WWII Europe: Small, Fast & Beautiful

I wonder if anybody can help me. I downloaded and installed this scenario, but when I start it up, I go to the country/difficulty level select screen, put in my choices, and the scenario starts to load up, but right before the loading bar is complete (I can already see the info window in the lower right and the empty minimap, but the main map is still black) it freezes up and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del out of Civ3. Anybody know why this might happen?

Help would be greatly appreciated, I really wanna play this.

My question is that you are SURE it freezes? Did you give it enough time?

Try replacing the 'PedialIcons.txt' in the scenario by the one I uploaded in post #193 and it might help.

I have a question... You have listed that this is for version 2.0+ and the last update I was aware of was 1.22 What am I missing?

I think I did give enough time, because if I hit ctrl-alt-del, C3 shows up as "not responding." How much time should I give it, possibly?

I will try what you suggest, thanks.

Civ III always says it is "not responding" when you look at it in the task manager. That is, when it is loading a scenairo

But I believe I have loading times in the 1st page. With a decent computer the loading takes a few mins, max. If you have a PC that can barely play civ, it might take up to 10 minutes, but IIRC it took my 800MHz about 5mins to load up.

Nice lil mod ya got Paasky. I see you can't get any rest from making mods in CIV land when your always being pulled over here to take care of the civ3 baby. Will ya ever come back and properly support her needs?!! :shake: How bout a sequal? Arn't you tired of Seasame Civving around yet? ;)

Add: Jeez you don't know me I better add that im kidding not nagging you. Sorry n have fun in CIV land. Make it better for when I get there!. oh, back to the mod , it runs fine for me btw, thanks.

Is WWIIESF&B still available for Civ3? When we try to download it, we get this error message: Sivua ei löytynyt. Tästä pääset etusivulle.

Thanks,

Hamiltonian

Why is there no U.S?

I will try to answer, as in older scenarios of civ2, America is abstracted for the sake of the map space and adding yet another huge power to have to be ground down. This is not a new concept, but just as the title says, it is Europe focused war.

Yep...been lurking since 2004! and finally posted. Why? you may ask....

Because this is my favorite mod and I'm going to tell you about why.

I've longed to have a grand strat war game for many, many years that gave me near all of the folowing:

- Fairly decent AI that could grind you down and mass for the attack and then defend in depth...can't expect to0 much more from a machine. ;)
- Graphically presents the european theatre mostly.
- Good variety of historic units and stacking of same for massed attack; and units can gain experience, even producing specials.
- The ability to wage total war: land, sea, air, diplomatic, economic, espionage, culture, even infrastucture in a detailed fashion; with detailed management control or optional ai help of all components.
- The ability to rename everything: country, leader, cities, units.
- A combat system that is fairly simple to understand, yet detailed enough to be interesting.
- A detailed and graphically pleasing map and interface.
- A simple interface to bundle all this stuff so that a child can play it.

Well.... CIV3 is that game and ESFB is that mod that makes this dream come true. Tried nearly all the grand start titles out there and they just fall so far short; Hoi 1 & 2, sc1 & 2, etc... they just look like a badly done board game for niche players who just put up with what they can get...dustbin stuff compared to civ 3, and don't even get me started how civ4 falls far short of the mark. Until someone can do what this does as simply as it does it, this is the game and the mod that will stay first place for my strat gaming choice.

:) Paasky...thankyou for making this wonderful mod. If theres any interst, I may post my aar as the Finns.

BTW, I like others have modded this mod over the years and added snoopy's terrain, etc.. I'll tell you about it if anyone wants to know.

 Look what you made me do...

Thanks a lot there. I know that almost everything I've done is always half-finished, but I think this has gone the farthest of all my mods, it's even got a semi-accurate civilopedia!

I always love to read stuff, so post away if you want to ;)

As for personal modifications, I'm sure the few people that still play this mod would like to see what you've done.

PS: I'm making this for civ4 now, and it's coming along nicely. Once BtS comes out I think I'll finally be ready for the non-beta release for it. Basically it's the original with a few historical events that guide the game towards the right direction, but none of them are absolute, so a player can easily change history. It's also got a (in my mind) much better combat system, which means tanks aren't the ultimate killing machine they are in the civ3 version. Sure they pack a punch but aren't the only forces you'll want to build ;)

I'm going to have to say this, but I personally like HoI2. It's very simple, and with the AI handling the various values of the economy let's me just reasearch, build & wage war. Only thing I don't like about it are how aircraft work. But that can be circumvented by handing them over to one of your allies as Expeditionary forces. In my current game the entire world except for South America & Australia are Fascist & allied to me. And that wrong is about to be righted ;)
