14th of June Patchnotes

I'm guessing you build 7 courthouses. Courthouses were overpowered before the patch. Annexed cities with courthouses gave you 3 less  than the cities you founded yourself. They've fixed that. I don't know about the revenue, though.

I am going to make an assumption, and we all know what assuming can do.
A Courthouse costs 4 gold for upkeep if Anightdude had seven that would be the 28 gold differential. This is assuming that before the patch not only did CH's take the cities base unhappiness away but failed to charge upkeep.

Same. Longest game I've been able to play has been about 30 turns, give or take. Then a freeze and CTD.

None too pleased.

The aesthetic changes are nice, but I would take a functioning game over pretty layout any day.

Hope they fix it soon.

I think it would help if those of you who are experiencing this problem would post your system specs (CPU, OS, Graphics card, RAM). It's clear that something's wrong, for me the first step is to take a look at the hardware to see if there are any commonalities.

CPU: Intel Core Duo
OS: Windows Vista
GC: Mobile Intel 4 Series
RAM: 5 gigs

As far as I can tell, there shouldn't be a problem, and there wasn't until the update.

Thank you! It's particularly disconcerting when the game ran well before the patch. You might try this fix put forth in another thread:

1. Open up your config.ini (My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/)
2. Look for the following line: EnableGameCoreThreading = 1
3. Change it to: EnableGameCoreThreading = 0

Telling people to continue to give there machine stats is great but the program should not run any different with this poor patch than before.

I also find the wonders list is all jumbled up with wonders overlapping onto others.

I cannot believe the problems with this patch and do imagine a programmer would even put something like this out just rocks my head.

I have seen programmers develop programs before for engineering machines and if this type of problems ever showed up ..well sounds like a lot of work to get all the bugs out of this one... just unbelievable all the problems...real second rate programmming for sure.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already and I just missed it. But have GP got nerfed?

I got GE from HS, another one from Liberty finisher and one hard earned GS. Next GP (everyone but general) will be born at 400GPP. GS was born at 300GPP.

It's a welcome change, on one hand, on the other hand, it really smells like laziness to me. So we'll have 2 GS less. Or will skip ND and will have only 1 GS less. Can't really call it a nerf to bulbing end game party.

Specialforces I sympathize with you because I think we have very similar machines but as yet I am still offline with Steam. There are people that have top notch systems that think the patch is great, but as you say, that is not the point.

I think this could be the first example in software history, where a patch is not actually a patch, but a complete rebuild guised as a patch. I can understand that the rebuild could be a good thing in the long run and that it is possible that Civ5 and GnK could not exist together without the patch, but this appears to be a precedent in the software industry where people on previously working old versions of software are being used as beta testers for a new version of software, whether they like it or not.

This can be "reasoned" as being for the greater good for all of us.....

If this patch is rewriting the history of what we understand a patch to be, then it should retrospectively uphold what we used to think a patch is supposed to do. It should not deteriorate performance in any way, and it should include thorough patch notes about what has changed.

There are players out there on older hardware that were happy with the performance pre-patch. Do not forget them. We are living in tough economic times and buying a new piece of plastic and silicon called a PC these days should not be triggered by a new patch concept in the software industry.

Cheers

Sorry, I am new to this. Didn't want to read the 18 pages of content. But I have a Mac and I'm still on .511. Meaning I didn't receive the .647? (may be wrong) patch. Is this common for macs. And yes I reinstalled it twice. And no this isn't a torrent game.

Don't have a Mac, but I've noticed that Mac patches seem to lag Windows ones by weeks or months.

You should probably post that in this thread.

The Mac patches take some time. Aspyr is probably working on it right now. I don't have a Mac myself, but I know that an Aspyr rep posts a lot in the Civ V Mac forums here at CFC, so you can usually check there and see what is up regarding patches and other tech stuff.

I do agree with you. The quality of development seems to be aimed at newer machines. That is fine when you release a 'new' game. But a patch should make the problems of the initial release to work better and just remove or make small changes that allow the game to run with fewer gliches.

This patch is acting like a new program that is designed to run on a 4 or 8 core computer system. This is not the intent of the initial Civ 5 game.

G and K should just be no more than an dlc that we have purchased in the past with no major upgrade changes. Seems they are getting carried away with more graphics and forgetting about the playability of the game.

I know aviation and military programming is not into developing programs that run better on faster and better systems. The programmers in these fields are worth their weight in gold who know the programming techniques that optimize speed with simplicity and high quality coding.

I know gaming companies don't have the programmers that military and aviation engineers are but they should be capable of programming to ensure sales are good and reviews will break or make a game.

I know for sure Civ 5 is getting a lot of people telling others not to purchase the game and suggesting other alternatives. Is a shame when Civ 5 has the potential of being such a good strategy game that could compete with others. But if patches like this one is going to make it not playable the company will loose a lot of sales...for sure.

Just wish they would fix the game or just let steam reload the old files before the patch so we could play the game. People would be more pleased for sure.

I sorry if this has been mentioned before. I read some of the 18 pages but did not see my problem.
When I start the game, it loads to the main screen. If I load a saved game it just searches forever for it and never finds it. Then I have to either ctrl-alt-del out, or restart my system. I tried again starting a new game, it loads (eventually), but then when I try to select a character or production, I cannot. It makes the selection noise, but the games freezes and I must re-start the system to get out.
Help!!!!

if this patch was to assist modders would it not be far better to just release a new game for modders to design and play with and let the pure game players have the basic game.

I think the company is trying to put to much into one game. The game plus modders just won't work.

I bought a new machine days before the release. It has the following:

Quad core i7
2.2 - 3.1 ghz
Video graphics 2 GB
RAM 8GB

The game has become unplayable due to slowness. I have read the comments about threading and setting the value 0 rather than 1.

Will that help a quad core? I would have thought enabling more cores would have been better or does it work in reverse somehow?

Also, I have noted the Diplomacy screen options (the text of Diplomacy, victory etc) on the top right of the screen now extend outside the menu box area.
