I sure hope God exists. Otherwise life itself seems pretty pointless.

Not really. If we knew for a fact that he didnt exist, we'd know for sure that our task is to evolve into God, and then create a new universe by blowing ourselves up with a really big bang:crazyeye:

But it wouldn't be in my lifetime. With an evolutionary worldview, I would simply fall victim to the circle of life. I'd die, and someone else would evolve. What's the point of that?

Our purpose is to become gods ourselves and:
a) if God exists - ask him how the f did he become a God so fast since it took us millenias of millenias
b) if God doesn't exist - OMG we're the first to become Gods yay. The Human Race won the game through Religious Victory. Would you like to play again ?

If humanity were to evolve into God at some point in the future, then all things are possible, and not only would Puglover be back, everyone would be back, and youd all be God! Just for an endless Moment though. Then, youd blow up and begin the process all over again:crazyeye:

Nihil: do you have a 'sane' way of estimating the number of current prophets that would be 'real' if God existed? :)

There's no way to estimate such an event.

Nope, no such estimate exists. However, it is possible to evaluate the viability of existent theories against known parameters. From the state of known parameters we are in (AKA the state of science), the existent theories are all crappy because for each we can easily generate essentially an infinite amount of theories with a equal set of assumptions, i.e. an equal probability. Hence to assign any non-zero probability to these theories is preposterous.

What's the point in dieing and going to heaven?

I would simply fall victim to the circle of life.

That right there is the problem with your perspective. This whole living thing is not about being a "victim" of death. It's not a bad thing. You are god.

Only if it wasnt the judeo-christian god. Id rather be without god in that case honestly.

I wouldnt mind a god that allows everyone into heaven to do whatever he pleases tho.

Smells like the usual atheist bating theist for a flame thread :shake:

No, the world would not be better if God did not Exist. (DAMN IT I selected the wrong one :cringe: )

God doesnt exist because he violates the rules of science? Well, if the 'rules of science' are that powerful, then science is your god. All youve done is strip the homespun robe off of God and made him put on a lab coat.
I think the point he was making was that it's a lot harder to come up with scientific theories and laws about how the universe works if there's a sentient being who can randomly tweak things without us knowing.

Of course you could have a non-interventionist God, but then it wouldn't matter either way if he existed or not.

Science is basically about spotting patterns - the universe seems rather well behaved, which is why we can do this. Otherwise, scientists would be left with only being able to record large amounts of data, but no way to simplify it or predict what will happen.

I wouldn't mind a benevolent God. Death wouldn't be so bad after all.

Well, this ain't a problem for me...and I definately think the world would stink (if it existed at all) without God
