World War three won't happen. Heres why:

Nobody wants that. If it does happen, then we are all dead and there is nothing we can do about it
WWV is a long way off; the world depends too much on each other economically, as shown by the recent stock market drop that started in China and caused tremors all around the world. In addition, many powerful countries seem unwilling to fight for much of anything right now, I don't think WWV would have the popular support in the countries that would be fighting it (certainly not the democracies, at least). Nobody wants a large-scale war right now, except for the media, and their war in Iran isn't selling too well at the moment.
We are in a world war. Its Militant Islam vs. everybody else. Its hit America along with Morroco clear across to the Philipenes and as far north as Russia in asia and lets not forget Sudan and Bali.
WWV is a long way off;
What happenned to World Wars Three and Four?
WWIII was fought from 1945 to roughly 1991. On one side were the United States and its allies (NATO, etc.) and on the other, the Soviet Union and its allies (Warsaw Pact, Cuba, etc.). Both sides strategically positioned weapons of mass destruction, developed obscene arsenals of conventional and nuclear weapons, but mostly fought small wars, such as Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan rather than face open confrontation. Although the USA and USSR didn't actually shoot at each other, they were both heavily invested in a war that lasted half a century, and the rest of the world was very much wrapped up in it.
WWIV is currently being fought, and like WWIII, it is an ideological one. This one is a holy war, and it's unclear as to what the sides are, where the lines are drawn, and what's at stake. It may have started in 1991 when the USA and its allies stationed armed forces in Saudi Arabia (holy land), but it may have started earlier (US Marine base bombed in Lebanon, 1983, for example). Again, the world has a great deal at stake, hence it being a world war. However, rather than countries, the combatants are radical Muslims against moderate Muslims against secular states against Christian groups against Zionists...it's going to take a long time to sort this one out, let alone clean it up. It is being fought in New York and London, in Baghdad and Tehran, in Jerusalem and in Lebanon. Like the previous war, it is more of words and threats than outright warfare, but this one is fought with fear and fanaticism on all sides.
I'm not sure if WWV has to wait until WWIV is over, or if we can have more than one world war going on at once...
