WW2-Global

Andreas68,

Thank you for the report.

"Week 46, 1943

Playing as Germany on medium difficulty.

North Africa

Took In Salah, Tunis, US held Tripolis and the original Italian Bisciara from the British. Invaded Egypt from the west and north with forces sailing from Crete - I conquered Alexandria, Cairo and Suez. Havong Suez is great, shortens the sea route to India, I already sent a dozen Type XXI submarines plus a 1 carrier force into the Red Sea. I plan to raid Indian cities."
Andreas68

You will have severe pressure on The British Empire now.

"Malta is conquered - the Japanese Yamato NE Tunis sailed into the Atlantic as soon as Tripoli was taken from the US, so I suspect the reason for its presence was the US possession of Tripoli - but it twice bombarded Malta before it went."
Andreas68

Yes, that was probably the reason.

"Middle East

Finally ousted the British and conquered Jerusalem, Baghdad and Kuweit. Took Mashhad, Esfahan and Ajvaz from Persia, now attacking Khorramshahr on the Persian Gulf. Plan to take Chah Bahar from Persia as well, opening up a land route to British India. Will leave Kandahar and Kabul alone for a while, being the last Persian positions then."
Andreas68

It will be impossible for Britain to defend India now.

"The East

Took Samarkand, Tashkent and Alma-ata from Russia. Now there's peace with Russia, unfortunately before I could take Kondo which would have given me a land connection to japanese held territory. But doesn't matter.

Pacific

Japan raized Port Moresby. Big mistake, as Port Moresby would have been very useful - if not essential - to threat Australia's Eastern Coast."
Andreas68

Agree.

"America

1 carrier positioned NE of St.Johns near Greenland to cover 3 transports sailing from Iceland and the Northern Approach, 3 carriers cover 6 convoys and a handful transports sailing from Brest - which brings the current total of my first wave to about 100 units. 2 carriers plus battleships are sitting in mid-Atlantic to attack any possible US battleship (one of the last 6 remaining) steaming east. About 25 Me 262 are waiting at Brest to be moved to St.Johns for air cover as soon as it's conquered. If more are needed, I move the other ones west as well (total of about 55 Me 262's). My bombers are still fighting in Middle East and Africa, but the majority (of the He-177, the older ones stay) will move to St.Johns as well. Ten Ju-488 are waiting in Ireland, more being built."
Andreas68

In impressing invasion-force.
It will be interesting to follow how strong the US counterattacks will be.

"The invasion fleet will arrive at St.Johns in week 50, and then the big fight will start. The US is now focussing on building B-24 and Wildcats, now at 18 Wildcats and 11 B-24's. That's the drawback of taking Tripoli, as it was still in US hands, they sent the Liberators there to be destroyed by my bomb attacks. Now the US AI surely stores them on the east coast."
Andreas68

Probably US AI started to late building air units.

Thank you and welcome back.

Rocoteh!
Thank you for the reply, when is your next scenario going to be on?
Plus Andreas, you post too much infomation on the game. You are definetly spoiling the game.

oh my god, WW2GLOBAL STILL ALIVE ! I was pretty much sure that even you, Rocoteh will move to moding in Civ4 ^_^ .

I'm so glad to be back eventhough I don't have that plenty time like I'd 1 year ago ( I'm now a soldier in IDF :( )

anyway, it's great to see it's alive and UPDATED ! ( Downloading . . . )

CIV is a pain in the arse if you ask me. The game has taken away the ability to amass large numbers of troops. Though I must say I like xml, c++, and python for modding, but still a pain in the but if you want something done quickly.

EDIT:
Hey Rocotech. I had always been playing 2.4 and the one change that I have noticed was that we are now required to build railroad construction crews. (>_>) this puts a slight damper on the style of playing I had but not by much. I still stick to the railroad to each city the shortest route.

In regards to the pedia update files, it appears the updated .biq file is from the original 2.4 or 2.5 as the railroad constructors are enabled in the .biq. Easy enough fix to edit and clear the "Available to" list, so it doesn't mess up the AI building workers.

So far only that is the only issue I see with them.

Nevermind, looks like the 2.5 had them, thought they had been removed in the latest file.

Yes, when I was going through the pedia files, I did realize the railroad construction workers are quite worthless, since the combat engineers can build railroads at the same rate, at a much lesser cost in shields. I did download the latest .biq 2.5 file from post 1 when I started the update on the civilopedia (which was a couple weeks ago), so unless there is a more current one, I am unaware of it. I will download the 2.5 .biq again and check it out to see if it is the same as the 2.5 I got before. If it is not, a correction would be easy enough.

SuperKidNic1,

My current project is mod/scenario Another World.

Its a mod of the epic Civ 3, but since it will use a fixed map
it will be released as a scenario.

goodsmell,

Welcome back!
Good to see you here again.

I hope you will like version 2.5.

On Civ 4:

I would not rule out I will mod Civ 4 in the future.
However I will probably wait for Civ 5 instead.

Drivebymaster,

There is a problem though:

AI can not use its worker units.
There will be a solution in version 2.6.

A late special railroad-tech will probably be added.

Rocoteh

The AI in general does not use the workers like they should, which is in stacks of units, but the rather use them in stacks of 2 only. I blame the AI developers. But I think that if your going to make railroad construction workers shouldn't they have a high work rate to get the railroads done faster other wise the AI wont use them at all.

WOW I havent been here in over a year too and I'm amazed. All the effort and commitment you guys especially Rocoteh have put into this is inspiring. I havent played CIV in probably a year or so but i've been itching to continue a campaign. The only mods I remember playing were this one, the AoI and that custom map with the 9 islands on it with different resources lol. I think I might actually start a campaign with Russia in 2.5 since I don't think I've played it yet. Thank you Rocoteh you are my hero!!!

Drivebymaster,

Yes that is right.

I think a late special rail tech will work well.
Such a tech will represent heavy investments into
infrastructure and rolling stock.

Hubschrauber,

Thank you.
I am glad to hear that.

Welcome back to the thread!

Rocoteh -
I just started a Regent game, as France, in version 2.5, and am up to Week 11, 1940.

In Europe: Germany rolled over Poland within about 4 weeks. Germany also knocked the Dutch and Belgians off the Continent, but the the Belgians fought a very spirited defense of Brussels, and I tried to chip, by using my air units to bomb the German attackers, and by picking off German units red-lined by the Belgian defenders.
Germany has now turned their attention to me, and has destroyed all my static "Special Fortress" defenders, as well as sweeping my fighters from the sky. (I exacted a heavy toll from the Luftwaffe, though - they lost many bombers and dive-bombers to my air force.) In addition to moving armor south from Belgium to attack, for some reason the Germans also insist upon smashing armor and infantry units against the fortress-city of Strasbourg.
For my part, I have pulled my remaining bomber units back to Cherbourg, and have massed all my artillery in Verdun. I've succeeded so far in driving off the German attacks from the north by using concentrated artillery and bomber attacks, then picking off the occasional wounded straggler. I've lost no cities to the Wermacht.
On the last turn, the British recaptured Antwerp from the Germans.

The Italians have been pretty aggressive, much to my surprise. They have sent 8 or 10 groups of infantry (though mainly conscripts), with some occasional armor, against my southern cities, and they continue to attack Marseilles from the air. Further, they have attempted three separate amphibious attacks against Corsica. However, I've had no problem fending them off.

In the Med:
The Italian Navy is a thing of the past, due to the combined efforts of my Navy and the British and US navies. The Americans have a carrier and a battleship, along with sundry cruisers and destroyers in the Med now, and it appears that the Brits just moved a carrier force in via Suez.
The British have armored units on Sardinia, and I saw a US transport motor in past Gibraltar at the end of last turn.

In Africa, I grabbed Tripoli from the Italians. Here's something interesting - the Italians captured Stanleyville from the Belgians! As I said, the Italian AI (at least in my eyes) is playing aggressively.

In the East -
Japan has captured the Phillipines, Guam, Banjamarsin, and Makassar. They've also razed Balikpapan, and the Chinese city just east of Lanchow, between Lanchow and Peking.
The British control Fakfak, so I'm assuming the Japanese captured it from the Dutch, only to lose it back to the British.

The Soviets -
Turkey declared war on the Soviets about 5 turns ago (submarine bug, I'm betting), and have gotten stomped for their trouble. Turkey has only 2 cities now - Istanbul and Trabzon - the Soviets control all the others.

My next steps are to just hold on in France - I don't want to lose a single city. I'm trying to build armor units, but French production is bad, given the small number of cities and poor production per city, PLUS the unhappiness factor. I've managed to complete 2 workers in France, and have them feverishly digging mines, in an effort to boost production somewhat.

I'm trying also to build enough units in Africa to take Bisciara from the Italians. If I get booted off the Continent, I need the oil around Bisciara to have any realistic chance at mounting a meaningful campaign against the Axis.

I post more in a week or so.

Quick question. Why don't the paratroopers have the pillage ability turned on? Because numerous times I have needed to destroy simple roads with these paratrooper units.

I am playing on Sid with the AI set to most aggressive and I am playing as Germany.

EDIT:
Does anyone have an explanation as to why the AI razes cities? Britain invaded through southern italy and razed Rome, Palermo, and Taranto. I figure more cities are to come. I have invaded all of France and plan to take Yugoslavia next due to ease of invasion. Week 42, 1940

somdnole,

Than you for the report.

somdnole

The reduction of Germanys bomber-force should be of great value later.
It will take time for AI to replace these units.

"In addition to moving armor south from Belgium to attack, for some reason the Germans also insist upon smashing armor and infantry units against the fortress-city of Strasbourg.

somdnole

AI like frontal assault tactics.
Overall a good start I think.

"The Italians have been pretty aggressive, much to my surprise. somdnole

With its navy lost Italy will never recover.

"In Africa, I grabbed Tripoli from the Italians. Here's something interesting - the Italians captured Stanleyville from the Belgians! As I said, the Italian AI (at least in my eyes) is playing aggressively."
somdnole

Agree.
Its unusual play from Italy-AI.

"In the East -
Japan has captured the Phillipines, Guam, Banjamarsin, and Makassar. They've also razed Balikpapan, and the Chinese city just east of Lanchow, between Lanchow and Peking.

Rather good start for Japan.

somdnole

Yes it maybe the submarine bug again.

"My next steps are to just hold on in France - I don't want to lose a single city. somdnole

I think you will have a good chance to defend the France homeland.

"I'm trying also to build enough units in Africa to take Bisciara from the Italians. If I get booted off the Continent, I need the oil around Bisciara to have any realistic chance at mounting a meaningful campaign against the Axis.

Thank you.
I am looking forward to read your next report.

Welcome back.

Drivebymaster,

On paratroopers:

Its a bug.
Thank you for reporting it.

On city-razing:

If a city is close to another city or cities it seems to increase the
risk for AI razing it.
Autoproduction of units will also have that effect.
