Hmmm.... Ottomans, Persians, and Mayans seem to be the favorites when looking at the poll. Me, personally, I like America and the Netherlands.

By accident, I voted here, but then saw the link to the other and voted for my true favorite, the Mayan Civ. So, sorry. I voted twice.

I voted Korea. I like to be peaceful and always the tech leader. With all the money and science they produce its fairly easy to keep the lead in science, which has lead to a lot of SGLs too. They've got the same traits as greece (com/sci), but a UU that can be abused through to the end of the game :D .

Persia is my ex-favourite, i lost interest in industrious after it was toned down though. The extra money from selling my tech and from commercial lets me rush a lot of my buildings a lot faster than a few extra shields would.

PORTUGAL!!! All the exploration and expansion you'll need to become the most powerful civ on the planet!!! But they are my second favorite!!! What I really love is FRANCE!!! I don't know why! I just played as them once and liked it. So I played as them again and again and again and again and...hey! They came out with conquests! I LOVE YOU BYZANTINES AND PORTUGAL!

Sorry that was a dumb post!

Egypt!

they are Industrious (w/ fast workers and more shields...), and Religious (Just one turn anarchy, and cheap temples and cathedrals and stuff...)

and theyr UU are powerful, and comes early! It's like an Horseman, but earlier! U can defeat some enemyes very fast, and get Golden Age to do an early expansion!
IMO, it's not better then the horseman because it's earlier, but because it's 1/3rd cheaper. Now THAT helps big time. :) Except when upgrading. =x

I gave a vote to Egypt, too. I love indus+religious. :)

The first civilization I've ever played? France!! I admit, I was immediately attracted to the "industrious, commericial" label (I had no idea what they were at the time), and the fact no other civ has a female leader made it special. I didn't get around to liking the Egyptians or Germans till a long long time later.

Persia. You just can't help loving that Immortals rush (unless you have no Iron, but then you won't be doing much of anything anyway.)

Iroq; why is in the other thread ;)

I always play the Celts.
What I like most about them is the gallic swordsmen. This Unique Unit does not appear too early, and can create a GA at the time you have acquired Monarchy and have a reasonable number of cities. This is a good time for having a golden age. Your rivals at this point will usually not have better defensive units than spearmen. With a 50% more attack capability (3:2) compared to your enemies defence, you can wipe out a civilization very fast if you have enough of them. For they have a good movement rate of two. If you have a road to your enemy, your reserves won't use long time. After having defeated your enemy, you can march to your next enemy rapidly.

The second good advantage is the agricultural trait. Your base city square and irrigated deserts produce one more food. This is good for expansion and
you can with good reason build cities in an area with lots of desert tiles. When you have railroad you can for every irrigated desert tile have one mined plains tile. (Isn,t that so?). And an essential building like aqauduct cost
the half.

The third thing is the religious trait. Highly important buildings like temple and cathedral cost the half. That respectively directly makes expansion faster in most cases; and with a Sistine Chapel makes it very efficient combating unhappines. Ad it is also nice having a short period of anarchy when changing governments (you gain some valuable rounds in a game).
I would not trade that combination of traits with any to others. :D

I think the Netherlands are the perfect civ to beat Sid with.
Sid kinda needs to be played on archipellago, making seafaring pretty good.
Agricultural is without a doubt the strongest trait in civ3.
The UU is perfect for the kind of warfare you need on Sid (strong defenders to defend your trebuchets)

I am proud that my civ is the best to beat the game at the highest difficulty. Therefore i vote for us.

Russia; I can't hold onto an early tech lead with anyone else on Emp.

I'm guessing everyone likes Korea, but no one mentions the real deal, Greece?
That seems disrespectful.

I like England. The M-O-Ws allow domination of the sea towards the end of the Middle Ages, and the enslave lets me build less than I usually would to maintain domination.

It has got to be France. Not only because I have had very good games with them, but because of their awesome UU.

I never actually use it. :p It times my GA perfectly though! :D

Probably the Persians. When I first started playing Civ3, I couldn't bring myself to play a civ that didn't have the Scientific trait. Besides, of course, the UU.

I have to say French as favorite excellent traits but crappy UU, although Iroquois have good traits and a OK UU. dilemma :O

How many times do we see two one-post users post in a row? I can't believe how many people don't like the musketeer though! It is perfect, timed right when you need to build banks and universities.
