Aeon221:
Just a small note...WE ARE NOT THE AXIS! The great nations of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire are the CENTRAL POWERS in The Great War. I think this is the reason The Great War is so interesting. True many young men lost their lives for about 50 miles of land over a 4 plus year period...that in itself is a tradgedy. However, if the central powers had won...which they were very close to in the spring of 18', it would have not been a victory for evil as it would have been for the Nazi's in World War II.
I'm sure Germany would have took some land, but other then that I suppose they would have allowed the French to continue their existence. Russia would have lost all of Poland, but would have been allowed to keep the territorial line given from the Brest-Litovsk Treaty. I think this is why I am drawn to World War I much more in then World War II. I am almost certain that Churchill said of World War II, "This is a fight that we must win." The allies had to win World War II. It was clearly a fight between good (the Allies) and evil (the Axis, in particular the Semitic Nazis). I think anyone who is not a neo-Nazi would agree.
World War I was not a fight between good and evil. Both sides propaganda would have told you so, but between the soldiers and even high command there was a mutual respect and some rules of war (which there aren't any!) were still observed. I mean the King of Britain, the Tsar, and the Kaiser were all cousins if memory serves me correctly. The war was merely a giant chess match played by Governments but young mens' lives were used instead of chess pieces. Really sad, but it is more or less the truth!
Anyways, that is a lot of typing over you calling me "Axis" and not "Central Powers." Once again not a big deal, but I get bored in between turns... And since you are a big time history buff also, I just wanted to clear things up...

Good luck to all the young men at the front; may God protect you, and may you slaughter the Austrians and Turks at every turn!
No mention of the German Empire? Honestly, it seems as if though the Russian Empire and German Empire (the second pair of dominoes to fall in the trickle effect that started WW1) are hardly at war except for a small naval engagement and bombardment of each others' road networks...
