ahhhh, to be young and idealistic again... *sigh*

But the truth is that money = power

Everything else is just an illusion (or delusion, as it were).

And to further stormbind's point, we are "free" within the confines of the rules of the society we dwell within.

Yup, I've got the power. I produce. Individuals produce... create life. We're it. Big systems like governments and corporations are runaway machines for sapping that energy and hoarding it or moving it about, transformed, sometimes to their members alone. They can't ever have powers in the class of individual powers, because they produce nothing.

I think producers should keep paying into the faceless entities. Many facilitate our aims well enough. Also, we're far too productive so we need a few useless cogs to drag us all down to this optimal level of wealth.
