World's largest woman at 700 pounds

No. It's not different. We all are members of the same species and we all have the same metabolism.
Sorry, but between your ridiculous claim about how exercize is useless and THIS, you are simply plastering the walls with ignorance - and bad advices.

First, yes, we all have very different metabolism. Second, yes, exercize is extremely good for the body - we're DESIGNED to, as it was said in a post here, run 10 miles a day to get food.
The fact you say to someone that you don't care about his personnal experience, but then base all your answer on your own, is funnily hypocrital - as you said yourself, one personnal experience is not something upon which you can make generalizations.

Diet is an important part, but exercize is just as important. In fact, hygienic life as a whole is important - sleeping also helps in keeping weight at a correct level, and even the times where you eat plays a noticeable role.
If there was some kind of magic "do this and become thin, no effort, no string attached" deal, you bet it would have made his inventor rich. But there isn't.

You might want to replace "designed" with "evolved". Otherwise I agree.

I think there's 3 explanations for the sex thing:

1. This is wishful thinking on her part.
2. She's talking about the past.
3. She doesn't have sex in the missionary position.

I would add to the 3rd explanation that if this is true there must be an unusual amount of men with a particular fetish in that area.

Actually now that I've given this more thought, there's a 4th explanation, that when men say she's a sex goddess they mean it literally.

Right, Unfortunately there are a lot of people who have this strange notion that you can somehow lose weight by being perpetually hungry.

It worked in concentration camps. Note: that's not a joke, it's to point out calorie reduction does work if you have the willpower.

She could first start off by doing the easy thing which is change her junk food for same filling healthy foods. All those soft drinks for water/carbonated water.

I actually didn't start this thread to make fun of her and she's really too easy of a target.

I think surgery may be the only option but one problem is this - I watched a show on Oprah about a woman who was over 500 pounds and she got surgery which reduced her weight to 200 something. The problem was her skin was still so stretched out that she had all this extra skin that just hung from her body. She had to have all of that removed. She looked normal on the show but I wonder if she had some significant scarring from that.

Also, if someone doesn't change their eating habits their stomach will expand again and they will gain weight again. That's what happened to Carnie Wilson, the fat chick from Wilson Phillips.

Okay, now you people just gave me, on top of horrible mental pictures, two questions that let me scratch my head :
- If she can't manage to move her weigth herself, how can she actually use the toilet ?
- Jokes aside, when there is THAT amount of fat around the "part", how it is even possible to have intercourse ? Unless you're abnormarly well-endowed, your thing isn't even going to reach the opening, much less actually enter in it and be able to do what it's supposed to do...

She probably has an extra large toilet, and paper for that matter.
As for sex, I'd assume she cannot have it. But she said she's a sex legend?

You can also cut your arm, I'm guaranteeing you that it will reduce your weight.

The point being, no, starving yourself doesn't work. The point of losing weight is to be healthier and more attractive, starvation is counter-productive for the first, and not really good for the second. Good diet combined with a large dose of exercise and a healthy life, on the other hand, IS a very effective way.

Starving yourself does work. I just proved it.

There is at least one scientist undergoing a minimal calorie diet right now because of research indicating it promotes longevity in mice. As you can imagine, he is thin. He does get adequate nutrients to survive, but no more. Diet alone can keep you thin. It just takes a hell of a lot of willpower.

You may want to actually read a post before answering it.
And also have a look at the definition of "starvation".

Instead of insulting me and acting like a jerk, you might actually attempt to back your claims.

There is NO evidence that exercise helps in losing weight. None. Anyone who tries to use exercise for this purpose fails. Ever hear the old expression "working up an appetite"? That's exactly what exercise does, which is why it fails. You are continually half-starving yourself. Eventually you give in and the pounds all come back.

Same thing goes for the typical diet. Eventually you give in and the pounds all come back. BTW, you don't need magic to scam people over weight. Weight Watchers makes a lot of money and has roughly zero results in the long run. Same thing goes for all these gyms. They make lots of money and they don't work.

As for your absurd notion that there is more than one kind of human metabolism, I suggest that you take a course in biology. Alternately you could read Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes.

I sometimes wonder if people in her situation even enjoy food. It's funny that I always see them eating loads of gross junk food and never anything actually good.

I'm just going to say it: you're wrong. You're taking the advice doctors give and stretching it way out of proportion. Does exercise increase appetite? Naturally. But, if you only eat 3 meals a day, and reform your diet, then that increased appetite won't matter anyway because you won't give in to the urge.

Truth is, for a person with zero control of their eating habits, then exercise won't help. If you're stuffing your face every hour, on the hour, then there are other problems you need to deal with first. But a person with even a little discipline will see results over time -- maybe a dozen pounds or more lost a year. It's a fact.

As I said - and you quite carefully ignored - it is simply not possible to "discipline" yourself forever. Eventually, you give in to your urges and the pounds all come back very quickly. Maybe a few iron-willed people can do this but most of us can't. Even they pay for it; infertility is common among women who over-exercise.

The notion that "discipline" is required is in itself absurd. Animals don't discipline themselves. Hunter/gatherers don't discipline themselves. Yet neither get obese. Obesity is not a character defect. It is a metabolic disorder caused by eating unnatural foods. The prime offenders are wheat, sugar and white rice. Cut them out and you will, at minimum stabilize your weight. If your metabolism is damaged enough (and today the abuse starts in the womb), you may have to cut even more carbohydrates out in order to heal yourself.
