This is actually an idea I've been toying with for a while. Its inspired by all kinds of things, but I would like to mention Lord_Joakim's You are no god on this painting and TerrisH's original Spore the NES: Cell Phase

This many be considered a 'LOL' NES in that it is not meant to be taken too seriously, makes little pretence to realism, and players will not be judged on length or complexity of input/orders, and I will be attempting to avoid my usual over-expansion.

You are an offshoot of the Source. You exist as consciousness and energy. You exist in a realm beyond time, death, pain, pleasure, hope or fear. You are whole and invincible. Pure awareness flows through you. You feel a primal urge to express yourself, to test yourself, to find out exactly what you are. But you have no points of reference in this realm. And so it is that you expand your awareness into other realms. A part of you diverges, and encounters alien concepts - time, matter, density. You encounter interesting spherical forms - stars, and planets. Other beings are already here, tinkering with laws of physics, setting the first galaxies spinning through space. But they are bored now - their goal is achieved. So it is that you and your brethren inherit this plane of reality.

You experience time as a circle. You see how your focus can alter random quantum fluctuations. Steadily, over millions of years of linear time, you can form new planets and stars by your willpower alone. That is just the beginning. You, of course, experience everything instantaneously. The first stars explode, and matter re-forms in all kinds of interesting combinations. Already you see in your mind the feedback from possible futures - the possibility of life forms of all kinds, countless trillions of individual living beings inhabiting the cosmos.

Could it be that this level of reality offers a way for you to express yourself? To find out what you are made of?

Concept:

In this NES, you will be playing as a godlike trans-dimensional entity. Your consciousness will gradually impart itself to its own creations. Ideally, you will peruse an evolutionary path back to the Source, benefiting from the combined experiences of countless individual existences, something like the following:

Trans-dimensional Entity -> Planet -> Basic Lifeforms -> Complex Lifeforms -> Sentient Lifeforms -> Cosmic civilization -> Transcendent civilization -> Evolved Trans-dimensional Entity (creator of new universes)

But, this is not compulsory. There are unlimited other pathways, such as:

Trans-dimensional Entity -> Sentient Plasma Nebula -> ?

Or:

Trans-dimensional Entity -> Star -> ?

Etc.

There will be basic stats to describe players. Basic pixel graphic illustrations may also be used. A universe of NPC entities is assumed to exist, but they will generally not have stats.

To Begin With:

The physical universe is young, there are no biological entities yet. It is envisioned that at least some players will be taking the form of planets and stars. These entities will be able to inter-act with each other or even merge.

My purpose is to experiment in reality to find as many workable combinations of different atomic particles and forces. Since atomic particles and forces are fundamental to all universes and all other things are mere by-products, I am spreading variety across reality.....and I'm a very curious entity also.

Is this ok daft? I can't tell if it is compatible with the rules, and I only picked it cause atomic forces and particles are really interesting to me, but I change if need be.

Karadan is firmly isolationist, but likes to know what others are doing out of curiousity. This does not, in fact, benefit him though.

Inconsistent- Karadan goes through regular phases of seeking each.

Karadan would call itself neither, though if you stretch the definitions of the terms enough it could be both- it asserts what it considers to be it's own "rights" within the universe, and defends them jealously but will not attack other people's. It is "respectful" in that it does not, but when alone often spews insults against others he honestly believes.

Karadan is possibly unique in that it in no way seeks to return to the Source. It sees itself, and every similiar entity, as being "rightfully independent". It's impulse to live is ultimately what drives it- as long as it can refuse to go back, it will be content to "develop"...

Mreset (Matt0088) - you have manifested as a warm rocky sphere, shrouded in a hazy red atmosphere. An orange star is close by. But you are trapped in orbit of the entity known as Phil (see below). Seams of strange elements poke through the surface, glowing with surreal colours. At night a beautiful aurora is seen in the sky. Your core is hot, made of liquid metal and exotic chemicals. Tidal friction combines with radioactive decay. The heat struggles to break through a thick outer crust. You sense a major upheaval soon. (you have gained affinity with atomic chemistry)

Phil (Condor_green) - you are a large rocky planet. Your surface has been weathered smooth beneath a dense atmosphere of inert gasses. Mreset is your only surviving moon, its serene glow is sometimes visible through the cloud layers. You have gradually migrated closer to your parent star, scattering all other planetoids in your wake. Four gas giants tug at you from the edge of the system. (you have gained affinity with heavy matter)

Boriss (Charles Li) - you are a sub-stellar object, somewhere between a super gas giant and a small star. The fire of nuclear fusion pokes through your outer cloud bands at certain points, forming strange patterns. All kinds of interesting chemistry happens within you. Almost like a comet, you are on a long and very erratic orbit around your parent star - a hot blue giant. You are both trailed by rocky planetoids, but planets have not been able to form around either. (you have gained affinity with matter-energy conversion)

Petro (Pete Atoms) - as you focus on this plane of reality you quickly find yourself drawn into a dense singularity of matter. You are invisible, aside from flickers of light as you passively - but violently - devour passing space debris. You are charting an uncertain course through space. You sense Mreset, Phil, Boriss and their parent stars in your neighbourhood. (you have gained affinity with gravitational forces)

Mask of Phobos (tuxedohamm) - you remain as an energy being, hardly touched by the laws of physics. You are focused in the same galaxy as the others, but otherwise have no specific locality at this time. (you have gained affinity with subtle energy manipulation)

Fuschia - you have quickly grown into a very large and powerful star at the centre of an erratic system, orbited by no less than 5 smaller stars, each at different angles and with its own giant planets in tow. A scattering of tiny rocky planetoids forms a sphere on the perimeter, occasionally sending volleys of comets and asteroids plummeting inwards. You are surrounded by intense electromagnetic fields with anomalous properties. Tangled streams of plasma and charged particles loop inwards towards you, leaching material from your companions. Instabilities build... You sense that this massive and energetic form may be short-lived. (you have gained affinity with high energy physics)

Karadan (Neverwonagame3) - you now experience yourself as a large planet, lingering on the edge of the chaotic Fuschia sextuple system. Complex mineral structures form on your surface - towering crystal spires, surrounded by fractal patterns of strange iridescent material. You are occasionally struck by strange foreign objects - barbaric clumps of rock, metal, or ice. But eventually your surface always repairs itself to its ordered state. Sometimes, the combined starlight is enough to warm your surface, and seas of strange liquid form. But at the furthest point of your orbit, there is permanent night. Fluids crystallise, and the atmosphere falls to ground as thick puffy snow, obscuring ornate details beneath. This orbit is unstable. Perhaps you will soon be captured by one of Fuschia's daughter stars, or catapulted out on a voyage into deep space. (you have gained affinity with delicate matter)

Journey (Vertinari118) - you reflect upon yourself and see a rocky sphere with a scattering of ice-filled craters, travelling alone through space, free from the bonds of any star. How you originally formed, you don't quite remember. Nor do you know how big you are compared to other things. In the distance you see the blazing central star of Fuschia, surrounded by daughter stars of different colours. But much closer, you sense the planet Karadan drifting near you on its long orbit. Perhaps your paths will intersect? (you have conserved your energy)

soulspirit (Metaliturtle) - you experience yourself as a massive sphere of ice. You have rocky organs deep within you, the cores of asteroids which you have absorbed long ago. Now you have grown a skin of cosmic dust, carbon, and more exotic molecules. Nearby, you sense a group of much heavier spherical bodies, parading around a gentle orange star. Suddenly the star is much closer - its rays warm you, and you sense some kind of chemistry happening. Self-replicating molecules whisper to you. But you are distracted by the sight of your long and elegant tail, seeming to stretch off into infinity. You find it hard to tell where you are going... (you have gained affinity with organic chemistry)

Ui (Ninja Dude) - you feel a rush of energy, a blinding light fills your vision, with some kind of exquisite darkness at its core. As your awareness expands, you see a whole galaxy of stars spinning in front of you like a great wheel. You seem to have become grounded as a subtle self-sustaining energy pattern within a massive jet of plasma, stretching light years into space from something big and violent at the centre of this galaxy. Here it seems you could stay quite comfortably for billions of years of linear time, watching everything moving beneath - although if you chose, you could quite easily harness the competing forces to zoom off in any direction. (you have gained affinity with subtle energy manipulation)

Neinom (merciary) - as you cross into this plane of existence you find yourself drawn to dirty, icy debris floating through some random part of space. Waves of radiation strike you, and something interesting begins to happen... You sense the entities Khnosos, 'I', and Lupus in the vicinity (see below), but you do not feel they share appreciation for the clever molecules you are now tinkering with. You are able to set a course to bring you closer to a gentle yellow star, a source of warmth for further experiments. But stable orbits are not fun. You don't want to be here forever. Rocky planets are nearby. Maybe it would be fun to crash into something, or go flying into deep space? (you have gained affinity with organic chemistry)

Khnosos (Seon) - you vaguely remember forming as young hot yellow star, hungry for more matter. You crossed paths with a smaller star, but you became locked in a spiral - faster and faster, until an unbreakable close orbit was formed. You found your focus shifting to the hypnotic plasma and energy patterns swirling between them. Now you exist as an invisible storm of energy at the centre of gravity. Sometimes you direct powerful bursts of energetic particles at nearby star systems, just for fun. A few surviving rocky planets orbit the binary suns at great distance. (you have gained affinity with high energy physics)

The Nameless One (Kraznaya) - like Mask of Phobos, you remain as energy. You are vaguely aware of your old brethren gathering in one particular galaxy. But your gaze is wider still. (you have conserved your energy)

'I' (Kentharu) - You are born as a massive white hot star. You have absorbed all you can from your nebula home - your radiance now blasts the gas clouds out of reach, leaving you alone in the empty womb. A couple of fiery gas giants circle you closely, gradually having their superheated atmospheres stripped from them. (you have gained affinity with star formation)

Lupus (Northen Wolf) - You are a red dwarf star, orbited closely by a single large gas giant, whose orbit you like to perturb and shower with space debris. You follow a much larger, unstable, bright blue star in the distance. It is circled with a vast cloud rocky debris - you enjoy disturbing the orbits as you pass close, making things collide, or hurtle into deep space. (you have gained affinity with gravitational forces)

What is this? I want to play as something else!

Your core energy is always invincible, you can survive supernovas etc and transfer to other forms at will. It is easier to transfer to something close by, and/or something you helped create. A drastic metamorphosis, or switching to something far away, will remove some 'affinity'.

What can I do now?

Of course it depends what you are and whether or not you want to try something else. If you are a planet or star, you can attempt to direct its evolution - accrete more matter, change the atmosphere, attract icy comets for water oceans, alter the orbit, or just focus on remaining as stable as possible, etc.
