World Map 360x305

@ Konta: I usually play with other starting positions, but I wanted to offer the game with "historical" starting positions. As long as the CIV 3 Team doesn't add a polynesian or Aborigine civ, I won't be able to add one in Australia, as for SA it is the same..., but will get better in a coupple of days with the release of conquest...

Very nice map. The most geographically accurate map out there so far. Two notes though:

1) You should add some lakes in Finland and Sweden. Currently there is only one in Sweden and none in Finland. IRL there are huge lake areas in Finland and around Stockholm. Only a minor issue though.

2) The amount of resources seems very high. Are you sure that doesn't cripple trade? It seems that there would be more than enough for every civ.

EDIT: And btw, Finland should have a lot less tundra, to be replaced with grassland w/ pineforests. :)

hey aeldrik,

first of all i must say that your map rules man. its huge, more or less realistic and accurate. guess there're lotsa work and patience involved too!

what i wanted to suggess or rather ask you is to give the proper names for the barbarian camps (like Apache indians in America f.e.) and maybe also to make the resources proportions more realistic. for example, how come that in whole Russia there're less resources than in Europe? a lot of oil in arabia & little in Russia (2nd largest expoter in the world)?

those are a few suggestions, even small details if you want. but i think they'd improve the gameplay a lot!!

for the rest i think this is the best map i've seen so far. great job man!

@Exel and RussianRocket :
1) thx for the comments, I added some lakes in Scandinacia, but I still tried to leave enough land for cities. About Finland, I looked on the map, and there aren't any big cities on the areas I made as tundra, making them Grassland wouldn't be realistic, since there would be too productive, I however slightly increased the grassland areas.
2) both of you asked about the ressources, first: Russland is a lot bigger then Europe, still is has lot less population, this is what I tried to reflect putting so many ressources in Europe, allowing very large cities. I added oil in Russia, removed from Arabia...
The high number of each ressource is because of the high number of CIVs available, each player should correct them to fit the number of players he wants for his games.
3) I'll try making the barbarian villages once in a while, since this really takes a lot of time....

A comment to all players, the ressource on the map are set for a lot of CIVs, everyone with enough gameplay experience should reset the resource according to the number of CIV and the locations he wants to play...

thx again for the help

PS: I will only upload the updated Conquest Map, if someone wants an updated PTW map, please PM me

Your Conquests map appears to be the same as your WW2 US-Europe map, perhaps you zipped up the wrong file? If not, could you upload the Conquests version again?

Edit- Thanks a bunch! That's an excellent world map!

1.It would be great if you could update PTW map as well cause I think that a lot of people still play PTW version of the game (like me for instance).

2.Personally I like to play with the max number of CIVs which makes, i think, the game very enjoyable. Therefore a large number of resources add a positive aspect to the game. That's why i asked you to divide it more realisticly or at least more equally.

Anyway thanks for working on your map further --> it's a superb map man!

Thanks for the update! One minor thing you could consider still changing in the map is to make the Kola peninsula slightly shorter and fatter. :)

Btw, are you planning to make a smaller version (XL instead of XXL :D ) of the map in the future?

Good looking map. It's not easy to capture the world and please everyone, since everyone is a critic :)

Anyway, iceland does not look like iceland.
The falklands should not be connected to the main land.

And what's with all the volcanos in north/alaska & south america
do we really have so many volcanos in the real world?

:)

Martin444 to the volcanoes, there are even a lot more especially in the areas you named, most of them just haven't been active in the past hundreds of years...
I'll check/correct Iceland and falklands
Exel: I'll check Kola, no XL version planned for now, I first want to make a few scenarions, but maybe later, even though with 220x220. Marla's map is quite good
RussianRocket: I'll upload the PTW version in the next days. I also love lots of civ... just this 512 citiy limit....

to all, thx for the feedback

I do however like your map alot :)
I have been planning a real world (modern) mod for a while now. Since C3C finally came out I shall start my project.
I probably will use your map :)

I don't suppose there is an easy way to strip all resources in one go? I will use resources but not as plenty as in this map.

To many resources tends to make it.. unstrategic :)

I agree on that ressource point, to change them, you have the editor option to redistribute the ressources, that already reduces the amount of ressources a lot, the rest will have to be done manually, unless anyone knows how to do it better, I would also love to know....

That's what I usualy do. hmmmm, maybe I can remove all allowable resources on the actual terrain types and then generate new ones.. and since none can be place, they all get deleted. then just readjust what terrain accept what resources. sounds like a plan! :)

too bad we are stuck with the 512 city limits however. I guess I have to work around that one.. still i'm glad you did include the new terrain type with C3C! :)

It certainly did! took but 10 seconds to get rid of em all :) heh

Would you know if C3C can handle resources in water?
eg: an Oil field in water but still in city limits.. hmm going to have to play with that :)

there has been some discussion on that, you can't build road on water, so no way to use the ressources, even though they can be placed on water....
PS: thx for falkland, I had actually completely forgotten it

there has to be a way, there is a "allow colony" flag you can set on water tiles.. simply need to figure out how to connect it to the main land.. i figure a ship can atleast build the colony in form of a oil rig.. wonder if the colony can be given harbor flag or something :P

Anyway, once again thanks for the map! Now i'm going to have some fun :)

Actually it worked!

I put an oil resource on a coast tile and then plopped a colony ontop of it, loaded up the game and viola I had an oil resource available to me from water!

(I built a road from the city to the close land based tile right next to the oil colony in the water and it all connected just fine, only problem it looks like there is a road in the water.. however land units can not walk on the road on the coast tile and my experiment destroyers could navigate through the colony just fine.

okee.. sweet. the war over oil in water can begin! :)

sound great, I think I will try it, only problem is, how do you place the colonies, is there a way to do it in a normal game, and what happens when the ressources falls into the borders of the civ and the colony disappears?

Resources on water are my wet dream... ;) I hope a way to implement them can be found. I shall do some testing myself.

About the resources, I haven't checked the map resources throroughly yet, so how accurately are they placed? On the first glance they seemed quite logical. One thing about the other world maps out there (including Marla's) that I haven't liked is their inaccuracy in resource placement (uranium in Sweden, oil in Ireland, etc.).

How well is the map performing on your computers btw (and what kind of computers do you have :p )? For some reason at least the Conquests version of the map runs very slow on my machine: it loads 2 mins inbetween turns, starting from the very first one, even without any rival civs. It might be that my 512 DDR RAM is not adequate... one reason why I'd like a smaller version of the map. :D
