WW2-Global

IarnGreiper,

Thank you for the report.

"We managed to cripple the US Pacific fleet by invading Midway in a suprise attack of 12 divisions. We managed to catch 11 US capital ships. However we have a massive lack of troops suitable for naval assaults. Our regular Wehrmacht divisions prove to be too weak for that kind of operations."
IarnGreiper

I call that a surprise attack!

"The British Exile Empire now displays over 350 tank divisions"
IarnGreiper

Incredible! Will probably implement the need for the British resource
to build air, naval and tank units in version 2.1.
This will make it hard to produce such units in Africa and India.

Looking forward to follow how this playtest turns out.

Thank you and welcome back.

December 1 will be the target date for huge map version 2.1.

This will give me time to locate all bugs and to check how this
new huge map version works.

German Front Report November 1942

After years of production of battleships in Scandinavia this turned out to be a wise decision (could not build Panzers there due to resource problems). The Soviet troops in Finland thinned out and we blitzed them out of Finnland (besides Kemi which is still Finnish) and took Leningrad (which has been sieged by sea over a year) with few SS Panzer divisions.
The main force of the Wehrmacht is still dug in Stalingrad and fighing off wave after wave of British Challenger tanks.
The Hauptquatier is confident that our recent success in Finnland will be the breakthrough in the Russian campaign. Soon we will attack Moskau from the undefended north. Thanks to our long range jet fighters and heavy bombers we are able to support this assault without rebasing Luftwaffe units.

Dutch Harbor fell within a weak. Lost some subs to British naval operations near Japan. Sunk two British carriers as a revenge. The British have lost numerous ships to our Hindenburg class ships hich are still unsunk.

Dezember update: Russian positions crumbled. We were able to concentrate the Wehrmacht divisions based in Vilnius, Riga, Talinn, Minsk, Novgorod and Smolensk into a single Kampfgruppe which is devastating norther Russia. The Scandinavian garrisions have be rebased to Finnland and are laying siege with the Kriegsmarine on Murmansk and Kem. As we were able to cut down the length of our easter front by half we now can use our advantage over the Russians. Our iron grip binds many enemy forces near Stalingrad as well.
Without British support the Soviets would totally collapse and even with their support they are loosing everywhere no Tommies show up.

As the year 1942 ends we can conclude the following:

America at last becomes a production backbone. While they produce slow because of corruption, we produce many units simultaniously. We rally them in Brazil and will soon have a nice suprice for the Allies in Africa.

We now field the following numbers:

Wehrmacht (ground forces):

17 Marine divisions
19+7 Paratrooper divisions
7 HMG
4 British Commandos
147 German infantry
45 Panzergrenadier

4 heavy artillery
3 German artillery divisions
29 mobile rocket launchers
55 German 88
4 Flak

77 SS Panzer 44 divisions
33 SS Panzer 43 divsions
78 Panther
34 Jagdpanther

Reichssicherheitsdienst (homeland security):
13 British tank division
6 light divisions
4 Panzer II
2 Panzer IIIe
22 Panzer IIIg
114 German Security divisions
29 Hungarian Infantry
43 Romania Infantry
24 Bulgaria Infantry
1 cavalry for amusement

Luftwaffe (airforce):
1 DO 17
5 HS 129
3 Recon
26 He 177
15 Ju 188
11 He 111
15 Ju 87B
3 Me 110
7 Ju 88
1 V2
3 Paratrooper plane
91 Me 262
30 Fw 190
28 Me 109

Kriegsmarine (navy):
1 submarine
6 BismarkC class
37 transport
1 special transport
10 destroyer 1939
110 U boot Type VII
8 carrier C3
1 heavy cruiser
24 UB type IX
52 Hindenburg class ships (mostly named by the HQ)
4 light cruiser
85 UB Type XXI (no need for destroyers when you have this class)
2 Deutschland class
3 Schnellboot flotilla
2 German predreadnaughts

Reichsarbeitsdienst:
137 settlers (from about 250), we gave half of them a rest in cities

Our main production in now concentrated on UB type XXI, Panther, SS division 44, He 177, Jagdpanther.
We rarely produce any other unit now. If we are in need of garrison forces we most likely produce German security divisions or German infantry.

Soviets are down to 13 tanks, 20 artillery and 180 infantry. They still field 60 toy planes.

French are at abou 180 infantry, 20 tanks, 20 artillery, 40 planes

China 50 infanty 8 tanks

Italy 1 tank 14 infantry 1 battleship 1 light cruiser 1 transport

Japan 2 Yamato 8 other ships 56 infantry 50 special fortresses 4 marines 10 planes

USA 3 battleships 7 other, 1 tank 1 art, 17 infantry, 3planes

Persia 14 infantry 1 tank

Netherlands 50 infantry 14 ships 3 light tanks 3 planes

Communist china 30 infantry 2 artillery 2 Flak 2 planes

Belgium 27 infantry

Finnland 8 infantry 1 artillery 7 ships

Turkey 17 infantry 1 tank

Portugal 30 infantry

Great Britain
9 artillery 270 infantry 250 tanks (mostly Matildas, new ones all on Stalingrad scrapyards) 35 fighters 20 bombers
1 battleship 2 carriers 8 destroyer flotillas a dozen other ships 4 transports

I honestly don t know if I want to carry on since no other nation can match me anymore. The Kriegsmarine fields enough Hindenburg class ships to rule every sea, our UBs take sure no small fish slip through. The Luftwaffe is able to strike whereever they want. We have enough production to field many new SS Panzer 44 and HE 177 a weak, which are total devastating to everything but Soviet heavy tanks and those tanks are easy prey with combined arms are few in numbers.
We lack troops suited for naval assaults but we have other means to deal with that (naval bombard, airstrikes).

I will post a number of proposals based on my latest playtest (and the sum of other playtests) later.

IarnGreiper,

Thank you for the report.

This playtest have been very interesting to follow.
You have now won de facto.

In december its one year since WW2-Global was launched.
The new huge map will hopefully offer new life to the scenario.

Welcome back with more comments on version 2.0 and reports
on the BETA.

I'm glad you're trying to remove the possibility to build tanks all over; I mean, WWII was fought with lots of tanks, but many infantry also. One other thing, it is much more interesting and tactical to have different types of units to fight than having just one or two :)

krazydude,

Yes I agree.

Also, industrial plants producing tanks (for example) in Kenya
1939 is very unrealistic.

I think the concept of limiting heavy weapon production is fine with the following issues to consider -

1. How will we deal with Soviet and Chinese cities? Will we make tanks and planes in Chinese cities?? Will Siberian cities suddenly be productive? Yes I know the Russians moved their industrial production but only after they were in danger and actually lost their Western cities. Will Russian cities have multiple production sites even though significant material came from the Allies?

2. Will we significantly reduce production costs in order to allow fewer cities to produce the arms necessary to reflect the dramatic ramp up in production of American and British manufacture? Or will the additional cities in 2.1 address this issue?

Bob1475,

1. Chinese cities is a border-case. I welcome feedback on this issue.
Production-increase in Siberian cities can be solved with wonders.

2. I think the additional cities in 2.1 will solve this problem.
There have been a large increae in number of cities for US and Britain.

USA - V2.0 DEMIGOD
WEEK 43 - 1943

The Soviet Juggernaut just keeps rolling over all who resist them. They now control the entire continental landmass of Asia from Kamchatka in the east to Singapore in the south and all the way across to Stettin in Germany and all of Norway. Persia and Arabia have been conquered as has North and Central Africa. They continue to push south seemingly intent on heading for Cape Town. The Soviet heavy unit order of battle is as follows:
41 - T34/76
73 - T34/85
230 - SU122
106 - IS1
149 - IS2
121 - Soviet Guard Infantry
193 - Russian Infantry
These forces are significantly reduced from a few turns ago when the SU and Germany were at peace. What ever triggered it of has reduced Soviet armour by one third but they have not actually lost any cities.

The Germans have been dealing with the indignity of having a Soviet enclave consisting of Brussels, Amsterdam and Ruhr. They are assaulting it heavily however the cunning Soviets heavily garrisioned it during the peace.
The Germans have been slaughtering their opponent however they don't have the numbers to keep this up and shortly I feel that the Soviets will mount an unstoppable offensive. The German heavy units OOB is as follows:

21 - Panther (29)
19 - Jagdpanther (33)
64 - SS Panzer 1943 (97)
22 - StuGIII (27)
22 - German Infantry (54)

(The brackets indicate the initial numbers when the offensive began a few turns ago)
Things look bleak for the Germans. The only bright point for them is Gorings Luftwaffe. Fighter cover is playing murderous havoc with the Soviet bomber streams.
64 - HS219's
24 - ME262's have formed an impenetrable shield. So far the Soviets have lost 40 bombers and seem to be happy to keep throwing them at the cities in preparation for the inevitable armoured assault.

The USA has been slowly building in strength. By necessity I have conquered all the small nations of the America's. Only Brazil remains in the south and the British in the north. The only reason the nation of Brazil remains is due to their jungle terrain forcing me to build a large force of Marines and Infantry prior to launching the attack. The USAAF is a formidable beast with:
60 B-29's
60 B-17's
60 P-51's
24 P-38's
12 B-24's
12 A-26's
12 Wildcats
This will not be enough to break through German aircover though.
Instead I shall assault Norway and Amsterdam simultaneously. I shall then strategically withdraw from Europe through Copenhagen and up to Scandenavia thus allowing the Germans to retake their original conquests. This will hopefully give them some respite and allow me to establish a bridge head in the more easily defensible Norwegian terrain. Hopefully the Soviets will batter themselves to death on my wall of steel whilst the Germans recover and give the Soviets two threats to worry about. Now all I have to do is build up my tank and artillery divisions to the point that this scheme will be viable. 60 Heavy US artillery, 60 Jacksons and 120 Pershings should be a good start.....

I just downloaded 2.0 and will start to play this scenario for the first time tonight - I'm struggling a bit w/who to play (thinking US at this point).

Thanks for all the work you all have put into this package! Any tips before getting started?

...did not actually get a chance to actually start yet - it sounds like the first round will take a while. Maybe a weekend project.

I just loved ww2 scenarioes for the civ2. Now ive tried a few ww2 for civ3, but its sometimes hard to get them to work, or to get them to load, loading time over 1hr with a amd 3500 with 1024mb ram is just to much :| So im looking for save games for this scenario, it says I can find them in post 3 9 and 10, but I cannot find them, so a bit dummy help here please :)

The scenario looks just totally awesome.

And whats up with having Persia as a country? I guess its been answered before, but I wont go through all 209 posts to find it :) And also thailand is allied with the evil powers ?!

And after spending almost an hour on the first round, im tired. The scenario is to accurate, maybe this is to much for me, but there are really many units in the game :)

@Gallowglass - go to the first page of this thread and look at the bottom of posting #1. You will find the .biq attachment and a link to the site where you will download 2.0.

btw - it takes a while to download the 2.0 file.

What civ did you select?

Rocoteh,

do you have a "huge" out for testing since the one that only had france, germany and italy at 100%? looking to play opening rounds again with more 100% nations.

thanks,
jb

ps prior to the december release!

Germany, Soviets, Japan and France are good if you want action straight away.

UK and US if you don't want action immediately but look forward to a long strategic campaign

All the others for people who like a real challenge or have a deathwish.
