Zohran Mamdani

Are there enough Republicans in NYC who care about that sort of thing? A quick skim of Wikipedia says they're 10.2% of registered voters. There's a chance Cuomo might cobble together a plurality of some sort, but more likely it's just a question of whether Mamdani clears 50%.

I'd say based on the polling as of now there are enough to where it could be decisive, but by no means guaranteed.

With how high the turnout was during early voting and those voters lean younger which are Mamdini's biggest core block I wouldn't be shocked if he's already outright won. That it's mathematically impossible for ether remaining candidate to get a plurality

I'm not even sure what to make of this.

President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Andrew Cuomo on Monday while threatening to withhold federal funding from New York City if Zohran Mamdani, who he labeled a "Communist", wins the mayoral election.

This kind of funding cut threat seemed to work in Argentina recently. (USA interfered with a foreign election!)

I don't think Cuomo wants Trump's endorsement tonight.

Shouldn't Trump endorse the Republican?
Or is that guy not grabby enough?

This final hour endorsement is chasing pennies in front of a train though.
No way Mamdani loses this thing.

Part of me has to like Curtis Sliwa because he is the perfect combination of classic New Yorker and Professional Crazy Person.

Here is the day's final push.

1) New York Attorney General James joined Mamdani by walking across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan to give a speech in front of City Hall.
'Our Time Is Now' slightly echoes John Cena's "Your Time Is Up, My Time Is Now" pro wrestling theme song, but I'll tip my hat to the socialists on this one.
The cost of living crisis is real.

2) Cuomo rallied in Washington Heights (northern part of Manhatten)

3) Sliwa the republican laid a wreathe for a woman who was burned alive on the subway.
Sliwa founded the Guardian Angels in 1979.
The Guardian Angels is a nonprofit organization dedicated to crime prevention and community safety, known for its distinctive red berets and community patrols.

Heh

Trump still trying to move the needle.

“We must also remember this — A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani,” Trump wrote in a Monday Truth Social post urging voters to bypass Sliwa, the Republican nominee. “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”

Maybe this line would have helped over 30 days of banging on the drum, but not at the last minute.

Poor Sliwa!
He was wearing a raspberry beret before it was a Prince song.
No respect from POTUS.

Is this a good or a bad sign?

The big deal is that it’s awesome.

Do you still trust Bernie Sanders? Either the DNC has some leverage on him, or he just folds easily.
On what basis? I don’t think he has gone out anymore of his way to jettison beliefs that would be an anathema to voters than any other politician has.

As far as his lost primaries go, he lost them I think relatively fairly—the parties are not strictly bound to being neutral observers: of all people, Clinton who won ‘16 would know this as the party establishment went to Obama.

If you say so. They did go pretty McCarthy on Bernie in 2016, it was quite a kick-the-dog moment. Good thing Bernie has nowhere else to go, nor do his voters.
