So, I bought a 24 inch HD samsung monitor (technically work paid for it, but whatever).

I am running a dual screen setup with a 19 inch viewsonic, off a 8800 gts 512.

For some reason the max resolution windows xp will allow me to set for the samsumg is 1680 x 1050, which looks a bit.. rough. i'd like to up it to the native resolution of 1920 x 1200, but i don't even see that option there.

My display drivers are up to date - that's the last thing I did. graphics card drivers, could they be the issue?

Or could it maybe be the cord I'm using? i'm using the one that came with the display.

I'd have used the "questions not warranting their own thread" thread, but there isn't that much activity in this subforum anyway...

Can you set it via the nvidia control panel?

Nope, it has the same options available to me as right-clicking on the desktop and hitting properties, then settings.

When I went through the nvidia "dual-monitor" wizard, or whatever it is, it even gave me less options for the samsung - the highest there was 1600x1200, which got me excited for a fraction of a second, until i saw the 1600..

If you remove the 19", can you set that resolution? YOu can also try using RivaTuner to force a specific resolution for a monitor.

How about the spot in the nvidia control panel where you can type in a resolution?

Are you talking about 'Manage custom resolutions' ? I've tried that, and when I go and test it (it makes you test before you can set it), the test always fails.

I've downloaded RivaTuner, but couldn't find any resolution settings in there. Where do I look?

I haven't tried unplugging the 19", I will try that later, even though I don't think it's gonna do much. I am willing to try anything :)

Very strange update:

I just went into the "Change Resolution" panel of the NVIDIA Control Panel again, and 1920 x 1200 pixels was all of a sudden there.

I've been playing with this for days, and this is the first time I've seen it there. I've made the switch, and it worked perfectly.

WTH?!??!

What exactly is the OS in the first one? Looks like some cross between Windows XP and Mac OS (at least what I saw on the school laptops). And I've never seen the taskbar at the top of the window.

So how is the difference? My friend has a T220 which is 22" and at 1880x1050. How is your 24" (And specificaly, is it the T240?) at 1920x1200? As I am probably going to buy the T240.

Sorry for the slow response, I haven't been on here too much lately - visitors from abroad over the weekend, etc.

The T240 is GREAT - my 19 inch looks tiny beside it.

I'm not really sure how I can give you a better answer than "GREAT" though :).
