First I want to say these are some great units, but how can I put different mod components like civs & units (like these) into a mod so that I can load and unload the mod, without putting them in, or editing an existing mod or folder that came with my Civ4 BTS?

By creating your own mod and editing its XML. There is no other way (other than using a mod which includes the units already).

Thanks for the info and the link. I guess I'll have to learn how to make a mod, eventually, it seems quite complex for now.
