Xteam 01 - Practice Game

I can pick this up next if that is OK?

Question. Are we ready to build a third city? Will it be too adverse to our research rate?

If not, then the plan is as follows:
Const. works both plains hills, the crab and the flood plain working on a LIbrary.

Thess works both Clams and changes production to a Settler.

Worker moves to FP to build a Cottage. Then builds road between Const and Thess. adding Gold for Happy.Work Boat heads through Thess. to the south and east to scout for other civs.

Research remains Alphabet.

Sign Open Borders with Sully and scout out his area. The other Warrior checks the Banana tile and then moves back to garrison Const.

What did I miss? :)

Third city will require us to lower the science rate but it will also add beakers. If the push after Alpha is to CS then we can still grow some. Although I'm hoping we want have to build courthouses.

I hate monuments also, way too little culture and they obsolete too fast.

Goal is domination but we'll need astronomy, so we need to push the research rate.
Well monuments last longer in BTS, but they are still pretty terrible. Even the special ones like Totem Pole are not really worth it (Stele is the best of them). You would think Sitting Bull+Totems+Feudalism (slingshot) would be a great move... but its pretty poor in terms of an offensive as compared to other strategies.

In Epic speed terms, its 45 hammers invested (not to mention researching mysticism) , which is a population point. I would rather have half a granary, half a worker, or 1/3 of a library. If a strategic resource is outside your borders, build a settler to settle it in its initial 9 or throw a religion in there which is more beneficial long term.

OK, played ten turns.

Sully has built another city just north (4-tiles) of Istanbul.
Library is in.

Turn Log:
Turn 48 – 2080 BC
Sign Open Borders with Sully and move Warrior into his territory.
Other Warrior heads south, land ends in a peninsula.
Work Boat heads for Thess.
Worker heads for Flood Plain
Change citizens:
In Const., work both Plains Hills, Crab and Flood Plain.
In Thess., work both Clams and change build to a Settler.
Research changes to 90%, now making zero GPT.

IBT

Turn 49 – 2040 BC
Find Istanbul, garrisoned by two Archers and a Galley, size 6 with 20% culture. The screen shot I took doesn't show the units, don't know why it did that? But it did it with every screen shot? I attached a later screen shot of Istanbul.
Worker starts Cottage.
WB recons.

IBT

Turn 50 – 2000 BC
Units move.
Istanbul is on a peninsula, so he’ll have to settle to the north or via Galley.

IBT

Turn 51 – 1960 BC
Move units, nothing new.
Screen shot below show Power standings.

IBT

Turn 52 – 1920 BC
Const. Borders expand.
Units move, WB finds a way east.

IBT

Turn 53 – 1880 BC
Cottage completes

IBT
Barb Warrior shows up wounded and is on the Cows to the south. :hmm:

Turn 54 – 1840 BC
WB continues to move east.

IBT

Turn 55 – 1800 BC
Our Warrior move near the wounded Barb Warrior.
WB goes east.

IBT
Barb Warrior attacks and dies, we promote to CBT1.

Turn 56 – 1760 BC
Find Sully’s second city, Edirne, 4-tiles north of Istanbul. It is sited to catch the Sugar tiles.

IBT

Turn 57 – 1720 BC
Looks like WB has run out of coastal tiles to go east.

IBT

Turn 58 – 1680 BC
Const. Completes Library => Worker.

After Action Report:
Stopped here as ten turns have passed.
Set Const. to a Worker for now, no hammers in it yet. We are 5-turns from a Settler.

Question is whether we want to try to set up for a Worker steal with Sully or not?

It also looks like our WB is going no where and perhaps we should recall him and sail him in either the other direction of to the south?

Team question:

The new HOF mod was released today. Since this is a practice game and we are still early (60 turns in) do we want to patch up to the new version/mod and reroll up a start? The new mod will be the one used in the next SGOTM.

I think this is a great idea!

I can do that....:mischief:......If I'm not too busy watching the Olympics:D

The only snag is that Dynamic Spirit has not committed to BOTM09 being in 3.17 yet?

Watching and listening... :)

I don't want to create a dual install situation for anyone. I'm flexible since I haven't been playing the xOTMs (yet :mischief:).

Let see what Shannon and Killercane think.

I just cruised over to the GOTM threads and the BOTM09 pregame is up and has this announcement in it:

As indicated in the first post, this is the first BOTM to use the 3.17 patch and the 3.17.001 HOF mod.

Here's a link to that post.

It also looks like you when you patch to 3.17 w/ HOF mod that you need to load new HOF mods for Warlords and Van as well. So you need to make sure you don't have ANY active games. So this will affect more than just BOTM09.

I'm okay to apply the patch, but will wait to hear from everyone first.

OK to Patch

I'm working to complete GOTM33 tonight or tomorrow. So I should be good to patch as well.

Back at it!! :hammer:

EDIT - GOTM33 is submitted, so I'm ready for upgrade! :D

ok to patch. no active games right now.

Made another save, same settings as before, only in 3.17.

Almost too easy, no?

Settle in place, agriculture->mining->AH->writing->alphabet and trade for bronze while making worker at start, followed by warriors until size 3, 2 settlers, and a library? Worker can irrigate, mine, then road until AH?

Or, crafty as we may be, we can research fishing->pottery in lieu of AH (relatively similar costs) and this my friends allows an early workboat instead of warriors to size 3 for early contacts, a mine on the pigs instead of pasture gives 5 hammers towards settler instead of 6 for pasture, but makes the library faster after the two settlers. Pottery route is ideal I think if citys 2 and 3 have some food and cottageable tiles.

Almost too easy, no?
We could make another save if this one seems too easy. For you perhaps... :mischief:

While the goal is fast domination, there are also some things we need to do trials on, siege weapons, combat changes and, perhaps, corporations. This was the first, and only, random save I created. Thought it would give us some options, which you have already thought about. :goodjob:

I had to work late last night, so I need to do my patching. I'm also running Vista. But I learned a few tricks on the prior upgrades, so hopefully everything will go smoothly.
