Why should I not have any kids because everyone else is a bad parent?
So wait, now people who don't hit their kids are bad parents? Even if their kids are well adjusted & well behaved? :crazyeye:

Need some more straw?
Please! I practice my palm to ass strokes on my scarecrow but I'm afraid I've pretty much knocked the stuffing out of the one I've got. :(

If the child isn't whining than no hitting is required.

Hitting(or some kind of harsh discipline ie smack on the head or taking away computer) is required when they are being little brats or throwing a fit.. Especially when they are young.

Bad parents are ones that let their kid be a spoiled brat in public and don't do anything about it.

I feel the same way about my women. :)

Note : not serious

Why not figure out why they are throwing the fit in the first place & get to the root of the problem?

I agree. But hitting them isn't the answer.

Don't come to us should your young'uns decide to unilaterally increase your shopping bill via broken merchandise.
Now who's erecting strawmen? Your assuming spanked kids are gonna be less ornery than unspanked ones. So far the trend in this thread seems to show the opposite. :mischief:

Like that is going to work. The problem is the child most likely wants attention, and if not that, wants something they saw on the shelf like a toy or ice cream of whatever.

As for the Italics, why not?

Because children throw fits, it's what they do, they don't even have to have a reason, they just feel like it.

I agree. But hitting them isn't the answer.

It can be.

And just to make it clear, I was never even spanked. My brother was, and I learned, hey, look what happened to him when he was being an idiot pain in the ass, so I never did it bad enough to require more than telling me to stop.

The statement of yours in question was in response to an "ornery" girl at a Target who caused a commotion and was subsequently restrained to prevent further damage. You seemed to be arguing to let the girl continue to wreak havoc, which would have monetary (and possibly legal) consequences for the parent.

The fit itself may interfere with finding its root.
The kid isn't going to be having a fit forever. If you throw a fit yourself (yanking the kid by the arm, yelling at her, threatening her, etc.) you're certainly not helping, nor setting a good example.

Why not just kneel down to their level & tell them to behave or they have to sit & wait in the car (assuming they're old enough to wait by themselves)? There are a million ways to deal with it without acting like a kid yourself.

Nowhere did I say that.

Did you know that Albert Einstein was beaten as a child? And look how he wound up! I want a little Albert Einstein!

I agree. But hitting them isn't the answer.

Not in public anyways. In Public is where you threaten to spank them if they don't stop. They will than stop when you show them your belt. They will have already been spankedn (by hand not belt) once or twice beforehand to know that it's not worth it.

Works like a charm.

Because children throw fits, it's what they do, they don't even have to have a reason, they just feel like it.
Human behavior has reasons. If you think it's all just random no wonder you imagine you'll have trouble raising kids.

Like that will work. pfft.

Most of the time they are bored to hell while shopping, they'd gladly accept the car. And if they are old enough to be in the car, than they are like 10 years old and shouldn't be throwing a fit anyway.

Yes, they want attention, want to get something you do not want to buy them or are bored.

What are you going to do to change that?

Why not just kneel down to their level & tell them to behave or they have to sit & wait in the car

And then have fun in jail for leaving kids alone in a car.

And don't insinuate I said or implied things I never did. I never thought I'd have trouble raising kids.

I waited in the car for my parents from age six or so.

Anyway, if they want to wait in the car let them. Mostly kids flip out cause they're parents try to force them to do things against their will. I'll be smart enough to pick my battles.

And then have fun in jail for leaving kids alone in a car.
Um, jailtime for having the kid wait in the car?

The kid isn't going to be having a fit forever.
There isn't always 'forever' to wait.
Spoiler :
Kid, road, car, get the picture?

Wait, let me pull out the kid's playbook: Ignore. (Retry, Abort)

There's nothing childish about physically restraining someone from doing something really stupid. He or she will thank you later (or your wallet, or the store staff, etc).

Nowhere did I say that.
You implied that you would not physically prevent the child from causing more damage. That's equivalent for the sake of this discussion.

Um, jailtime for having the kid wait in the car?

Child neglect, especially when it's very hot or very cold.
