WW2-Global

Rocoteh, I would agree w/ egroen that custom leaderheads would be nice. I think flags work fine if it makes things any easier. Perhaps in the upcoming update?? AoI has a lot of what would be needed and I'm sure we could find somebody to fill in the cracks.

This is Post 8 000!

A great thank you to all the posters in this thread!

In december this year its four years since the WW2-Global scenario was launched.

Rocoteh

Congratulations for this strong- and longliving scenario!
10k shouldn't be that hard to reach...

This is by far the only mod that has kept me hooked on Civ III for so long. I only hope 2KGames one day releases the source code for this game or some sort of SDK for us to actually play with the AI and fix it, and remove the city limit restrictions, add more abilities for units, etc... If they did release an SDK or the source I would immediately drop all of my other programming project and have a blast with this

againsttheflow,

OK, I will have it in mind with regard to the graphic update.

Drivebymaster,

I am very glad to hear that.
Thank you.

I think it will decide the future for Civ 3.
If its released Civ 3 should have many years left.

tom2050,

Thank you for the report.

Very good start I think.
You conquered London fast.
Britain should fall within a few turns now.

Will you strike east after that?

Welcome back with more reports.

Rocoteh

I must say, being that the AI cannot use any workers currently, I feel that my extensive use of workers and production micromanagement to create such a German economical powerhouse is the only reason why I was able to take London and Britain so quickly. I even terraformed Italy and Finland as well to increase their production, haha. Since Germany does not initially have that many coastal cities to create a large navy, I dumped alot of resources into any coastal cities to get their production as high as possible, but now u-boat type IX's are swarming all over, mostly unchecked in the atlantic, european coastline, and mediterranean. Perhaps I will restart without using any workers to make it more of a level playing field for the AI (will give a try on Sid most aggressive).

Oh, and I just recently got a better pc AMD dual core 5600+ 3GB mem (system alone was relatively inexpensive) and game flies, loading times between turns are maybe 30-45 secs (not counting watching units move), and new games load within 3-4 minutes. Not bad compared to my previous system, about 5 times faster. Dont necessarily need a quad core to get descent speed.

tom2050,

On AI and workers:

In the next version of WW2-Global this problem will be solved.
AI will use workers again. There will be a new special rail-tech that
will take a long time to research.
However once its researched workers will build railroads faster then in
version 2.5.

On the new recommended minimum-capacity:

I am glad to hear that WW2-Global runs fast on your new computer.
Waiting-time between turns on my computer bought 4 years ago (2 GB RAM 3.0 GHz) is about 10 minutes.

During the years people have posted now then and complained that
waiting-time between turns will make the scenario impossible to play.
Thus by setting a very high recommended minimum capacity
I hope that people with old computers will understand that waiting-time
will be long and it should not be a surprise.

Only ;) if Civ V and VI are better, Civ IV is quite a  disappointment.

Germany - SID difficulty, AI most aggressive, no workers (clean pollution only), ironman rules (no reloads)

Week 36, 1939 - Took Danzig and Radom (Poland). Spy planted in the US.
Week 37, 1939 - Caught Chinese attempting to plant a spy. Poland defeated.
Week 38, 1939 - Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Antwerp taken (France). Britain moved 6 Battleships, 3 Battlecruisers and 5 Heavy Cruisers towards Oslo minefield.
Week 39, 1939 - Destroyed 5 Britain Heavy Cruisers and 3 Battlecruisers at a loss of 1
Deutschland Class and 4 U-Boat VII's.
Week 40, 1939 - Brussels taken. Sunk 1 British Battleship at a loss of 6 u-boat VII's.
Week 41, 1939 - Assault on France ready to commence.
Week 42, 1939 - Lille and Verdun taken (France).
Week 43, 1939 - Japan takes Guam.
Week 44, 1939 - 4 British Battleships sunk at a cost of 18 subs/uboats.
Week 45, 1939 - Paris taken with ease after 2 weeks bombardment by 35 bombers and 8 HQ Artillery pieces.
Week 46, 1939 - Japan takes Manila (US). Declare war on Sweden.
Week 47, 1939 - Took Strasbourg (France).
Week 48, 1939 - Japan takes Ningpo.
Week 49, 1939 - Japan takes and razes Yenan.
Week 50, 1939 - Took Malmo (Sweden).
Week 51, 1939 - Japan takes Lanchow and Amoy. Took Lyon. My Allies have still not declared war on Sweden ???? France has been pumping out French DCR Armoured Divisions like crazy, really slowing down my advance.
Week 52, 1939 - My Allies finally declare war on Sweden. Japan takes and razes Balikpapan. Spy planted in Great Britain (3rd attempt).
Week 1, 1940 - Japan takes Ansi. Took Goteborg (Sweden). Strange, hardly any naval activity around the Britain, French and German coastline for the past 4-5 turns.
Week 2, 1940 - Japan takes Su-Chow.
Week 3, 1940 - Took Stockholm (Sweden) and Marseilles (France).
Week 4, 1940 - Took Toulouse and Bordeaux (France).
Week 5, 1940 - Colombia declares war on the US. Great Britain declares war on Colombia. Took Sundsvall (Sweden). Preparing assault on Switzerland.
Week 6, 1940 - 2 French Battleships sunk in Corisca harbor from bombing. Took Brest
(France). France defeated on European mainland.
Week 7, 1940 - Maginot Line destroyed, all remaining French fortresses and special
fortresses in the area have been taken out. Took Lulea (Sweden). Declare war on
Switzerland. Took Bern. Switzerland defeated. Preparing assault on Yugoslavia.
Week 8, 1940 - Gave Bern to Italy.
Week 9, 1940 - Japan takes Singapore.
Week 10, 1940 - Using Ju-87B Dive Bombers from Marseilles, killed all troops stationed at
Corsica, so Italy can use its transport to bring over troops and take the city. Using about 25 bombers, sank a french and british transport (along with escorts) that dropped tanks off near Italian capital. Britain continues bombing runs on my coastal cities, with heavy losses. They have sent lone transports out, but have not seen any ships around the Britain homeland since Week 1, 1940.
Week 11, 1940 - US defeats Colombia (city of Bogota). Japan takes Sian. Italian transport drops 6 tanks off on Corsica coast, Ju-87's kill the newly made french infantry there. Britain stationed 13 Blackburns, Spitfires, and Hurricanes at the coastal airbase near London protected by 1 1939 British Infantry and a flak. With a transport, destroyed them all with 1 marine and a couple infantry. Declare war on Yugoslavia. Took Belgrade and Zagreb (Yugoslavia). Preparing assault on Greece and Turkey.
Week 12, 1940 - Italy takes Corsica. My small fleet of 11 ships (u-boats, destroyers and
light cruisers) runs into 55 French and British subs off Spanish coast near La Coruna (20
subs sank). Took Dubrovnik and Yugoslavia defeated. 8 more British aircraft destroyed at coastal airbase near Portsmouth at loss of 3 German Infantry from transport. Declare war on Greece.
Week 13, 1940 - 4 British transports sunk near London, Plymouth, and La Coruna. 19 more French and British subs sank north of La Coruna.

A very strong start considering the high level.

Positive play from Japan AI.

That is also a smart move I think.

Seldom have such good play from Japan AI been reported earlier!

RedwallFortress,

I regard Civ 3 as better then Civ 4 for several reasons.

However, considering that Firaxis dropped its support for Civ 3
four years ago the its crucial that the source code will be released.

Otherwise interest for it will probably fade away.

Honest to god I don't like CIV because I can't host large armies like I can in CivIII.

Week 11, 1940 - US defeats Colombia (city of Bogota).

Where I live... :) Things would sure have been different, they were supposed to stop with Panama. :gripe: I guess in this case though they brought it on themselves.:spank:

(I'm American, born here)

Honest to god I don't like CIV because I can't host large armies like I can in CivIII.

I just picked up Civ IV last week to check it out, but it feels as if they went in the complete wrong direction with the game. It is small, you cant create as many units, as said. In the beginning of the game, I just sat there pressing the next turn button over and over since there wasn't anything else to do after I move my very few units. I understand the game designers wanting to bring new aspects to the game, but they went a step backward and opted for slightly better graphics (which aren't that great anyway). I mean, what did they expect, after Civ III players are used to massive empires with tons of units, then they eliminate that. Dumb. haha. Ill give it another try, there may be some good mods.

Germany - SID difficulty, AI most aggressive, no workers (clean pollution only), ironman rules (no reloads)

Week 14, 1940 - Japan takes Mangnai (China). Took out remaining British/French subs of the 55 sub fleet, I lost about 7 destroyers and uboats in the naval battle. Took Athens
(Greece), will rush a transport to assault Crete. Declare war on Turkey.
Week 15, 1940 - First BismarckC steams out of Stettin. Took Istanbul (Turkey). Taking out the 3 fortresses on Istanbul took bombardment from over 25 bombers and 11 artillery. Ju-87's lethal land bombardment destroyed 2 of them. A few ground losses on remaining fortress.
Week 16, 1940 - Caught Turks attempting to plant a spy.
Week 17, 1940 - Italy dropped 2 tanks off on Crete island, but they were unable to take it. My Ju-87's from Athens took out Crete's remaining 3 infantry so the surviving Italian tank can take the city next turn.
Week 18, 1940 - Italy takes Crete. Greece defeated. While pursuing a damaged US carrier across the Atlantic, I ran across a US Escort Carrier (which requires Sea 1942!!), I know the AI researches much faster on SID difficulty, but its crazy if US research is that far ahead! Took Ankara, Samsun and Adana (Turkey). Gathering forces to launch assault on London, planned to commence on Week 23, 1940.
Week 19, 1940 - Italian transport group moving towards Nicosia, so started bombing with Ju-87's from Athens to attempt to wipe out some of the defenses.
Week 20, 1940 - Japan takes and razes Urumtsi (Communist-China). US definitely is at Sea 1942 already, ran across a US Light Cruiser C2. Took Erzurum (Turkey). Bombers took out 4 infantry at Nicosia. Italy dropped off 1 tank on Nicosia coast.
Week 21, 1940 - Japan takes and razes Tian Shou (Communist-China). Axis powers have not lost 1 city to date! Especially surprising that Italy still has all of its cities even in
Africa. Japan seems to be on an adrenaline pumped all out assault or something. haha!
Week 22, 1940 - Took Trabzon and Turkey defeated. Nicosia's infantry defenses taken out, italian tank will be able to take city next turn. Moving all forces over to prepare for
London assault. Bringing over naval ships to London to begin bombard (2 BismarckC, 2 Heavy Cruiser C2s, 1 Gneisenau, 10 S-Boat Flotillas). Disbanded some mines near Oslo and Malmo to let the Finland navy get out to sea. I have a u-boat fleet stationed near Oslo to protect the passage.
Week 23, 1940 - Italy takes Corsica (British). 22 US destroyers sunk NW of La Coruna at a cost of several Uboats. London naval bombardment begun, air bombardment will begin next turn. Norway-Denmark moved their coastal flotilla and blocked the passage through the mines I just opened for Finland. If they dont move it, I am going to precipitate a war. Current US strength: 167 subs/ships, 4 carriers, 14 transports, 28 artillery, 279 infantry, 62 fighters/bombers, 142 tanks.
Week 24, 1940 - Norway-Denmark tells me to remove my troops(minefields!) or war. I will since otherwise no one(including my allies) will sign a right of passage. This shifted all minefields out of their territory. Took Damascus (French).

Your strategy to back up Italian offensives with airpower seems to
work very well.
Most of AI:s amphibious operations will fail since only 2-4 units are send
(with some exceptions).

US will probably be hard to deal with considering the fast research you mention.

You will probably soon conquer the British homeland.
Looking forward to hear where you plan to go from these positions.

Drivebymaster,

Agree.
That is a major problem with Civ 4.

Another major problem is that the world maps that can be done
is still (de facto) small compared to the Civ 3 max world maps.
