The peoples of Western Washington and Western Oregon will gladly support CalExit in hopes of joining them shortly after (peaceful anexation), TExit will be inevetible once CalExit occurs.

It's interesting that you should mention Texas since it's a popular myth in Texas that the state has the unique right to secede. Not true, see Texas v. White (1869).

To those who got in a twist about my asking a simple question requiring a simple answer, get a life.

It has been my policy here to ask questions, such as the left hanging itself, and the one about what Clint Eastwood said, which I did not say, that would get people freakin out at me so that I may prove one point.

You folks and your politics and negativity is sapping your humor, decaying your charm, and you are losing your sparkle. Even a safe thread is a place to become offended. Why not just address the question? Raise your concerns to each other rather than get angry all the time?

Of course when I made a thread about too much negativity it got ...well its not so easy to post there now. That was where I had planned to make this post.

You may continue to freak out at me and get offended over my global warming thread if you must...

Pray tell amigo, where might I get one? Be a while now but eventually I'll be back in the US, pick one up. I lived in Jersey for decades, knew quite a few Jersey girls. Maybe reading the storioes of others who suffered might help alleviate the resulting twitch.

A proposal in California has been submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office on Thursday campaigning for the state to secede from the United States.

The proposed “Calexit” initiative would ask voters to repeal part of the state constitution that declares California an inseparable part of the U.S.

A recent poll suggested that one in three California residents would support a possible secession from the U.S. due to their opposition to President Donald Trump. No mention has been made of the president in the proposal.

If the proposal qualifies for the ballot and is approved by voters, it could be a step to a future vote on whether the state would break away from the rest of the nation.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla said the group behind the proposal, Yes California Independence Campaign, was cleared to begin attempting to collect nearly 600,000 voter signatures needed to place the plan on the ballot.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the supporters of the proposal have said California does not share the same cultural ideas as the rest of America.

Similar attempts to establish California as a nation, or break it into multiple states, have failed.

The proposed constitutional amendment, titled California Nationhood, would also ask voters to repeal language that states the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law. If approved, it calls for scheduling a vote in 2019 to ask voters, "Should California become a free, sovereign and independent country?"

"America already hates California, and America votes on emotions," Marcus Evans, vice president of Yes California told to the Los Angeles Times. "I think we'd have the votes today if we held it."

The campaign must submit the valid voter signatures by July 25 to qualify for the ballot.

Random thought on this matter: If there ever were to be a vote on California's secession from the US, shouldn't the entire US get to vote on the issue instead of just Californians? Their secession would have consequences for both Californians and the rest of the US, so it only makes sense that everyone in the nation get to have a say in whether or not they get to leave.

EDIT: Not to mention, if the majority of US citizens voted for California to leave, then the federal government would have no legitimate reason to oppose the secession.

What President Juncker fails to understand though is the EU is not a sovereign nation, whereas the US is. The EU is still just an international organization akin to the United Nations. So to support secession from the EU is just showing support for the decision of a sovereign nation to not be associated with an international organization anymore, whereas supporting the secession of states from the US is actively trying to disrupt the stability of a sovereign nation and could legitimately be viewed as an act of aggression.
