just started New Vegas, and I like it a lot. A lot of references to Fallout 2. Which makes me nostalgic for that game, so that's why I voted Fallout 2. So far New Vegas has been a bit linear. Although I suppose I could try going over to sloan way to Vegas, but I have a feeling the creatures there would be too tough. I actually tried going over some hills on the southern part of the map and these really tough dog like creatures tore me to shreds.

Does New Vegas even count as a separate game from Fallout 3?

Fallout will always be my favorite!

I have only played Fallout 3 (which was decent) and a few hours of Fallout 1 even though I own all except New Vegas (which I watched my friend play for a while and looks like a great improvement upon F3). So I voted for Fallout 1 but I think they look like that are all good games in their own right, though the series has of course changed due to whoever is making it.

The Classics (Fallout 1 & 2) were excellent, while Fallout 3 was absolute trash.

I...have not played any of them.

It seems more like a modded version of Fallout 3. In terms of plot it is completely separate, and does offer some gameplay changes from Fallout 3, but is very similar. But yes it is separate. Just don't expect major changes to gameplay. Kind of in the lines of Kotor 1 to Kotor 2 type changes.

I think that fallout one and two have better storylines. But nothing beats Fallout 3 in gameplay.

There's no huge differences in the first and the second either.

Probably Fallout 2 overall, a little bit ahead of Fallout 1; but I was really impressed by Fallout 3 as well - the plotting could have used some work and Bethesda desperately need to hire some new voice actors, but other than that I think they did a great job updating the franchise. I've heard mixed things about New Vegas though...

LOL at voice actors. They keep using the same voice actors over and over. They must have gotten a cheap deal on them. :)

this is true.

Seems like just a mission pack or expansion to me.

But it's by most standards, a bigger game than fallout 3. I'm sorry, but I just don't see where you're coming from. Why dramatically alter a winning formula? Fallout 3 was great, Fallout New Vegas is similar, but with a new map, new quests, new items, new storylines etc.

What tycoonist said. If the same standards were applied to Fallout 2 it wouldn't count as a separate game either. It's basically Fallout 1, only with a different story, new items, a tweaked engine, and some other small stuff.

Yup after playing FNV some more it is a huuuuuge game. I'm barely even getting into all the different factions you can ally with. I'm trying to be a whore and whore myself out to every faction. I am by nature a quest whore. Some factions are exclusive but as long as you aren't too hated by them you can do quests for them.

I was even able to do some quests for the Khans in Red Rock Canyon. So many faction you can team up with which will make the end game interesting. Hopefully my actions affect the ending. I will be disappointed if that does not happen. Just some of the factions you can do quests for... NCR, Caesar's Legion (haven't actually done any for these guys), Followers of the Apocalypse, Brotherhood of Steel, Great Khans, the guys at Gamorrah Casino (you have your choice who to support), Yes man (I won't spoil his part in this), Head dude at Lucky 38 (I won't spoil his name), and then you have various towns and settlements you can do quests for and they all have their individual reputations. You might even be able to do quests for the Powder Gangers, I haven't tried.

This is a full game, make no mistake. It doesn't make radical changes to the system a la Civ3 to Civ4 or Civ4 to Civ5, but by RPG standards, it's an entirely new full game.
