Your opinion on pot smokers?

It is a stereotype that Pot Smokers are lazy welfare bums who do nothing but get high. I do know a couple of those people, who live in public housing and still buy their eighth every week.

But at the same time there are those who only do it a couple of times a month/year and enjoy very successful lives.

I have never met one that smokes constantly and was able to hold a job or make something of themselves. But I also live in Southern Illinois, theres not much to do down here.

The stereotype of pot smokers as dreadlocked languid hippies is a pretty bad one. Weed smokers have just as diverse a demographic as anyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if the corporate yuppie blazed a joint or two every month.

I view pot smokers as anyother person. I know a few that are quite charming, and some that are jagoffs. Its just like any other demographic really.

Its unfortunate that pot is illegal, because people will always use it, and its not that harmful. I personally will probably not use pot, but I digress.

I don't like drugs of any kind and I won't have them in me. I'd say pot is better than alcohol or cigarettes, but I wouldn't have anything to do with them. It just seems lazy to rely on a substance for an artificial happiness, and I like being in control of myself. Also, I am way too cheap to spend money on pot. That's probably my best defense.

Don't have much of an opinion really. There were plenty of kids during my university days who smoked in the john. They were courteous and would offer the joint to us when we walk in on them. We'd politely decline and walk out after finishing our business. As if everything was normal. Oh and we never ratted on them either. It was a "live and let live" arrangement. They don't force their habit on us, we don't report them to the authorities.

Sounds shallow but you have to remember I eventually developed a real pet peeve about all kinds of drugs, on account of later having seen firsthand the devastation that addiction does to both individuals and society.

I think pot smoking is really dumb. It can mess up your health and your head (in the long term) and in the short term can impair your mind, which has potentially serious consequences. I consider it to be immoral. I make it a practice not to look down on people if I can help myself, but I think that they are making a big mistake.

Nonetheless, I think pot should be legalized. It is not as bad for society as alcohol, and we tried criminalizing that - doesn't work. We would save a lot of money on enforcement, it would reduce crime a little, and anyways the only ones they are hurting, usually, are themselves. Government should be protecting us from other people, not from ourselves.

I don't mind them. They don't damage my health the way cigarette smokers do. I wish the government would just legalize it, and tax it as much as they can get away with, as well as having very high fines for those who are caught growing it without a permit.

It's the 'buying drugs from drug dealers' that mostly bothers me. Around here, it's the Hell's Angels that own most of the market. Unless you know the grower, you might be buying from a gang. And those bastards do not deserve any succor

I agree with that. I also think that's a reason to legalise it. Although there's plenty of legal things to do and legal businesses to support that also help fund organised crime like that.

They knowingly contribute to the War on Drugs, thus increasing our tax burdens. In that way, they're like a smoker in a nationalised health care system - their vice costs me extra

"The War on Drugs" <tm> looks like an incredibly large waste of money to me, and I see the outspoken right wing groups contributing a lot more towards prolongng it and wasting your tax dollars than what someone smoking a couple of joints a week does.

As for me, I have no problem with pot smokers. I have problems with housemates who spend rent & bill money on pot, alcohol, and anything else, but of all the housemates I'e had who occasionally or regularly smoked pot, there have been only 2 cause problems with rent.

Generally speaking, potheads are just little freaking worthless retards who are only potheads becasue they think it's cool.

Yes opium wars over drugs and that was to keep using them(another brilliant military triumph for England ) We were addicted, then we found out about tea got addicted to that and fought wars over that too. Marijuana is not legal in England but if you are found in possesion of small amounts you will not be arrested, merely cautioned, the law is fairly lax.

Class A: Heroin/opiates,cocaine,crack,speed,LSD

Class B: amphetamines,codeine(opiate derivative)

Class C: Marijuana, valium, steroids

I do wish people would stop lumping in marijuana with crack.

FYI: smoking kills 106000 people per year in the UK. about 60 million per year world wide.
heroin: about a thousand in the UK
Marijuana: hard to directly link but if yout eat it or don't use tobacco(bong or whatever) about 0 in the UK.

EDIT: here's deaths atributable to cannabis in the US. (1979-1998), the CDC ascribed a total of 23 fatalities attributable to cannabis &#8212; 1.15 per year

By the way I don't smoke Cannabis so you can take me as pretty much impartial, I'm certainly not stupid enough to condemn it because some law tells me too, when people are dropping like flies due to smoking and alcahol, I've yet to see someone fly into a rage and stab someone sixteen times after smoking too much pot also.

But, as they say (and awfully misquoted) - "I might not like what you do, but I will stand up for your right to do it." (within reason : I'll stand for their right to smoke pot in private, or in separate rooms, the same as with normal smoking).

I will not, however, stand for pot (or any other drug, or alcohool) being used as a mitigating factor for your action. If you harm someone because you were too stoned/drunk to think otherwise, then it's your own damn fault for being too dumb to know when to stop with pot et al, and you shoudl be punished as if you had been perfectly conscious when you comitted the crime.
