So you think the main problem with that little girl is lack of beatings and if her parents just whooped her more she'd be much more well adjusted?
Need some more straw?

So wait, now people who don't hit their kids are bad parents? Even if their kids are well adjusted & well behaved? Why should I not have any kids because everyone else is a bad parent?
Please! I practice my palm to ass strokes on my scarecrow but I'm afraid I've pretty much knocked the stuffing out of the one I've got.Need some more straw?

I feel the same way about my women. If the child isn't whining than no hitting is required.
Why not figure out why they are throwing the fit in the first place & get to the root of the problem?Hitting(or some kind of harsh discipline ie smack on the head or taking away computer) is required when they are being little brats or throwing a fit.. Especially when they are young.
I agree. But hitting them isn't the answer.Bad parents are ones that let their kid be a spoiled brat in public and don't do anything about it.
Now who's erecting strawmen? Your assuming spanked kids are gonna be less ornery than unspanked ones. So far the trend in this thread seems to show the opposite.Don't come to us should your young'uns decide to unilaterally increase your shopping bill via broken merchandise.

The kid isn't going to be having a fit forever. If you throw a fit yourself (yanking the kid by the arm, yelling at her, threatening her, etc.) you're certainly not helping, nor setting a good example. The fit itself may interfere with finding its root.
Nowhere did I say that. The statement of yours in question was in response to an "ornery" girl at a Target who caused a commotion and was subsequently restrained to prevent further damage. You seemed to be arguing to let the girl continue to wreak havoc, which would have monetary (and possibly legal) consequences for the parent.
I agree. But hitting them isn't the answer.
Human behavior has reasons. If you think it's all just random no wonder you imagine you'll have trouble raising kids.Because children throw fits, it's what they do, they don't even have to have a reason, they just feel like it.

Why not just kneel down to their level & tell them to behave or they have to sit & wait in the car (assuming they're old enough to wait by themselves)? There are a million ways to deal with it without acting like a kid yourself.

I waited in the car for my parents from age six or so.Like that will work. pfft.
Most of the time they are bored to hell while shopping, they'd gladly accept the car. And if they are old enough to be in the car, than they are like 10 years old and shouldn't be throwing a fit anyway.
Um, jailtime for having the kid wait in the car?And then have fun in jail for leaving kids alone in a car.
There isn't always 'forever' to wait. The kid isn't going to be having a fit forever.

Wait, let me pull out the kid's playbook: Ignore. (Retry, Abort)Why not just kneel down to their level & tell them to behave or they have to sit & wait in the car (assuming they're old enough to wait by themselves)?
There's nothing childish about physically restraining someone from doing something really stupid. He or she will thank you later (or your wallet, or the store staff, etc). There are a million ways to deal with it without acting like a kid yourself.
You implied that you would not physically prevent the child from causing more damage. That's equivalent for the sake of this discussion.Nowhere did I say that.
Um, jailtime for having the kid wait in the car?
