immediately! :-)
But just to be sure I'll download v31 ... ;-)

Happy Modding...

El Escorial:
- Can build Missionaries without Monastery
- +50% production speed of Missionary
[I THINK this is done]

Does this mean all cities can build missionaries with out monastery or just this city. I can do the latter in XML but the former would require some new stuff as such a function is only on civics at the moment.

The second is already done.

Ellis Island:
- Free Culture (African) in every city
- Free Culture (North American) in every city
- Free Culture (South American) in every city
- Free Culture (Asian) in every city
- Free Culture (Middle Eastern) in every city
- Free Culture (Oceanian) in every city

This will require Python. I need something similar for the Topika Palace.

Bauhaus School:
- +2 culture from all Engineer specialists

This requires new building tags SpecialistCommerceChanges. They don't exist yet.

What about a wonder called The Smithsonian that would put a museum in all of your cities?

This is not my realm but... cool! I like it!

Uhm... I have no idea. I just copy pasted what Vokarya wrote.
What do you think would be more appropiated for it? I think it is not overpowered to give it to all cities.

Well, do what you can now and note this for later. I'm really happy you took over it :goodjob:

@Faustmouse

Could you make a new Wonder folder in your mods? Then try to make this wonder.

Kerala School of Mathematics [Great Wonder]
Art: Here
Req Tech: Calculus
Obsolete Tech: Computer Networks
Req Buildings: University
Req Resources: None
Cost: 2080
Requires City Size: 13

  • +6 :science:
  • +3 :culture:
  • -10 :gold:
  • +2 Great People
  • More Likely to Generate Scientist
  • Can Turn 1 Citizen into Scientist
  • Can Turn 1 Citizen into Engineer
  • Gives Free Mathematics Academy in Every City

Pedia Info: Here

Thanks! :goodjob:

That sounds a bit overpowered to me. A Mathematics Academy can easily give in excess of 15 :science: per city in the Renaissance, so in a good sized empire this could be well over 300 :science: from one wonder. Compare that to the Academy built by a Great Scientist, which in the best science cities I've had only give ~80 :science:.

It is very powerful, but really only in that it saves you from producing the buildings individually (so the same net end result in terms of science). Once you have algebra and calculus the science/maintenance ratio on mathematics academies is extremely good, so you'll likely build them essentially everywhere anyway, which means all the wonder does is save you production. I think it's ok.

May I ask how "Free ... in every city" works? Is it:

- every city you have now; or
- every city you have now, plus any you subsequently build; or
- every city you ever have, found or capture?

Also, what about prereqs? Do you get a free Butchery (from Butchers' Guild) straight away, only after building a Slaughterhouse, or do you miss out unless you already have the Slaughterhouse?

Every city you ever have until the wonder goes obsolete, and it ignores pre-reqs I think.

Thanks that's really good to know.

However, in that case I agree with ls that free Maths Academy in every city is OP. Sure you might want to build it in every city, but it will still take you centuries in most cases, especially because/assuming it (still) requires a city of size 13. Plus it only justifies the maintenance imo when you have an out-of-control gold surplus, which is less than half the time for sure. (Yes I realize the 'free in every city' will give you the extra maintenance to counterbalance the benefit. But that might just mean it gives an OTT benefit that no-one can afford, and so no-one builds the wonder).

I'd build it. And I don't think it's OP. There are a lot buildings that give free building X in every city that are cheaper.
And gold is really not an issue since you are able to found at least 50% of the religions if you focus on them.

However, I'll make it once you made an agreement.

If they give buildings that are this advanced and have as much benefit (and cost for that matter) as Maths Academy, and override a requirement for a city of size 13, then they are OP too. Which ones did you have in mind?

And for me, the cost of the wonder is not a factor (unless maybe it cost more than all the free Academies combined:mischief:).

And gold is really not an issue since you are able to found at least 50% of the religions if you focus on them.

If there is a strategy that makes gold not really an issue, then that needs to be fixed (because to my mind that makes it an exploit). If you can reliably found most of the religions (without being the tech leader at least) then that needs fixing too.

I wanted to help with the XML of C2C, so Hydro gave this wonder to do:

Zheng He's Workshop
Req Tech: Canal Systems
Req Building: Aqueduct
Cost: 1000
Req River City: Yes
Obsolete Tech: Steam Power

Special Abilities
+2 culture
+1 GP points
+25% Research
+25% Production
Can turn 2 Citizens into Scientist.
Can turn 2 Citizens into Engineer.
City More likely to generate Great Engineer.

Hydro:

1. That was the art I was basing the Wonder on
2. I saved the button as DXT1 No Alpha, so that was probably it. I made a new button just in case
3. I can't add my own folder to the SVN

1+2 are fixed
This is my first building/wonder I have ever made for a Civ mod, so I'm pretty pleased with myself.

@Sargon

1. Thanks for removing it.

2. Yeah Buttons should be DXT3 with the template the alpha channel and borders.

3. That's because you don't have permission to do so yet. Do it as if you have permission. I can check it over and add it to the SVN. Then we can get you permission to the SVN and then you can post the 2nd one yourself.

EDIT: In fact if you want I will go set up a folder on the SVN for you so you can see how it should be.

EDIT2: So now your new wonder can be placed in "Modules/Sargon/Wonders"
