Your greatest fears

I would say AI but I already have a feeling it's going to suck. In fact in all of the press I've read concerning the game all that is discussed are the 'districts' and the 'streamlining' of the graphics. Nothing about a mind-blowing new AI and that leads me to believe that good ol'cheating will be the AI we get...

Anyways... what else?

1. It's a base game that is worthless without buying expansions/DLC.

2. Leaders still wear the same clothes throughout thousands of years.

3. The game becomes overly concerned with the 'districts' concept destroying the feeling of running an empire.

4. Nuclear weapons are even nerfed even further or removed altogether.

And one of my small fears has been realized...

Not sure if this has been posted but...

Civ VI will only have 18 leaders (Same as ciV). Not small but to me this means that they're going down the 'base game stripped so we can sell expansions' route.

You're not implying that the base game will be worthless without DLC/expansion, because there will be (only?) 18 civs, surely? From what we've seen, vanilla Civ VI will be fuller than what was Civ V at release.

Meanwhile, my only fear is that Joan of Arc will be leading France instead of Louis.

:crazyeye:

Actually, there will be four additional DLCs for those who buy it, so there might be 22 civs before any expansion appears.

Louis? What makes anyone think that fearful Napoleon won't be in again?

I think that's because the majority of warfare is conducted on land in real life and in gaming, so naval units tend to get neglected. It's kinda funny and sad at the same time that some of the best naval combat you will see in games comes from sci-fi games that treat space like a giant ocean and portray space combat as if it were naval warfare.

That would be ignoring the fact that naval power was a big deal, and to some extent still is. Otherwise, you would not have nations like China and India trying to build carriers to project their sphere of influence.

Warfare aside, there is a lot that the naval side of a civilization has done to define them. We're basically missing a huge part of history. We get all this tech that revolves around ships, I would like to see it actually be more interesting against the AI for once.

Giant death robot. Superfluous unit included for the sake of fan service. Hopefully the fans have been appeased enough. If the GDR is included in VI, and we're going to abandon all vestiges of realism to enter fantasy land, give us an Ewok unit to counter it.

I believe he's implying that civ5 was worthless without it's expansions. Which, therefore, creates an adequate fear that the next iteration in the series could suffer the same fate.

Anyways, I can see no reason to think it could be a bad game. At the moment, we have a lot to think it will be good, maybe the best civ game.

My fear is that the AI will be dissapointing as in Civ 5.

In slightly happier news from the German magazine it seems they're implementing behavior tree behavior versus utility based ai for combat so it might be smarter this time :D

Behavior trees are good approach and fit strategical AI nicely. They work poor with geo-based tasks, though. So if we have improvements in tactical AI, they are in other areas :)

My greatest fear is Great Generals working like in Civ5, doing cultureboms. I can imagine the effect being even more catasrophic now with the district system as well. Unfortunatly an article has mentioned that GG's will work as in Civ5....

The giant death robot was enough to turn me off Civ V.
My last Civ was IV.

Wait, wait, wait, wait a second.

You are a Civ Fanatic, joined in 2007, and have spent the last 6 years without even trying Civilization V because of a late-game unit that can only appear (and in fact, normally doesn't) when the game is already over?

I chuckled at that too. I think I have seen the GDR and XCOM Trooper maybe a handful of times ever. It's so rare I almost forget they are even there. Heck, and once of those was in MP with buddies messing about.

I don't think I ever even used the XCOm Trooper, and only seen GDR in vanilla game.

the "largest" map, not being large enough....

In Civ4/5 I like to create modern/present year scenarios using the largest Earth map available and placing cities/borders in their real world locations.
Yeah Europe or small countries like Japan/Korea used to be crowded but I still had enough space to place 3-4 cities for most Civs (sorry Netherlands).

My fear in Civ6 is that with the new districs system cities will occupy a lot more ground than in previous games. If Earth maps are not big enough to acomodate that, I could find myself i.e: only being able to place 2 cities max in Japan or Korea landmass because you need the tiles

The Districts concerns above are echoing with me. What even are single tile islands going to be good for, other than an Oil platform? Idk, maybe there'll be a late game tech that'll enable oceanic Districts so an island can be something more than a whaling village...

I hated the idea of both being included in V. They were rare, as most games were over by then, but I did have a handful of good late games ruined when the AI started building them. I would just end the game no matter what when they were built.

Fortunately I found a mod that removed both of them. Problem was solved then. Still, every second wasted developing both those units could have been better spent elsewhere.

My greatest fears:

1. Atrocious AI.
2. Less realistic mechanic for civilisation advances.
3. Even more dumbing down of technologies and how they happened\work.
4. Ideologies that are a far cry from the real thing.
5. Politics that really are not.
6. Watered down spies, spie mechanics and what they should be able to do.
7. Cartoony graphics adding even more to the dumbing down feel (already happening).
8. Leaders that are not authentic\realistic but more chosen because `different` or `theoretical` which I suspect is already happening.
9. Just one leader per Civ. I liked in Civ 4 how you had a choice of 2.
10. Bad warfare mechanics that don`t work like in reality.
11. Bad civilian city mechanics that don`t work like in reality (people getting happier the more cities you lose to the enemy).
12. Giant Death Robot or Xcom units or anything similar like that- Very stupid.
13. Not moddable.
14. No random events such as bad weather, earthquakes, etc, accidents that real nations have to deal with sometimes.
15. Insta-ship armies.

A small island with airfield is like an aircraft carrier which cannot be sunk ... think of Midway 1942 ...

For what I'm getting from notes and videos is, you'd need a 2 tile island for that (1 for the city centre + 1 free tile you turn into the airport distric). So it seems like all 1 tile island-citis will have are several harbour districs.
