1.52 Patch Available

Well well well! Civ 1.0 is released at last!

And you can see why they forced it early - no way you could release Civ4 now and have Christmas sales. It is all clear as day...

Downloading now...

Loaded up my current save, plays quicker, good, but now I have units that the focus circle is on the unit, but no unit is visiable, and they are in the fog of war. A new Stealth unit??? Stealth Calvary, Stealth battleship...

The domestic advisor that firaxis has changed, is better than what they had, but still does not present all the information that the modding community has. Now waiting for the creators of the domestic mods to update their verisions.

took me two attemps to get it from in-game downloader but it was pretty quick

notice the game speed increase straight away as my comp was really struggling with the larger maps. wonderful!

don't know if this has been mentioned already but it now when the trade resource comes up it shows how many of that resource you have/are trading/have available in total

it also shows rival civs available gold when you go to the foreign advisor trade and technologies page :)

still waiting to see what the new improved AI does. my civ is growing mega fast and if I don't get attacked I will surely win in a while. got relatively weak defenses and an angry neighbour next to me. surely they must attack me... I'll leave the door wide open deliberately to see if this works

Someone posted earlier that Direct IP Multiplayer got broken by this patch. Anyone else had this problem? I'm not able to test it myself right now, but I usually play this way so it would be nice to know if it's true or not.

I had a problem before with sketchy videos, black terrian, and "cheshire cat" leader images. I downloaded the first patch and the faces were fixed. I downloaded this patch, and now I can't play the game. I choose the scenario settings, it loads, and then the games suffers a "fatal error"--something about running out of virtual memory. This is something I never experienced before.

Am I alone?

Hi everyone! I just joined and will eventually join more creative discussions but now I would like toget the patch to work. I had no problem downloading it, but when I go to install it, a message states that 'The setup has detected that no previous version of Civ IV exists' This is nuts because I have been playing version 1.09 for weeks now. My only guess (and I know beans about this kinda stuff... I'm an oil painter/biophysist) is that I bought the game online instead of via the normal disk inserting way. I don't know.

If anyone can help, It would be so greatly appreciated

Patch v1.52 Standalone Install (44.8mb)

For all those having problems with the games update feature :P

Thank you sooo much for doing this, I couldn't use the ingame updater b/c it's stupid, and was gettin really frustrated. That was a really nice thing to host the patch on your own space and bandwith and all, HAPPY HOLIDAYS mate.

Seems to be a really nice patch. I think we can consider it 1.0 :D. I wonder if I can continue my 1.09 games with 1.52.

Unfortunately, if you buy the game online, you need a different version of the patch, which is usually delayed in its release several days after the regular patch. It's especially unfortunate that they don't tell people about this when they buy the game online.

There's few rules in life. One of them is: ALWAYS....no...wait....NEVER buy a big game like this online.

It warms my heart to see people helping people purely for the sake of doing so. And that sincere expression of gratitude drove the feeling home. Thank you both!!

I tried to install the patch. I got most of the way through the installation and then it died. I got a 1706 error. I'm trying to attach a picture, but the forum isn't cooperating right now.

When I try to play, the game seems to load OK (I'm careful to use the uncached XML with Shift). I try to start a new game or load a game and get a video error. It tells me to go to some odd file location and change some random line, but the file isn't findable.

The exact message is "Your system has run out of video memory. Please trying reducing your video settings. File:\main\civilzation4.bak\SDKs\Gamebry2_0\CoreLibs\NiDX9RendereNiDXRenderedTextureData.cpp, Line:167". I can't find the file.

Everything worked just fine with 1.09.

I can't even uninstall the patch. I guess I'll have to completely uninstall Civ4, reinstall, and repatch to 1.09. Every patch should have an uninstall option.

You can set the HIDEMINSPECWARNING=1 in the .ini file.

Then it won't check your system specs when statrting the game.

DOes this really help out with systems that are under minimum specs? Or do you still need at least minimum specs to actually play..and not just admire the pretty picture?

I'm running P3 800Mhz, 512MB DRAM, Geforce5500, Windows98 and it runs great.

Played about 20 games in the last 2 months, never crashed or had any video problems. Have had audio stutter with the movies, I just shut them off until they get that fixed, maybe they have fixed them with this patch.

Shut off the specs checking in the ini file HideMinSpecWarning=1.

Bottom line, No complaints.
