WW2-Global

Germany - SID difficulty, AI most aggressive, no workers (clean pollution only), ironman rules (no reloads)

Week 25, 1940 - Lost many bombers over London (8-10). Too many units in London for an amphibious assault, require tanks. Bombardment is not effective enough, even with
14 ships/36 bombers. With my 3 transports, made 2 dropoffs each from Amsterdam. With
paratroopers, have 38 units next to London, and about 12-14 more I can bring in next turn.
Week 26, 1940 - London troops still too strong, lost many tanks with nothing to show for; will attempt to take next turn. Britain making really good use of its artillery.
Week 27, 1940 - Took London at a cost of 7+ tanks, 1 Marine, and 13 infantry.
Week 28, 1940 - Japan takes Wuhan (Chinese). My ground forces in the middle east are going to try to push down from Turkey and Damascus and take all of Great Britains coastal cities (Jerusalem, Suez, and Alexandria) in order to cripple Britains naval influence in the region. Cannot declare war on Norway-Denmark, my forces are way overextended!
Week 29, 1940 - Japan takes Chang-sha (Chinese). Britain also now has Sea 1941, a 1941 Destroyer just steamed toward Oslo.
Week 30, 1940 - First Axis city taken! US takes Kwajalein (Japan). Japan takes Hong Kong (British). I have been supplying all of my allies with resources, money, and luxuries for free to help them out (although they do not reciprocate). Finland needs something to do! Declare war on Norway-Denmark. Took Jerusalem and Portsmouth (Britain). Stumbled across 2 British King George Battleships, 2 transports, and destroyers near Plymouth. My fleet is headed towards Plymouth to begin bombard, will redirect to engage next turn.
Week 31, 1940 - Oh s***! Japan declared war on the Soviet Union! Initial Soviet assault
broke through my frontline infantry defenses at Konigsberg, Warsaw, Bucharest, and Erzurum (the rest held). Bad time for me to declare war on Norway-Denmark! Will rush all non-military productions this turn to start making troops the next. Took Oslo (Norway-Denmark). Japan takes Kweilin (Chinese). A British force of 30+ ships just came through the Suez canal and my forces are posed to take it next turn. About 15-20+ Italian tanks heading up into Germany to assist against Russians.
Week 32, 1940 - Japan takes Liuzhou (Chinese). Took Suez and Plymouth (Britain). Took
Copenhagen (Norway-Denmark). Almost all defensive positions have been broke through by Soviet Russia. Repositioning infantry to Soviet front line from other cities. Will
distribute Ju-87's to help curb Soviet advance. Current US strength: 96 subs/ships, 7
carriers, 9 transports, 33 artillery, 334 infantry, 69 fighters/bombers, 141 tanks.
Week 33, 1940 - Sunk 6 Soviet transports heading towards Copenhagen. Italian tanks were quite effective in distracting the Soviets and gave my troops time to organize. Soviets have hordes of armor, although individually they are not that strong.

tom2050

That is seldom reported.
Most of the time AI will not use artillery in a relevant way.

"Week 27, 1940 - Took London at a cost of 7+ tanks, 1 Marine, and 13 infantry.

tom2050

That should also make it hard for Britain to send reinforcements to India.

tom2050

I think that is a good strategy.

Bad news!
This will mean problems.

"Took Oslo (Norway-Denmark). Japan takes Kweilin (Chinese). A British force of 30+ ships just came through the Suez canal and my forces are posed to take it next turn. About 15-20+ Italian tanks heading up into Germany to assist against Russians.

No doubt a critical situation.

Hopefully you will be able to stop this massive Soviet offensive.

A very interesting playtest.

Thank you and welcome back.

Just thought I would lighten the mood ;)

Week 46, 1943 to Week 21, 1944

Playing as Germany on medium difficulty.

Africa
After invading Egypt, I decided to go south and take whatever I can. It's a comparably small force I use, half a dozen modern tanks (Tiger and Panther) plus some older models, some old artillery and infantry, since resistance is light. Took Dongola, Khartoum, Port Sudan, Mongalla, all the former Italian Somalia and Mombasa from the British, and am advancing towards Dodoma.

Regarding the French, I also slowly advance south through the desert, and the frontline now is Dakar, Bamako, Mao, British Kano, and Bangul. Everything up North is in my hands.

Sent two paratroopers as close as possible to Stanleyville to speed up the attack. Ju-88 bombers run sorties to keep pressure on the town, when my paratroopers arrive I will try to take it from the US - yes, here too, it was once Italian and then taken by the US.

Middle East and India

Had another carrier in the Red Sea which was in Arabian territory, which made the Arabs angry. Since they demanded me to leave, and calling my units "pigs", I decided this is enough a reason for declaring war - the whole Arab peninsula including British Aden is now mine.

Destroyed Persia, even taking Kandahar and Kabul, and am now fighting in India. I already took Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Srinagar, Jaipur and Dehli, the then British capital Lucknow '(capital now is South African Cape Town). I split my forces in two armies, one heading to Benares, the other to Nagpur. Bombay is under constant attack by air raids from 2 carriers stationed west of the city, a small force of infantry and old artillery pieces is moving through the swamps to attack, but hasn't arrived yet.

The East

Took Han Shou, Urumtsi and Kashgar from Communist-China in late 1943, making the Russian cities of Dusjanbe and Kisil Robat yet another Russian enclave (the other is still Moscow). Taking the Chinese cities now established me a border with my japanese Allies. I sent a expeditionary force to japanese held territory on Asian mainland, to assist Japan - it's tanks are crap, and a couple Tiger and even Panzer IVf2 have a mighty impact there. I conquered Sian - destroying the Communist-China civ - and handed it over to Japan, then did the same with British held Ningpo. Now I am holding Amoy, but keep it to "heal" my badly damaged tanks, then will assist Japan in taking Hongkong. Japan seems to profit from my assistance, since they started a major attack on China, taking Chang-sha and Kwejlin.

Russia

War broke out again in Week 15 1944 - the "Dusjanbe incident" was the reason. Since the southern Russian enclave was closely surrounded by my troops, it happened that Russia gained influence on territory, making a stack of my old artillery pieces and infantry now sitting on Russian territory. Since Russia repeatedly sent infantry on my territory, and now reacted angry about me doing (automatically) the same, I decided to not withdraw and declare war. Russia soon lost it's 9 Pe-8 bombers it built, and I took both enclaves (Moscow, Dusjanbe and Kisil Robat). In central Russia I took Kondo, Novosibirsk and Tomsk, in the north I now attack
Satarino and conquered the coastal port of Novvy Port.

Interesting that during peacetime, Russia did not build a single tank, but now restarted doing so in war. They still only built T-34/76, nothing more modern.

America

Invasion!

Week 51, my invasion force arrived at Saint Johns. A over-hastened attack by me resulted in the loss of 1 marine, then in week 52, Saint Johns fell to my forces. The US spotted my covering carrier task forces and bombed with B-24, resulting in huge losses for them, none of my ships were sunk.

The advance to mainland America is a logistical nightmare, I have to move transports and convoys with covering forces to avoid getting them sunk by aerial attacks. Losing one transport full with combat engineers to air attack made me to withdraw all transports from frontline service, relying only on convoys since they are better able to withstand attacks.

Week 2, 1944, Wolf Bay and Halifax were conquered. Wolf Bay I took only half-heartedly just to prevent it's use as an airbase. But my stay there is hugely attracting everything the British and US can muster. It seems to me especially the US is sending it's entire army there! All of it's tanks, and hundreds of infantry are on the march.

I use He-219 for recce, and bomb whatever I can.

After the fall of Halifax, I sent almost all my ground forces I have there to the 2 hills to await a major counter-attack. Didn't come, as the US were bypassing me and heading north to said Wolf Bay.

Big mistake. Or not, see Wolf Bay.

But the war there is nonetheless tough, costly, and going slow. This will be a long, long struggle.

Around Week 10, Quebec fell. The British build it's first Comet tanks, and these buggers turn out to be a tough opponent, with only Tiger II's (SS Panzer 1944) able to destroy them without taking "red-line-damage".

I send all my modern stuff to America, am now at about 37 Ju-488 bombers, 66 Me-262 and about 2 dozen He-177 there. Every single new produced Tiger II (SS Panzer 1944) is going there as well.

2 carrier task forces (6 carriers) are bombing Augusta, Boston, Albany, New York - and occasionaly Phily.

Week 16, Boston and Albany fell, plus Montreal. The entire US army arrived at two squares close to Wolf Bay. My usual air attack tactic of bombing tanks first fails, since the defence value of US Infantry 1939 and 1943 is higher than most of the tanks, so when bombing I have to destroy infantry first in order to destroy a single tank. But I was successful in destroying M4 Shermans, with only 4 of them left now. All the older tanks are still around. I built a airbase west of Saint Johns, to withdraw my planes from Wolf Bay, should it be overrun...

The US is now building P-47's, once they built 10 in a single turn! They kept sending them to Boston and Albany when this 2 cities were still American, and I do everything I can to destroy them the first turn they arrive there, to prevent them getting offensive. So far I keep managing numbers low, at about 4 to 5 still remaining after a turn.

Next on my list is attacking Buffalo and New York (now a 69 population metropolis), and British Ottawa.

Pacific

US invaded Japan!

Kushiro, on Japan's northenmost island of Hokkaido, is now in US hands. Japan desperately tries to retake the city, but fails miserably, since it's infantry is no match to US marines. In the Southern Pacific, Japan retook Kwajalein from the US. No other activiy spotted there.

What are my other allies doing?

Italy sends it's tanks on journeys through my eastern territories, trying to... well, what. They travel back and forth, doing nothing useful, only blocking my transport routes.

Finland is the same useless.

Andreas68,

Thank you for the report.

US forces in Congo!
Never reported earlier what I can remember.

For sure the British Empire is in big trouble now!

It will be interesting to hear which focus Japan AI will choose now.

Russias research is probably down to zero.

A surprise.
One could expect a fast massive counterattack here.

Agree.
This will be a long campaign.

One can wonder why US AI choose to abstain from counterattacking ins this situation.
Its a surprise really.

Yes it should be a good idea to reduce the US airforce as fast as possible.

Not a very good move from US AI considering your invasion of America.

The computer allies in Civ 3 is seldom of great value.

A very interesting report.

Thank you and welcome back.

Germany - SID difficulty, AI most aggressive, no workers (clean pollution only), ironman rules (no reloads)

Week 34, 1940 - Japan takes Nanning (Chinese). Took Alexandria (Britian). Massive Soviet Stack of Death near Pressburg and Budapest consisting of 43 Motorized Rifle Div/Tank Divisions . By next turn, at most will be able to group around 30 units to defend the 2 cities.
Week 35, 1940 - Took Cardiff (Britain). Took Bergen (Norway-Denmark). Soviet Stack of death did not move into my territory, but still sits on the border. Will have to temporarily stall assault on the remaining cities of the British homeland, my forces are insufficient.
Week 36, 1940 - Caught Brazil attempting to plant a spy. Japan takes Hanoi (French). Soviet stack of 49 pieces of armor moved inbetween Budapest and Pressburg, also able to strike Vienna. Moved all available troops to these 3 cities, mostly to Vienna and Budapest (since they are the largest. Started moving all 88's from my coastal cities to provide additional defense, in case of the worst.
Week 37, 1939 - Soviet Russia takes and razes Pressburg (Germany)! Took Cairo (Britain). Another Soviet stack of death consisting of 60 more armor pieces is posed on the border near Budepest! Total soviet armor and troops in the Budapest vicinity is 188 units!! Took out about 20 of those units. 5 German 88's will be able to reach these cities next turn, if I can hold out.
Week 38, 1940 - The majority of the Soviet mass near Budapest has moved towards Vienna instead of attacking. Budapest had 39 fortified infantry, security and panzers. There are now over 200 infantry and Soviet armor in that area. Took out about 20 more armor and infantry. German 88's fortified in Budapest and Vienna.
Week 39, 1940 - Japan takes Banjarmasin (Netherlands, near Singapore). The first Soviet T-34's and KV-1's appeared near Budapest! A couple KV-1's attacked near Turkey a few turns ago. 226 Soviet armor pieces in the vicinity! Took out about 40+ armor pieces.
Week 40, 1940 - The stack(s) of death (there is quite a few a them!) are moving inward toward Graz. Did as much damage as possible then signed a peace treaty with Soviet Russia (and my allies did as well). Hopefully it is kept long enough for me to fortify the whole border. I signed a right of passage in haste with Soviet, which I should not have done.
Week 41, 1940 - Took Trondheim (Norway-Denmark). Took Dongola (Britain). Soviet armor has begun to move back, thank GOD! Things were beginning to look grim. Defensive fronts are much more difficult to defend when not using workers (no radar towers and fortresses). Redirecting all bombers to Britain homeland, as well as all newly made tanks. Keep current forces and newly made infantry on German/Soviet border. Also continuing to push south into Africa.
Week 42, 1940 - My allies made peace with Norway-Denmark, forcing me to do the same.
Week 43, 1940 - Took Khartoum (Britain). Various Soviet forces are amassed and fortified in my territory. When the peace treaty ends, I will launch a surprise attack on Soviet Russia, by then I expect the British island to be defeated, and I can bring my full force against them.
Week 44, 1940 - Took Birmingham (Britain). Took Liverpool (Britain). Current US strength: 87 subs/ships, 4 carriers, 10 transports, 33 artillery, 419 infantry, 81 fighters/bombers, 178 tanks.

Week 21 to Week 28, 1944

Playing as Germany on medium difficulty.

Africa

Took Dodoma, Dakar, Mao and Stanleyville, am now attacking British Kano and Belgian Kamina. Spotted a stack of 5 US M2A2 tanks on the French/British border between Lagos and Brazzaville, but since they can't move in jungle terrain, they are no threat at all and something to be dealt with later.

I also landed a 9 infantry 1 artillery invasion force on the east coast of Madagascar.

India

All the former British colony of India is conquered, except Rangoon in the East and Madurai on the southern tip, but both are now under attack. Japan sent 2 Yamato battleships, a cruiser and a transport to Colombo, and took the island.

The East

Handed Amoy over to Japan, as I now conquered Hongkong, where my small expeditionary force, reinforced by 2 Panzergrenadiers, now sits and rests before I advance into French Indo-China. Japan is really speeding up it's efforts, now conquered Chinese Liuzhou and Nanning, attacking Kunming now. The Japanese Air Force bombs Hanoi with Betty's, Kate's and Aichi Val's. I hope to get to Hanoi before Japan does. In the north, it seems there's no fighting on Asian mainland between Russia and Japan, or at least none with any results - no city changed hands in the entire war, except 2 cities which have been destroyed early in the war, Ulan Bator and Yenan.

Russia

Took Satarino, Ustrem, Krasnojarsk and Dzag, and handed Novvy Port over to Finland. There's not much action there yet, Russia ceased to send any attacking forces, and I am slowly advancing towards Irkutsk.

America

Week 23, British Ottawa, and American New York fell to my troops, then also Buffalo and Philadelphia. When I took New York, all the US forces near Wolf Bay attempted to head back south, but there's no roads and movement is slow. Between them and US territory, a huge mass of my tanks awaits them near Quebec and MOntreal, so they're trapped there north, and I bomb the stacks turn by turn.

Week 25, Philadelphia was conquered, and week 27, Washington.

The US now builds P-51 Mustangs, which means they now also can build A-26 Invaders, F4U Corsairs and.... the mighty B-29. This is a bomber I really fear, as it's range of 30 covers almost the intire Atlantic, and since the AI is able to bomb ships miles away from any reconaissance range, my convoys are under threat. Haven't spotted any of these types yet, but I am sure when the Superfortress is there, I am in for a big show of force. I still manage to keep numbers of the US airfoirce low, it's now at 3 P-51, 5 P-47, 6 B-17, 4 B-24 Liberators (which, I suppose, sit in Hokkaido) and about 15 Wildcats and some Buffalos.

Pacific

Fierce fighting around Kushiro on Hokkaido between US forces and Japan. The US has a couple tanks there and attack Sapporo, then the battle turns and Japan attacks Kushiro. It's not decided yet, but if the US can't reinforce, I suspect Japan will be able to wear down the invading forces. Russia also involves itself into this fight, the one remaining Pe-8 bomber it has got bombs Japanese ships.

One interesting thing I noticed, a bombing run on Ottawa with a Ju-488 bomber destroyed... the Ottawa wonder! Never saw this happening before.

Rocoteh -
An update on my Regent game, as France - up to Week 33, 1942

SURPRISE TO ME - I am still holding all of France - I've lost no European or African French cities. I did lose Hanoi to the Japanese in Week 17, 1941.

The Japanese have taken all Chinese cities except Chengdu, and have eliminated the Dutch (took the last Dutch city, Surabaya, in Week 4, 1942).
There continues to be A LOT of action in the Pacific - Surabaya, Fakfak, and Batavia have changed hands several times, with the current situation being: Fakfak - British; Makassar,Banjarmasin, Palembang, and Singapore - Japanese; Batavia and Padang - British; Surabaya - American. The Japanese still control the Phillipines, Guam, and the other island cities.
The Americans captured Taipei briefly (captured it Week 4, 1942, lost it back Week 7, 1942), and the US has captured Kushiro, in northern Japan, twice now (Week 16 1942; Japanese re-capture Week 23; US re-takes it Week 26, loses it back to Japan Week 33.)
In India/Burma, the Japanese captured Mandalay, Dacca, Cherraunji, and Calcutta in Weeks 6 and 7 1942, but the British recaptured in Week 15 (Dacca and Calcutta), Week 19 (Cherrapunji), and Week 22 (Mandalay).

In Africa, the Italians have been kicked out. The British captured Tobruk (Week 22 1941) and Addis Abbaba (Week 5, 1952). I captured Stanleyville from the Italians in Week 28, 1942.

Mediterranean situation -
I captured Palermo in Week 35, 1941.
Weeks 36 and 37 - Italians and Germans declare war on Yugoslavia; Germany eliminates Yugoslavia by taking Zagreb, Dubrovnik, and Belgrade, during Weeks 36 and 37, 1941.
Week 47, 1941 was very eventful - the British razed Rimini AND captured Zagreb and Belgrade from the Germans!
Week 48 - British take Naples; British raze Taranto
Week 49 - Germans re-take Zagreb and Belgrade from the British
Week 51 - Germans re-take Naples from British

Soviet Union
Norway-Denmark declared war on the Soviets in Week 34, 1941, and the Soviets declared war on the Axis (starting with Japan, oddly enough) in Week 36, 1941.
The Soviets lost nothing, and captured Oslo (Week 35); Kemijarvi and Tornio (Finland; Week 36); Hammerfest (Week 47); Narvik (Week 49); and Trondheim (Week 49).
The Soviets signed a peace treaty with the Axis in Week 43, 1941, and with Norway-Denmark in Week 4, 1942.

The German attacks on France have slowed WAY, WAY down - where I was seeing stacks of 6 Panzer's at a time move into position to attack Verdun or Lille almost each turn, I now see 1 Panzer IIIg, 1 German infantry, or 1 German motorized infantry, maybe every 3 or 4 turns. The Luftwaffe HAS become more active lately, however - I count 10-14 bombing runs each turn, concentrated on Marseilles and Verdun, with an occasional sortie against Brest.
My espionage tells me the Italians have only iron, coal, and horses, so there are almost no Italian attacks against my southern cities. The Germans have sent 1 Romanian infantry and 1 German infantry from Naples toward Palermo, but they were both redlined by British naval gunfire, and I easily finished them off with my armor.

My strategy now is to continue to build armor in France, and move against the Italians at Torino, and maybe against the Germans at Antwerp. I also need to strengthen my defenses in Palermo, in anticipation of a meaningful German counterattack.
I continue to build the infrastructure as much as possible in Africa (factories and off-shore platforms; workers building roads and mines), with an eye toward using African forces in Palermo, and maybe later for an assault on Naples.

More to come!

Week 26, 1940 - London troops still too strong, lost many tanks with nothing to show for; will attempt to take next turn. Britain making really good use of its artillery."
tom2050

That is seldom reported.
Most of the time AI will not use artillery in a relevant way.
Rocoteh

I have never seen the AI do what it did in this circumstance. My stack was in front of London, and Britain first bombed my stack with a few bombers, then used its artillery from London on my troops/and on my ships. Then they rolled in 4 more artillery pieces from Portsmouth and bombarded my troops and protected the artillery with 4 infantry. And then attacked my stack with several tanks. That is precisely the type of move I would make! ha! If they would have used all of their bombers on my troops, they probably would have done quite a bit more damage.

The AI definitely uses its artillery more actively on SID difficulty compared to others (or it may be the fact that the game is on Most Aggressive).

tom2050,

Thank you for the report.

"Germany - SID difficulty, AI most aggressive, no workers (clean pollution only), ironman rules (no reloads)

Will have to temporarily stall assault on the remaining cities of the British homeland, my forces are insufficient."
tom2050

An early war with Soviet is always a problem and this is on a very high AI level.

"Week 36, 1940 - Caught Brazil attempting to plant a spy.
5 German 88's will be able to reach these cities next turn, if I can hold out."
tom2050

188!!
This will not be easy.

"Week 38, 1940 - The majority of the Soviet mass near Budapest has moved towards Vienna instead of attacking.
Took out about 40+ armor pieces."
tom2050

One could think Soviet AI is producing armor only.

"Week 40, 1940 - The stack(s) of death (there is quite a few a them!) are moving inward toward Graz. Did as much damage as possible then signed a peace treaty with Soviet Russia (and my allies did as well). Hopefully it is kept long enough for me to fortify the whole border. I signed a right of passage in haste with Soviet, which I should not have done"
tom2050

However I think it was correct decision to sign a peace treaty.
To continue the war would probably not have been a good idea.

"Week 41, 1940 - Took Trondheim (Norway-Denmark).
Current US strength: 87 subs/ships, 4 carriers, 10 transports, 33 artillery, 419 infantry, 81 fighters/bombers, 178 tanks."
tom2050

An impressing force.
For some time Soviet will probably be the main problem though.

Thank you and welcome back.

Andreas68,

Thank you for the report.

"Week 21 to Week 28, 1944

Playing as Germany on medium difficulty.

Africa

Took Dodoma, Dakar, Mao and Stanleyville, am now attacking British Kano and Belgian Kamina. Spotted a stack of 5 US M2A2 tanks on the French/British border between Lagos and Brazzaville, but since they can't move in jungle terrain, they are no threat at all and something to be dealt with later.

I also landed a 9 infantry 1 artillery invasion force on the east coast of Madagascar"
Andreas68

You will probably soon control Africa.

"India

All the former British colony of India is conquered, except Rangoon in the East and Madurai on the southern tip, but both are now under attack. Japan sent 2 Yamato battleships, a cruiser and a transport to Colombo, and took the island."
Andreas68

A surprise!

"The East

Handed Amoy over to Japan, as I now conquered Hongkong, where my small expeditionary force, reinforced by 2 Panzergrenadiers, now sits and rests before I advance into French Indo-China. Japan is really speeding up it's efforts, now conquered Chinese Liuzhou and Nanning, attacking Kunming now. The Japanese Air Force bombs Hanoi with Betty's, Kate's and Aichi Val's. I hope to get to Hanoi before Japan does. In the north, it seems there's no fighting on Asian mainland between Russia and Japan, or at least none with any results - no city changed hands in the entire war, except 2 cities which have been destroyed early in the war, Ulan Bator and Yenan."
Andreas68

Very seldom will Japan AI make a major effort in the Pacific.

"Russia

Took Satarino, Ustrem, Krasnojarsk and Dzag, and handed Novvy Port over to Finland. There's not much action there yet, Russia ceased to send any attacking forces, and I am slowly advancing towards Irkutsk."
Andreas68

Russia should not be a problem anymore.

"America

I still manage to keep numbers of the US airfoirce low, it's now at 3 P-51, 5 P-47, 6 B-17, 4 B-24 Liberators (which, I suppose, sit in Hokkaido) and about 15 Wildcats and some Buffalos"
Andreas68

Agree. The Superfortress is very strong unit.
Hopefully US AI will not be able to build many of them though.

"Pacific

Fierce fighting around Kushiro on Hokkaido between US forces and Japan. The US has a couple tanks there and attack Sapporo, then the battle turns and Japan attacks Kushiro. It's not decided yet, but if the US can't reinforce, I suspect Japan will be able to wear down the invading forces. Russia also involves itself into this fight, the one remaining Pe-8 bomber it has got bombs Japanese ships."
Andreas68

I think Japan will win this battle.
AI has severe problems when it comes to transocean campaigns.

"One interesting thing I noticed, a bombing run on Ottawa with a Ju-488 bomber destroyed... the Ottawa wonder! Never saw this happening before."
Andreas68

What I can remember destruction of wonders as a result of air-raids
have not been reported earlier.

Thank you and welcome back.

Rocoteh

somdnole,

Thank you for the report.

"Rocoteh -
An update on my Regent game, as France - up to Week 33, 1942

SURPRISE TO ME - I am still holding all of France - I've lost no European or African French cities. I did lose Hanoi to the Japanese in Week 17, 1941."
somdnole

A very good result!

"The Japanese have taken all Chinese cities except Chengdu, and have eliminated the Dutch (took the last Dutch city, Surabaya, in Week 4, 1942).
In India/Burma, the Japanese captured Mandalay, Dacca, Cherraunji, and Calcutta in Weeks 6 and 7 1942, but the British recaptured in Week 15 (Dacca and Calcutta), Week 19 (Cherrapunji), and Week 22 (Mandalay)."
somdnole

Rather good play from AI in this area it seems.

"In Africa, the Italians have been kicked out.

Week 51 - Germans re-take Naples from British"
somdnole

British forces operating in Yugoslavia.
That is not common when AI controls Britain.

"Soviet Union
Norway-Denmark declared war on the Soviets in Week 34, 1941, and the Soviets declared war on the Axis (starting with Japan, oddly enough) in Week 36, 1941.
The Soviets lost nothing, and captured Oslo (Week 35); Kemijarvi and Tornio (Finland; Week 36); Hammerfest (Week 47); Narvik (Week 49); and Trondheim (Week 49).
The Soviets signed a peace treaty with the Axis in Week 43, 1941, and with Norway-Denmark in Week 4, 1942."
somdnole

Minor powers that declares war on major powers without any reason
that is for sure a problem with AI.

"The German attacks on France have slowed WAY, WAY down - where I was seeing stacks of 6 Panzer's at a time move into position to attack Verdun or Lille almost each turn, I now see 1 Panzer IIIg, 1 German infantry, or 1 German motorized infantry, maybe every 3 or 4 turns.
The Germans have sent 1 Romanian infantry and 1 German infantry from Naples toward Palermo, but they were both redlined by British naval gunfire, and I easily finished them off with my armor."
somdnole

The strong German airforce can be a problem later on in the playtest.
Very postive that you have managed to achieve a deadlock on the ground though.

"My strategy now is to continue to build armor in France, and move against the Italians at Torino, and maybe against the Germans at Antwerp. I also need to strengthen my defenses in Palermo, in anticipation of a meaningful German counterattack.
I continue to build the infrastructure as much as possible in Africa (factories and off-shore platforms; workers building roads and mines), with an eye toward using African forces in Palermo, and maybe later for an assault on Naples.

somdnole

I think its a very good idea to launch an offensive in Italy.

Thank you and welcome back.

I think the aggression-level is most important although the very high level
of difficulty also must be a reason.

Germany - SID difficulty, AI most aggressive, no workers (clean pollution only), ironman rules (no reloads)

Week 45, 1940 - Moving naval forces down through Suez canal to assist Japanese navy.
Week 46, 1940 - Caught Portugal attempting to plant a spy. Britain takes Mogadishu (Italy). First British Crusader (Sea 1942) appears. Took Leicester (Britain). Bringing forces down to destroy major French presence in Africa.
Week 47, 1940 - 3 US Battleship C2s and transports facing off against 2 BismarckC's, 2
Deutschlands, and several Uboats in midatlantic.
Week 48, 1940 - Took Manchester (Britain). Japan takes Chungking (Chinese). 2 US Battleship C2s sunk at a cost of several Uboats.
Week 49, 1940 - Japan takes Kunming (Chinese). Took Port Sudan (Britain). Took Leeds (Britain). My 3 Paratroopers assaulting Belfast, expected to take next turn. My Africa Panzer Divisions at Port Sudan have reached the Italian cities at Addis Abeda and have destroyed most of the British infantry assaulting the city. 12 Elite Panzers grouping at Tripoli to launch assault on French cities starting with Tunis.
Week 50, 1940 - Britain takes Caluula (Italy). Took Edinburgh (Britain) at loss of 4 panzers. Paratroopers unable to take Belfast yet. Remaining US Battleship C2 sunk in Atlantic. Large group of US subs spotted near Bordeaux.
Week 51, 1940 - Took Belfast (Britain). Took Glasgow (Britian) at heavy losses, 7 tanks and several infantry. Britain homeland defeated, turning attention to Scapa Flow and Dublin.
Week 52, 1940 - Took Tunis (French). Took In Salah (French). Would like to plant spy in Soviet Russia, but do not want to precipitate a war at this time if unsuccessful.
Week 1, 1941 - Japan takes Lhasa (Chinese). Took Caluula (Britain). Took Kirkuk (Britain). Lost 3 Ju-88's over Scapa Flow to SAM's (???SAMs shouldn't exist in WWII, ha!), so directed bombing over to Dublin. Ju-87s made short work of Dublin defenses. Italian transport just pulled up right next to Dublin, and I also landed 5 tanks next to the city. Beginning bombing of Malta with Ju-87's from Tunis.
Week 2, 1941 - Took Dublin (Britain). Took Algiers (French). Invesitigation of Scapa Flow shows that it has an Anti-Aircraft Battery built in the city, I don't think that is right (the game doesn't allow AA Batteries to be built in WWII Global, to my knowledge), and it never misses, every aircraft I sent over got shot down, so I will just rely on naval bombardment.
Week 4, 1941 - Fortress on Malta destroyed.
Week 5, 1941 - Transport arrives at Scapa Flow and infantry take out 6 defenders after naval bombardment softened the defenses. My naval forces arriving near Singapore.
Week 6, 1941 - All defenders at Malta have been destroyed, hopefully Italy has a transport nearby. Took Scapa Flow (Britain). Took Casablanca (French). 2 Japanese
YamatoC's spotted near Batavia.
Week 7, 1941 - Took Bagdad (Britain). Japan takes Saigon (French). Japan takes and razes Chengdu (Chinese). Planted spy in Japan. Planted spy in Soviet Russia (got lucky!). First Panzer IIIh's roll out of production!

NOTE: infantry does not include fortresses, special fortresses, or garrisons.
My current strength: 80 subs/ships, 0 carriers, 3 transports, 11 artillery, 259 infantry, 78 fighters/bombers, 78 tanks.
Current US strength: 31 subs/ships, 5 carriers, 12 transports, 34 artillery, 474 infantry, 78 fighters/bombers, 295 tanks.
Current Japanese strength: 54 ships/no subs! (43 are YamatoC's!!!), 3 carriers, 8 transports, 11 artillery, 264 infantry, 74 fighters/bombers, 99 tanks.
Current Soviet strength: 144 subs/ships, 5 carriers, 22 transports, 79 artillery, 610 infantry, 132 fighters/bombers, 643 tanks!!!!

tom2050

It seems like Britain AI seldom will produce heavy bombers.

"Week 47, 1940 - 3 US Battleship C2s and transports facing off against 2 BismarckC's, 2

tom2050

A major victory.
It will be interesting to hear what your next focus will be.
Maybe its time to strike against Soviet.

"Week 52, 1940 - Took Tunis (French). Took In Salah (French). Would like to plant spy in Soviet Russia, but do not want to precipitate a war at this time if unsuccessful.

Consider it as large number of AA-guns.

tom2050

AA Batteries can not be built in WW2-Global but there is a AA-battery in
Scapa Flow at start.

"Week 4, 1941 - Fortress on Malta destroyed.
Week 5, 1941 - Transport arrives at Scapa Flow and infantry take out 6 defenders after naval bombardment softened the defenses. My naval forces arriving near Singapore.

The spy in Soviet should be of great value.

tom2050

643 tank units!
This will not be easy.
With regard to production I would consider to focus on Ju-87 units.

This will be a real challenge!
Really looking forward to hear how it turns out.

Thank you and welcome back.

To Rocotec and his assistants:

I would like to both ask a question. And make a comment on the TO&E of the US Navy, in WW2 Global. First of all, I do have the 2.5 version and all the current changes that I know of. My question is why is there a large number of the WW 1 Destroyers? There had been a total of 285 of the Caldwell class ordered. These would be the remembered "flushed decked" and " 4 pipers" that are talked about. If you deduct the Canceled, Scrapped, Converted, Lend Lease, and Non-War Losses. You would only have 71 ships ready for the game. Where as there are 140 ready for the game. Is there a specific gaming reason for this? I would also like to ask why you are short one Brooklyn Class light crusier? This would be a type 2 CL in the game. The Helena was the last of the class and was commissioned the same week as the war started in Poland. You have the right number of the CL's for the Omaha's. But would be one short of the CL2"s for the Brooklyn's.

I would like to say that you have done a good job as far as anything else for the navy is concerned. The Wasp and Hornet were not commissioned until after the war started. I have counted 61 1939 Destroyers by that time. VS the 59 you have listed. So I can be off. The Sims, Benson, and Livermore's would be the 1939 Class and would be after the war started. The 1941 class would be the Fletcher's. Sumner's and Gearing's. You have 105 submarine's listed. Where I count 100. Again I could be wrong. You have the right Battleships and Heavy Cruisers. Though some are not in the right oceans for the start of the game. But again that is a minor thing.

In case you have not notice. I am big on the Naval operations for WW2 and WW1. I think that you have done a great job for the other nations as well. If you could give me an explanation as to the reason for the count for the Destroyers. I would be grateful. I love to give all my ships their respective names in my games. I have an extensive collection of books that help me with that. So if you would like ......I could provide them for you.

RKP,

Only ships that was available (active or in reserve) September 1 1939
have been included in the Order of Battle.

Note that sources often will state different dates of commission
for WW2 ships.

With regard to the WW1 Destroyers those transfered to Britain as Lend Lease
have been included in the US Order of Battle.
The reason is that this took place after the outbreak of WW2.
WW1 Destroyers later reclassed have not been excluded.

Rocoteh

Thank You Rocoteh:

I had a feeling that is what you had done with the Destroyers. I take it then that you adhere strongly to the date of September 1,1939. For what ships are or are not included for the war. Thats a good. Must say I am enjoying this game very much. I have several board games that simulate the entire war. But it is nice to just fire up the computer and play with the AI on this.

Russ

I always have to laugh when it says: Germany has destroyed the Poles :D
