  • Well, I definitely won't be surprised given that this game needs more non-European civs. Hoping for something cool like ork75's Haida suggestion here, actually. Solidarity right now seems interesting, not just because of the free SPs at each era, but the implications of cheaper SP costs... then again we'll have to see.

Also yeah, it certainly does feel gamey. Like

Civ1: Hark well met how dee do neighbor
You: GIMME ALL YOUR WORKERS AND LANDS RIGHT NOW BULALA

so much for diplomacy part of the game indeed
Unlike Huxley's magnum opus, I do think this might be a change for the better. Or a complete nightmare, given how certain diplo civs are prone to running away (Alex, Augustus, Bismarck) and with AI advantages at higher diff... something tells me that the loss of individuality would then apply only to the human player

    well, brave new world indeedy
With this World Congress and having the ability to slap sanctions on someone and ban nukes (mebe Stealth too?), the "I Are Runaway" mentality of the previous CiV games will have to change or be thrown out of the window. No longer is it about just that one standout civ who is going to win the game no matter what - now they'll have to act and participate with the rest of the world too, or suffer the consequences
Now with BNW's new trade system (pure speculation btw), especially since they've taken out one of the big things on settling along rivers, you'd definitely have to give those sort of things a lot more thought. "Would it be more prudent to establish trade routes with Wu Zetian, or should I just steal her worker and mess up her early game just coz she built the Great Library". I suspect something similar with city-states since they could be the ones generating your early revenue if you start off sandwiched by those warmonger types, and DOWing them just for their worker... well, this bit we'll have to see how it goes, but I doubt you'd be generating much trade with those city-states when they are Angry.
Take the issue of worker stealing - currently you can do it almost scot free because 1) there is not much to be gained with developing long-term relations with your neighbors 2) let's be honest, treating CSes with respect beyond quests and bonuses is a joke with how that negative influence degrades the longer the game goes. In fact, since one would assume you are already planning on conquering your neighbors, it would behoove you to actually impede their progress first. Hence things like worker stealing, killing off their scouts to prevent them from finding ruins and meeting other civs for all those tech reduction and trade perks, messing up build orders etc. In its own subtle way, the game encourages this sort of aggressive individuality since there can only be one victor at the end
Hmm - the book was about the loss of individuality, and in the context of a 4X strategy game like CiV, that has already sorta happened in whatever civ of choice you'd be playing now or later. But if we were to assume that civs are the ones being individuals, then yes this theme would resonate more strongly.
Cheers - with any luck it won't be as bad as G&K, and all of my mods won't require updates. I've already got ideas for mods to use the new features
    Sure!

My avatar is a combination of 3 different images I photosphopped together:
    1.Gemini Space Walk Picture
    2.Awesome Face
3.A Nebula I can't remember the name of

So basically, it's an awesome face astronaut. :D
There's no such thing as "the" English accent. Just like the US, we have lots and lots of regional accents. :)
Is there too much space, too many ruins... or TOO MANY BARBS (I can just imagine 10+ barb armies milling about early game...)? :p
I figured to ask ya this since its in your field of interest...

Did I abuse the mythological figures of the Inka too much here?
you just provided some excellent spying for me in the GotM 42. i put a screenshot of it in the After Finishing thread for it.
Haha, I keep all my gods alive somehow except Zipacna. But then again in the Popol Vuh we kill him off too
