World 2008 development thread.

Yep, works for me. Using Spark on a public computer would only be a problem if it has internet constraints.

Oh, by the way, I've done all the flags except:

Independent African States
Independent Nations

I used the Swiss flag for the neutrals.

thats a good i dea using swiss for neutral, one question will neutrals be playable? if they are they shud start with massive amounts of money to represent the Swiss bankers

At any rate, here are my ideas for Civics, starting with labor:

I think we should add one yet utopian civic per category to make research and the late game more interesting. Is it a problem to have 6 civics instead of 5?
My idea for an additional labor civic:

Basic Income Guarantee / Negative Income Tax (should have a shorter name...)
-10% :hammers:, +50% :culture:, +3 :) in each city, high upkeep

Oh, by the way, I've done all the flags except:

Independent African States

I think it should just be made up of the pan-african colours: green/yellow/red

Like the flag of the Republic of Congo?

Maybe they should be classed as Barbarians. It would make more sense, really.

Like the flag of the Republic of Congo?

I'd tend to a more classic combination. The diagonal stripes point too much at the Republic of Congo.
My suggestion is the classic flag of Ethiopia, the first independent state in Africa. This flag is no more used that way in Ethiopia but it is the actual source of the Pan-African colours.

My idea for an additional labor civic:

No, that is not a problem. It will make it so Civics don't fit in the box, but there are ways to enlarge the box and make the text smaller.

Anyway, economics:

Deregulated
No Upkeep, +1:yuck:, +3:commerce:, +1 Trade Route Per City, +50% Corporate Maintanence Cost.
Communist
Requires Communism*, Medium Upkeep, No Corporations, +10% Production, Pay to Hurry Production
Corporatist
Requires Corporation*, Plastics*, Mass Media*, Medium Upkeep, +1 Trade Route Per City, Unlimited Specialists, -50% Corporate Maintanence Cost, +1:) from Corporate branch.
Military Industrial
High Upkeep, -10% :hammers:, -5:commerce:, +50% Military Unit Production, 20 Free Units. (This could be what is used for North Korea.)
Grassroots
Requires Ecology*, Superconductors*, Fusion*, High Upkeep, No Foreign Corporations, +:) Per Forest, Jungle Preserve, +50% Corporate Upkeep, +1:hammers: From Windmills, +25% :gp: Birth.

Some notes on definition, from top to bottom--Deregulated is considered to be the default civic for developing nations. As its name implies, there are no regulations, but also not too much economic production in the private sector. It can be a profitable civic unless your cities get bought up by foreign investment; at that point you can switch. Communist refers to the Sino-Soviet state-socialist model, not theoretical Anarchistic Marxism. This is a good civic for dragging a backwater agrarian civilization into industrialism by the balls, although it isn't good for making money in the long run. Corporatist is based on the modern economics of most Asian Industrial powers like China and Japan. The state here does not own production as in a communist state; rather, it encourages private enterprise as long as it's in a way that benefits the state, attracting investment and channeling funds into infrastructure. Military-Industrial economies are those where all of a country's infrastructure is utilized primarily for the production of military units. Car factories only make tanks, planes, etc, civillian-consumption of tin, gas, and even food, may be rationed, and ultimately, most money spent in the country doesn't end-up there. Grassroots economies are defined as being a combination of environmentalism, and an attempt to recreate the classical model of private enterprise. The government does not own production; rather, it proactively safeguards the rights of its citizens to own businesses, and gives them preferential treatment over multinational investment.

Here is the base map. If you want to do cities here you go.
dvs420: What do you want me to start on now? Civ and unit editing? Units might be a bit more annoying becasue that involves working with formation infos, which is the reason my Byzantium mod is on hold.

nvm, i dont know if this will work but i opened it in custom scenario, it starts in 4000bc i think you can change that right? im going to proceed anyway. Im going to try to finish North America tonight.

if you just open up a different game, and then enter worldbuilder, go to the load file button, and load the map once in worldbuilder it shouldent end it on you.

What civ do you try to play as that says 'you have been defeated'? that means that that civ has no units. Also, cosmetic stuff like year are ver easy to change.

ok sounds good, how do you post screenshots? i would like to post a few and ask what you think about city placement

Anyway, economics:

Here's a suggestion for a 6th economic civic for the late game:

Knowledge Economy
Requires Personal Fabricator, Medium Upkeep, +1 :hammers: for every 4 :science: in the cities

Government Civics:

Caesardom
Medium Upkeep, +25%:commerce:, +25%:hammers:, +25%:culture: in capital city, Workers +25% Faster.
Totalitarian
High Upkeep, No spread of non-state ideaology, -25%:culture: in all cities, +25% Military Unit production, +3:) from Broadcast tower.
Congressional
High Upkeep, -50% Corporate Maintanence, +50%:commerce: in capital city.
Parliamentary
Medium Upkeep, +25%:gp: Birth, +1:science: per-specialist,
Technocracy
Requires Some new tech, High Upkeep, +100%:gp: Birth, +3:) from University.

And here additionally:

Direct Democracy
Medium Upkeep, No turn of anarchy, +50% :commerce: in capital, +3:) in every city, +1:mad: per broadcasting tower, +1 gold support per military unit

DVS: Are there any things you would like me to start working on?

btw what is my deadline for completing this map?

I for one am not setting a deadline, as I cannot work on this until my Summer vacation begins, but try to at least get all the major cities down.

I can do some stuff besides XML, although I might not have as much time as I am working on a mod about the Arab-Israeli war after they declarded themselves a state. Inspired by the book Exodus by Leon Uris.
