20-digit Registration Codes

Just Dl it if nothing else succeeds, maxis can't get any sympathy from me anymore with their latest "game".

Moderator Action: Moved to Computer Talk. And a reminder - the OP is talking about a game he legally purchased, so mention of "cracked codes" is within the rules, but please don't stray into talk of piracy.

Write the code on the disc. That way you can't lose it unless you lose the disc, in which case you're not going to need the code anyway.

That's what I always do (I don't know if I have any disk requiring a code without the code written manualyl on it), but it sucks when you forget to copy it to a paper and you need to take the disk out of the drive to copy the code... :( That happens to me roughly 80% of the time, I don't know why I can never anticipate that.

My copy of SC4 deluxe has the Cd key on the jewel case. How do you lose the jewel case without losing the game itself?

I put my game disk into a packet full of other disks, then I lost the jewl case.

Shylock, could you PM me the Cd key, unless that's against the forum rules.

And what about the Dawn of the modern world Cd key?

I backup all my registration codes on Google Documents. When I get a new one, I just add it to the end.

If you find a torrent of the games, they usually have a .nfo or a keygen that can help you. On most reputable torrent sites (demonoid or Isohunt for instance), people will comment if something has malware/viruses.

Plus you can always scan the keygen yourself. If its something like a .nfo file though, you probably wont even need to worry about that.

Note: For NFO files, I have to right click it to open in Notepad. Otherwise, it tries to open in system settings. You can probably change this in the filetypes thing, but I'm lazy.:D

I think Maxis was a good company until EA ate them up. I miss the SimGames. Now all they seem to make is Sims expansions, SimCity, and Spore. :(

It sucks way less than not having the key at all!

Sims 1 & 2 and Simcity 4 were all good games made after they joined EA. Things kind of went downhill from Sims 2 Pets on. Spore is a disaster and they let someone else make simcity 5 (or societies) which is the worst SimCity game ever.

Yeah. I like SimCity 4.
Haven't tried SimCity Societies, although I want to. I'll wait till the price drops to 10-20 or so.
The Sims are okay, but not really my thing. I usually just end up killing them off.:p
I'd also like to try Spore, but I'm a little wary of the SecuROM controversy.

I like "software toys," or "freeplay games" if you prefer.

I really really like their (Maxis') early games. I think I have nearly all of them, even SimHealth (really obscure -- I had to download it. Not one of their best, I'll admit that.)
Although not all on CD some are downloaded, the ones I have on CD are SimCity 2K, SimCity 3K, SimCity 4 (ok, not old but I still count it) Streets of SimCity, SimTower, SimIsle (3 copies!), SimEarth, SimCopter, SimTown, SimCoaster, SimGolf, SimTheme Park. I think there's more. I used to have SimSafari but the CD broke so I downloaded it.

Ihaven't heard of half of them. I used to have SimFarm which was ok but it wouldn't work on my new computer (this was before I heard of emulators) so I gave it away with and old computer.

I've heard of SimTower, SimEarth and SimAnt(had that one aswell) and obviously the simcity games.

Also if your interested in old Maxis games, Simcity 1's source code is GPL'd now under the name Microplis. It's also a free download if your not interested in programming.

Cool.

Okay, here's the list of SimGames (not including SimCity or the Sims) from memory:
Not in any order -- just the order I remember it!

SimEarth
SimFarm
SimLife
SimIsle
SimTown
SimHealth
SimTower
SimAnt
SimCoaster
SimThemePark
SimSafari
SimPark
SimCopter
Streets of SimCity ('driving' game)
SimGolf
Sid Meier's SimGolf (I've heard it's different from SimGolf, but not sure how.)
SimTunes (Never heard of this anywhere except Wikipedia)

SimMars, Simsville and SimRefinery were never released.
SimAnimals is due to be released in 2009.

Okay, here's the entire list from Wikipedia. I'm impressed at my memory!

Here's a wierd thing: I finally got the keys for those games that I mentioned by a person online (i will not say wheather on this forum or on another) and I tried them. They worked, but when I had to insert the second disk the installaion froze. Any ideas?

P.s., I am planning on just buying a new game, so I just want to figure out why this happened.

Sim Safari is the WORST sim game they have made so far. In my opinion. It is so boring.

It was made for kids, so consider that. I happen to like it :)

I think SimHealth is the worst. No humor. It's really really dry and difficult to play:( Its very rare and only for DOS but you can download it online.
