WW2-Global

Yes. But I think there are two advantages civ III still has:
a) a good editor to edit ALL.
b) THOUSANDS of UU. Especially ships are missing in civ IV.

Adler

Adler,

Yes, I agree.

These two important factors you mention will probably extend
the "lifetime" of CIV III until CIV V is released.
2009-2010 one can assume.

Honestly, I am suprise that this thread is still alive. The last time I play was the version 1.7. I am downloading it right now, do I need to know something with regard the newest version.

Great Job

Arvin Tunas,

Compared to version 1.7 the main change is the map.
Its a huge map with improved realism.

Should the current rumors concerning a new expansion for CIV 3
be true it will of course have great impact for work on WW2-Global
and my other scenarios.

Its now 2 years since Firaxis dropped their support for CIV 3.
Sometimes this fact is very frustrating and that is an understatement!

Just consider a never raze cities option in a new expansion!

A strategic warfare system would also be of heavy value.

And there is another important factor for Civ 3:

You can create much bigger worlds with much less PC-power. :)

Yes considering all the shortcomings with Civ4 I think Civ 3 will be around a long time.

Its interesting to note that activity at CIV 3 Completed Scenarios
compared to CIV 4 Completed Scenarios is still 3-1 in favour of CIV 3.

This is no wonder if you consider that after one year of desperate programming now a cruise missile can explode and be a cruise missile.
In Civ 3 you can mod without beeing a programmer.

Civinator,

Yes you are right.

I hope they not will repeat their mistake (leaving out the editor)
when its time for CIV 5.

I tried to place a screenshot here from the ETO-project.

For some reason it did not work.

Anyway I want you to know that the ETO-project still is on.
(ETO = European Theater of Operations.)

However WW2-Global still has priority.

Hi Rocoteh,

what´s the starting date of ETO ? If it´s 1.9.1939 we could compare OOB´s. :)

Civinator,

Yes its 1.9. 1939.

There will probably not be any great changes when it comes to
initial OOB:s.
However the naval system will be simplified.
That is: Not so many units as in WW2-Global.

In SOE we have tons of units (may be too much). The scale is regimental size, sometimes bataillons for landunits and squadrons for aircraft.

At time I try to name the Russian landunits. My most detailed resource in the moment is the book "Red Army Order of Battle 1941-1943" by W.Victor Madej. (ISBN 0-941052-11-7).

In this book there is a descriprion of all Russian divisions and regiments and the date and where they are formed. So I can see the names of the Russian units that did exist in 1.9.1939. But for the detailed locations I must sometimes guess, as I only have infos where these units are formed and normally stationed and additional infos about the names of the units that took part in the Polish and Finland Campaign.

Another OOB, where I have no detailed infos, is the German OOb at the French border in 1.9.1939. On the other side it seems, that some of your French OOb´s are don´t harmonize with the most detailed infos I have found about them in the internet.

A very good source for French OOb´s is http://alain.adam.perso.cegetel.net/france.html#fortifies

and: http://alain.adam.perso.cegetel.net/Regiments%20fran%E7ais.html#72eRI

and: http://enpointe.chez-alice.fr/oobs.html

A superdetailed OOB for the British units, esp. land and sea is at:
http://niehorster.orbat.com/017_britain/39_army/39_army.html

Civinator,

Thank you for the links.
I will check them.

A year ago I had a very interesting Russia OOB-info on order.
However the company where I had placed my order (pre-paid)
just disappeared! Seems to have been a "take the money and run
company". Its the only time during many years I have lost money
due to a mail-order.
However I of course lost much money when Simulations Publications
filed for bankruptcy some 30 years ago.
It also made heavy damage to the whole hobby of strategy gaming.

On SOE:

I really wish the whole SOE-team good luck.
However I will stay with the division-level.
The main reason to why TGW-Division is more popular then
TGW-Brigade is probably that most people think its to many units
to deal with in the Brigade-level version.

Rocoteh

Download of the WW2-Global 134 MB file has passed 10 000!

This fact really shows the basic strenght of the CIV 3 system!

Thanks a lot Rocoteh. And I can understand, why you stay on division- level.
I wanted to do the same for the same reason :) .

That's very impressive, especially considering the big file size of the scenario! Congratulations!!
