Все на пол, ОМОН!!
FINALLY!!! After weeks of hard work (boosted dramatically with GFO_Anubis's help) 2.0v of the Russian Specnaz!
Uniforms - BF2SF
Use - you can use it as regular modern units in game for Russia.
Why - Im using them so just because BF2 inspired me so (who played - knows).
Фeauters - new, realistic helmets, AK-74 (101?), updated graphics
It's a choise of your taste.

It was very tough to do so I really expect some feedback :D:D:D
Comment and rate, не то 100 нарядов вне очереди

Holy cr.p!!! That's a beatiful unit!!!

They are looking great, although I am not a specialist for russian special units.

In this case the sky-mask is more then okay, since this is no regular unit, but a special unit. If you keep producing units like that, you could start a mod one day that adds special forces as additional unit to the game with unique graphics for every civ.

They still are the Marine, Paratrooper, AT and SAM Infantry units (and not 'just' a single spec-ops unit), exactly like the other modern unit packs from Zerver, so I guess that is what they will be used as the most. Even Zerver says so :

I for one would prefer a skimask-free version, same as with the hungarian units :please:

Some technical advice, if I might. ;)

1) Large textures usually create lots of shimmering on units in-game. To avoid this, save with mipmaps (you might want to configure the mipmaps to be generated a bit sharpened, though, there is such an option).

2) Large textures take lots of video memory. To radically reduce the impact of size, you may want to discard the alpha channel when it's not in use (which is the case with these units).

3) Overall, 1024x1024 textures on Civ units look like an overkill to me. I don't think any in-game details will be lost if it is resaved in 512x512 or even 256x256 (but if you do the downsizing, be sure to apply unsharp mask afterwards).

Disregarding the above, I must say that these are by far the best units you've produced. Very good job. :goodjob:

A little note. ;)

Zerver very providently let us know about ОМОН (OMON) - отряды милиции особого назначения. :) This equipment is equipment of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (министерство внутренних дел, МВД (MVD)) Special forces - внутренние войска МВД (ВВ МВД, internal troops of MVD). But such soldiers are looking appropriately for modern Battlefield too, in Chechnya for example.

А вообще, приятно, что тут наших пацанов, оказывается, гораздо больше, чем у нас, в разделе Civ 3. :D Кто б таких ВВшников для Civ 3 сделал бы... :mischief:

I agreed with Walter, these are the best units you've produced!

When are you going to release your mod?

Absolutley great:eek:
The uniforms look just like russ soldiers i saw on tv,great!!!
I wreally hope that french modern force will be next, couse no one didnt do enything about france for long time, the last I know was bal sidro france modern inf :mischief:
pozdrav!!!

@mamba: For the hungarian modern units I think you are right, but in this case I still think the mask is okay. Sure, it will be mostly used as marine etc., but...
1) that depends on the user (the modder in this case) since he has to decide which graphics he likes to use for which unit and also if he creates a totally new unit or one that replaces an existing one (for example spies that get more capabilities* or marine).
2) the unit he was inspired by probably also wears sky-masks. It would be something different if he would have called the package "russian modern units", but it's Specnaz.

*I actually rarely build spies. Maybe I just don't know how to use them correctly, but so far they weren't really useful. I rather spend my money on more powerful units.

I still would like a ski-mask free version, as is I am undecided whether to replace the old version with the new one in my mod ;)

In any case, I just created some smaller textures, for whoever wants them.

Zerver, how is your future mod coming along ?

About what the mod are you people talking about?

****
The size of the texture you can use depends of your machine's abilities. You may use smaller textures, but you SHOULD try the big one, first. Mayebe itll go.

UK's is next

Enjoy :)

Looks cool. Is it possible to lighten the skins up a bit? I know they are special ops, but it is hard to see the details at civ-level and the skins take up alot of memory.

There's always a limit to what can really be discerned. These textures would look fine even if a unit had a full-screen height; but there are no instances in Civ when we can see a unit this way. Basically, all the details that are added above 512x512 are wasted, since nobody will ever see them unless they open the unit in an editor. Also, large textures cause shimmering. I don't think there's any other unit currently posted on CFC that has 1024x1024 textures. You'll even be hard-pressed to find 512x512. That's basically because those sizes of textures have no point for Civ units - they might look well on leaderheads, for example.

Ahhhhhh! I thought you wanted me to make a specforce mod.
Well, actually the mod is under hard work, slow, but true progress.
I just need more modellers, but only asiox3 and The_Coyote (uhh I hate call my best unit-maker a coyote!) can help yet.
Maybe I have to create a dedicated ZPNxtWar thread...
