World Cup 2006 - Groups

I wouldn't worry too much as Germany or Spain were chosen as the weakest pot 1 team with no mention of Mexico or inconsistant England. It is quite hard to pick the weakest teams from each pot as generally the teams in pot three are all pretty strong whilst pots 2 and 3 have a couple of candidates for the worst teams.

Don't underestimate us, or how many teams do YOU have in the Champions League? (;))

as much as you do I guess.. none! :p

Anyway.. I'd like Brazil from the top group. Anyone who knows my history can guess why hehe.. and I'd really like to be able to rub it in the face of everyone over here and over there when we win. :D

wrong, do you know who played against Ajax (and lost both times due to bad luck)? Yes, a Swiss Team. 2002, my team, basel only didn't reach the quarter finals due to the goals, not point (agains Juve and ManU). And I bet with you, that next season, a Swiss team will be again in the CL (due to the team coefficient).

Think before you post the next time, thanks.

Yeah, but at the moment there's no swiss team in the CL. There used to be one though. :p

The CL is the tournament consisting of 32 teams that play in the group-phase. One of those was the FC Thun, so there was a Swiss Team in the CL this season. Of course, at the moment, in the final-phase, there is no Swiss team left, but that wasn't the question.

For a land of the size of Switzerland, the success we had in football is quite astonishing and not something to smile upon.

Point.

Actually, I think that was precisely willem's point. It was made in a light and jocously manner, but you seemed to have missed that. ;)

You honestly think you'd win? :p

Myself, I get irritated every WC with the sports comentators that get concerened with the group we'll be in. If we're supposed to win, we shouldn't be fearing anyone.
Give me Holland and the Czech Republic! (yeah I know it won't happen)

Sure, FC Thun was in the Championsleague.. but they got kicked out remember? So Switzerland doesn't have any team in the Championsleague either. You did say "how many teams do you have in the CL"... Switzerland had one, but has none.. as MCdread pointed out (and was my point in the previous post)...

Of course this is all a slight.. misunderstanding.

Claro que não.. but let me dream will you? It would be soooo sweet... finally have something to shut those big mouths when it comes to football.. although we have only lost once against Brazil on a World Cup I think (not counting losing on penalties).

According to FIFA's criteria, yes Mexico have earned a seed. Do they deserve it over the USA? No.

Actually, none of the two.

My last seed would be either the Netherlands (my fav) or Portugal.

And if it is any colsolation, the US almost made it to be seeded over the three times world champions and highly traditional Italy.

Anyway, "im watching the draw right now, and have just one thing to say:

DO YOUR WORST, FIFA!!!! :p

Regards :).

BTW, here are the groups I'd want:

Death Group:

Argentina, Netherlands, Portugal and (Servia & Montenegro or Ivory Cost)

Piece of cake:

Brazil, (Japan or South Korea), Saudi Arabia and Trinidad & Tobago.

That way, we would only really have four real games to win the cup...

regards :).

Neither of those groups can happen because Portugal and Netherlands are in the same pot and there would have to be at least one European team in the Brazilian group.

Argentina - Holland and England - Sweden again.

Italy - Czech Republic, Australia against Brazil will probably be interesting as well.

Switzerland - France again.

And we have our group of death as: Holland, Argentina, Ivory Coast and Serbia and Montenegro.

GROUP A
Germany
Costa Rica
Poland
Ecuador

GROUP B
England
Paraguay
Trinidad & Tobago
Sweden

GROUP C
Argentina
Ivory Coast
Serbia & Montenegro
Holland

GROUP D
Mexico
Iran
Angola
Portugal

GROUP E
Italy
Ghana
USA
Czech Republic

GROUP F
Brazil
Croatia
Australia
Japan

GROUP G
France
Switzerland
South Korea
Togo

GROUP H
Spain
Ukraine
Tunisia
Saudi Arabia

To Clarify Dell's post.

GROUP A
Germany
Costa Rica
Poland
Ecuador

Germany to coast though whilst Poland will have to battle against Ecuador.

GROUP B
England
Paraguay
Trinidad & Tobago
Sweden

Both European nations should qualify with another draw between the two but Paraguay won't be easy.

GROUP C
Argentina
Ivory Coast
Serbia & Montenegro
Holland

Hardest group in the competition.

GROUP D
Mexico
Iran
Angola
Portugal

Portugal and Mexico should go through but Portugal could slip up again.

GROUP E
Italy
Ghana
USA
Czech Republic

Czech Republic or the US for second place. Who can meet their reputations?

GROUP F
Brazil
Croatia
Australia
Japan

Big battle for second place that could go to either of the three teams that aren't Brazil.

GROUP G
France
Switzerland
South Korea
Togo

France and Switzerland should qualify from the same group again.

GROUP H
Spain
Ukraine
Tunisia
Saudi Arabia

Spain and the Ukraine probably unless one of them slips up against Tunisia and that would probably be Spain.

edit: I thought I would add some comments to my list.

Well, officially, Group C is the death group. Good luck to all in it, they are going to need it.

Brazil's group is a good one, but things tend to Brazil qualifying and Croatia be a favourite for the other spot, with Australia as a runner's up.

Seens to me that Spain got the best deal.

regards :).
