14th of June Patchnotes

Along with Oz's deleting the .wmv files (which, might have also helped SF rather than a full reinstall).

actually on this point:

If Oz or someone who deleted their .wmv files could check to see if their system can even run .wmv files, that would be great.

If you codecs are broken (not Civ related), your associations to the .wmv files are wrong (wrong codec/program being used for them) or you don't have the .wmv codecs at all (Win XP mainly) then fixing that will likely help more than deleting the .wmv files.

Wouldn't that automatically mean that the game wouldn't be even ABLE to play the wmv files? Because Civ 5 has no problem with playing the files.

Winamp has no issue playing the wmv file.

I didn't change anything with my config file. Left it alone and it seemed to work ok. All my mods and lot of my old files were gone that I had before so a new install seemed to help.

I am no saying it is perfect. The city screens are slow to respond but is playable. There are some game play gliches still with how the game plays but the speed is ok and hope the new fix will work...I think it is to be out today for us to use.

I have a dual core processor on a laptop and the laptop is a low end for the game. I usually play standard games with 6 to 8 civilizations including myself. So I don't tax the system with long games.

The units move more in sync and animation is ok. There is a gliche with the popup screens showing before the unit reaches the ruin or cs.

The technology tree will sometimes lad a bit when you select in advance for technologies. But just selecting one technology one at a time it works ok.

The re-install just seemed to get rid of some files that the computer or the patch didn't need and had some comflicts with.

I haven't tried changing the config file threading because didn't want to make to many changes until the next patch comes out today.

Ok, thanks for getting back to me. I guess I'll just wait for the hotfix then. Do we have confirmation from 2K that the fix is coming out today?

Here is another bug or gliche...When I was allied to a cs and they had coal and it was developed I was not receiving any of the resource from the cs.

I assume this is a gliche.

was it on a hill that was mined before you got to see Coal on the map?

If the City State doesn't have the technology, they can't 'see' the coal to give it to you. So if there weren't enough AIs that had the tech, then the CSs won't get it.

Yikes, 21 pages. No, I didn't read them all, just skipped around, but I didn't see anyone post my issue. I did this in another thread but its dead.

I have slow initial loading. The movie used to end when the old guys eyes shift to the door as his son walks in. I don't know where it would be now, cause if I hit escape, I get the new pictures. But wow, like a solid minute or more longer loading time. I thought the whole point of the pics was to speed up loading. Anyway, lots of performance issues listed here, so I'll move on.

Here is the important part. When a unit takes damage, the icon (big round icon of the unit as well as damage indicator) above that unit disappears. The icon doesn't come back until the unit is fully healed, and THEN moves.

It makes finding units hard, and it is really easy to miss damage enemy units, unless you play all zoomed up. What worse is it not easy to tell which units are yours and which are his in a big melee.

I didn't see anyone else mention this, but I also didn't plow through 21 pages. I fear its just me :(

That is possible because I am playing as Korea and well ahead of most of the other civs because I am focusing on a science victory.

The hill was probably developed with a mine on it before i was able to see coal.

Did something change about the AI's perception of a reasonable peace treaty?

It is just impossible to make peace with anyone. If you just defend, and kill the invaders the AI thinks he's winning and asks 2/3 of your income. Even if you grab a couple of cities (or even the capital!!) this does not or only slightly change..

...not sure if this is just post-patch or that I just recently started getting more annoyed.

Edit: It is reminds me of this monty python sketch: "oh just a scratch", "What? You lost your arm!"

- Quick combat and Quick Movement options are now part of the Options menu and can be changed during gameplay.
- Options menu now contains "Skip intro video."

Finally!
When i first played Civ 5 I could not believe the retardation of the programmers. This is BASIC LEVEL design which should be in order. How could it become worse from Civ 4??!

Yes, go take his cities. In fact, since this is a low level like Prince, go for broke and take out his entire empire.

You'll see him singing a vastly different tune when you are marching at his capital's gates.

LOL! When I first started playing Civ 5 I took peace treaties as long as the terms weren't ruinous. It didn't take many games for me to grow weary of peace treaty > wait ten turns > DoWd again.

Now I take peace treaties all right. I take them just as soon as I've beaten the AI down to its crappiest little city and then only after I've finished pillaging every improvement within that city's cultural boundaries.

EDIT: And you're next, Gandhi!

Can't be doing with all the lag problems so probably time I invested in a new PC. Can anybody tell me if this is any good?

Mozzington, those specs are pretty similar to my machine and it works alright. I expected more from it though. I also have hsd to do the enable thread thing setting to 0.

It'''s an on/off switch., not a numerical value.

i = on. 0 = off

Animations are nice, but its better leaving them disabled until they give the option for turn based multiplayer, every time a animation plays it moves your camera to show it and by then you move back your opponent makes the first move. This screws with fast paced combat that multiplayer currently is when the camera shifts to show you a barbarian is attacking a unit from far away where the real action is.

I'd love to be able to turn off camera-yanking altogether. Having the camera zoom halfway across the map to show me some Barbarian getting slapped around when I'm, for instance, looking over inbound enemy troops is one of the most annoying aspects of the game. A flashing dot on the mini-map would be more than sufficient to get my attention. I've taken to making my moves and then switching to strategic view.
