Sandris' style has always had an element of cartoonish in it and although I like his style, I don't really care that much about the look of the horses. As long as you make them, I'll use them. :)

imho it's nice to have a variety of horse breeds for units. They vary in size and color as much as people do.

yes and the anglo saxons have utahjazz' horse and the romano britons have smaller horses in same period and teritory!!!

please do not consider this post i just let my feelings go, every should create what he wants!! beacuse they create and they have brought us so much joy!!

Shirokobbure... I compared your horse to the CIV III Horseman here... the Legs are fine.
The Only difference is they could be a couple of pixels shorter and only the top of the Legs could be slightly larger. I really like your horse over all :goodjob:

It needn't be. Firaxis' units are out of scale compared to each other, and why should all horses be the same? I don't think it'll show in-game, at all.

For proportions, it would be a matter of the proportion of horse to rider, isn't it? Provided the rider is at the same scale as other human units. For the horse's proportions, size and shape and color vary by breed; generally, you can't do much better than the North American Horse Encyclopedia for a guide to breed colors and uses (in NA, anyway). And, yes, they do describe different sizes (and different gaits!) depending on breed. Keep in mind that, like our modern vehicles, different breeds (types) were used for different purposes, from the wagon-pulling Clydesdales and Bretons to the agile Quarter Horses, to the hearty Mustangs and Native-bred Pintos to the gentle Hobby Horses. So generally, what your horse should look like depends what you want your horse to do. You wouldn't use a Spanish-Norman warhorse to pull a plow or carriage; nor would you give a Pony Express rider a Hobby Horse to ride. So a little research eliminates the need to guess at all.

In the image you posted, Shiro, it looks like you've made an American Indian on a Spanish Mustang. That's historically exactly right. Looks great!

Please don't get me wrong... I am not saying I believe the Horse should be changed... I am merely saying that because Shiro said he might make the legs wider, I wanted to address that.

Truth is, it is one of the best Horses, if not The Best... but since people seem to want to stay in keeping with the Original Unit Sizes, I wanted to point out the only slight differences IF any changes are made.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, and for the information.
When making units I try to balance historical accuracy with uniformity.

Balthasar, if I were to make 3 or 4 different horse variations, what would they be, if they were all for warfare.
I already plan to make a smaller pony-stye unit for Japan, Mongolia and ancient China/Korea.

Five colors are a must?
It will be hard with civ color.

On second thought, that probably wouldn't show up at Civ-scale anyway. Go with whatever is doable. ;)

Did you ever finish Xerxes and Monty?
