World of Tanks Beta

I haven't played this in weeks, but I'm thinking about booting it up again. Has there been any major changes in the last 6 weeks?

not really.

Were you still playing when they added the last couple of maps and new vehicles? They added 7 or so across the 3 sides.

Russians:
T-54 med tank
Object 212 arty
Object 704 Tank Destroyer

Germans:
Gw Panther arty
Gw Tiger arty
Panzer II med tank

Americans.
Pershing.

The two new maps were El Halluf another desert map with two steep sides and a big valley in between flags, and Ruinberg, a city map kind of like Ensk, but a little more open area on the East side of the map and fewer places to squeeze in between buildings on the West.

They also nerfed the living hell out of artillery. They basically cut accuracy and splash damage by 20% across the board, so these days arty is less of a factor and having a good game as arty has a lot to do with luck as opposed to skill.

GW Panther knocked out KV-3 and half killed a Tiger I in front of it with splash damage...

so they're still absolutely ridiculous.

In my IS-3, some arty splashed in my face (but didn't hit my tank) and STILL knocked off 1,000 health.

but seriously, I have played this game so much, I think I have drained all the fun to be had of of it. Why should I pay to play it all over again having explored everything it has to offer even before release?

Its called being "addicted" :D

When I stopped playing about three - four months ago I had seriously thought that the closed beta phase would only be a few weeks at the most. After all the "Russian" server is "live". Iam suprised that you guys are still playing it and intend not to play after the wipe.

Please do post if theres a firm date for when the game goes "live"

Well it's not a perfect game, but it is a good game. I'd recommend trying it out, considering it's free.
Got me a T-34 now, but I don't seem to do all too well with it, mostly because I always end up in the bottom end of the foodchain.

Grab the Zis-4 and you'll do all right.

Well, you also have to understand that the food chain, per se, its rather heavy as beta has been going on for quite some time and a lot of people have tier 9 and 10 tanks.

At the russian T-34 range your just at the point where you might be top dog in a fight....or the low dog with no chance of really doing much what-so-ever. Random chance will dictate that as well.

T-34 and T-34-85 are good tanks for their tier. But like all the rest of their tier, they get out-stripped quickly by higher tier tanks. Once we have a hard wipe upon release that will change.

Actually, I've been using the Zis-4 all along. I like having an accurate gun.

I've noticed that. Perhaps the open beta will remedy that somewhat.

Wipe will be at the end of open beta.
Looking through my old closed beta screen shots

Yes, but perhaps the open beta will draw in more new players so there would be more low/mid tier tanks.

I just joined last night. It's more fun than Heroes in the Sky!

That the closed beta.

Back then the server population wasnt large so everyone regardless of level would be thrown into a match. (there was only automatch feature) so we have T-35 vs KV2

Early map terrian bugs were everywhere.

Tanks would become stuck on terrian features and/or would be pushed up. There was a command for stuck tanks as well which i forgot.

That is indeed currrently the case. While you may still get the odd game where your tier 6 ends up in a heavy tier 9/10 game, more often than not, that tier 6 ends up being top tier in a match with lower tiers.

Thats not to say you wont get into games with up to 4 tier 10s to a side. Because of that I currently load out my tier 6s with a full 50 percent HE ammo. While I might not be able to hurt them much, I can track/crit them all to hell, and over time, that can make a pretty big difference.

I just got T-34/85, and I have to load HE by default, because almost all the matches are top tier.

Sometimes it also depends on the time of day you play. I noticed a marked difference in population, say, in the mornings where I live as opposed to the early evenings.

And I live on the Pacific coast btw.

Also, I think the breakoff point for higher/lower games is around tier 6. I got a german 3601 I run 'cause its a great money maker for its tier. More often than not I get into tier 6 or lower fights, but I also get into those tier 9/10 fights where I am the lowest guy on the totem pole....like I said, it happens often enough I now run about 60/40 ap/he ammo.
