regarding your house rule for the winter time, do you also reduce your tank production in the winter proportionately to how many tanks you use or do you stockpile your tank forces in far away cities? the point i wanna make, in case you keep the same production level and stockpile your unused tanks, is that if you use all the unused tanks in the following summer turns, then it is in a way the same thing as using everything you have in the summer as well as in the winter, since what you can't do in the winter (offensive wise), you make up for in the summer (since you have far more tanks). Remember that Nazi Germany did not slow down their offensives in the winter. It just so happened that their tanks froze up so the losses were enormous, which is why the Russians had so much success in their offensives. So, the following spring/summer, Germany would have to bring in a whole new batch of tanks for their offensive. This is one of the reasons why Germany lost the war - lack of production to keep up with the Russians, Brits, and the Americans.

Thats a great point. I didn't reduce my production, but I recall sustaining heavy losses myself as I had to employ "bad" tactics to counter the russians, ie attacking twice and leaving wounded tanks out in the field. As a result my losses were heavy and I could never increase my numbers throughout the winter. at one point I was down to mid 20's for tanks and never got above mid 30's.

I believe their lack of success during the winter in part was due to the amount of resources devoted to the Japanesse front. When winter started I was outnumbered in regards to tanks and thought I would actually suffer heavy losses but Russia only attacked with half of its tank force and in some turns even less.

also, to update you, I only attacked with 25% of in-theatre tanks. Which means I had to let 30 tanks sit there so I could attack with ~ 7-8.

Yes, the "bad tactics" perhaps demonstrate the real German winter war in Russia. I suppose it can work, if you are deliberately employing them. Have you also opened up a front in Africa, in Italian Libya. If you have then that should be a very interesting game. I couldn't do that in mine because Italy had lost all its colonies by mid 1940 when I was still battling France. Italy actually also lost Sardinia in week 49, 1941. Fortunately the Americans only had one marine there who was on his last square, and also I had a transport nearby, so I could take it back. Don't think I am gonna give it back to the Italians just yet though. I also suffered massive tank losses in that turn against the Brits. Down to 63 from 101 three turns back. Apparently the Panzer III G can't fight the Matildas at all. They are completely overpowered. And I am a bit far away from better tanks. So I need all the air power I can get to fight the Brits. Hopefully they don't have many lined up to be launched against me. Let's see how it goes.

Rocoteh, it is possible that there aren't many posters at the moment because a lot of them might be on vacation. It is summer time, atleast in North America this is the only time we get to go out and have a good time. so most people prefer doing that instead of staying in. Perhaps it will speed up again in late october. its true that the new civ 4 will be just around the corner, but this scenario in that version might just be the best thing that could happen to it.
