Uh. If emulating Jesus is being Christian, then I'd say that the majority of all "Christians" in the world aren't as such, and I definitely do not see you as one of them.
Well, since you have no idea of me personally, i'll consider the source. I've never compromised my faith on these forums, even when attacked for it. I've always given good biblical references when used, and I refuse to excuse sin.
You probably dont consider me a good Christian because your idea of a good Christian wouldnt actually be one.
Well, with a handful of exceptions, Jesus was strictly non-violent, both in the sense of refraining from direct violence, and in refraining from indirect violence through supporting violent institutions. The military, being at the end of the day a tool for killing people, does not seem something he would get involved with. So how does one square that with trying to live as Christ-like a life as one can?
Your not familiar with the bible are you? About the story of the Roman Centurion coming to Jesus to heal someone? He didnt castigate the Centurion for being a soldier; he actually praised him for his faith.
yeah mobby, of course he healed the soldier, he was jesus and jesus loves everyone after all.
the point is he WAS'NT the soldier.
Would you also regard prostitute, beggar and thief as respectable occupations for a Christian? These are all categories of people who Jesus, infinite fount of compassion that he was, brought into his arms without condemnation. So perhaps, as Holy King says, there's a wee bitty more to it than that.
came up in another thread, so: would jesus have joined the army?
if the answer is no, assuming a good christian is someone striving to be christ-like, can a soldier be a good christian?
