Yo Red, I'm ready to make the pick earlier if you would like...

Chris Berman: Here with us today, of course, this being draft day...is THE draft guru, ESPN's own Mel Kiper. Mel, what are you hearing regarding the Raiders and this pick?

Mel Kiper: Well, the initial thought was JaMarcus Russell. It had been that way for months inside the Raiders organization but in the last few hours there might have been a change of heart. New headcoach Lane Kiffin is said to not be warming up to Russell as the face of his new regime, and having spent a high pick on Robert Gallery a few years ago...who knows where the Raiders could be going here.

Chris Berman: Well, thanks Mel *chuckles*. The commissioner is now walking to the podium, so lets listen in for the first selection of the day.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell walks to the podium

Goodell: Hello everyone and welcome to the 2007 NFL Draft, here in New York City. I had a long speech planned but I decided the best way to start my first NFL Draft as commissioner would be to get started with the picks, so...

With the first choice in the 2007 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select...

Brady Quinn, Quaterback from the University of Notre Dame.

Interesting pick. His lack of mobility may be a concern behind the Raiders poor line. Even Brooks, a decently mobile QB struggled. Russell could have the speed and strength to avoid pressure. But Russell may have just been on a hot streak while Quinn has been great his whole career.

Btw the Raiders will probably take Russell in real life, as Al Davis loves strong arms.

Al Davis also has a loooong history of not starting rookie QB's, but Quinn impresses me. He was the ONLY reason Notre Dame had a winning record of significance the last two years. He also has a very high work ethic, and he'll need it to be successful in Oakland.

I am a huge SEC fan, but JaMarcus never really impressed me. Last year there was even talk of Flynn (right?) taking his job, and he wasn't even the best QB in the SEC this year IMO (Erik Ainge did more with less, but was injured a little bit and Andre Woodson got Kentucky to a bowl game). So yea, redfusion changed my thinking a bit.

I really thought about Calvin Johnson but with trade interest in Moss waning, I don't think having half of your offense's money or more tied into recievers. Jerry Porter apparently is happy with Lane Kiffin and Ronald Curry is still there.

Joe Thomas isn't realistic here either, considering what the Raiders just went through with Robert Gallery. Tackles are not sure things either.

As a ND fan I hope he doesn't go to Oakland--he will be running for his life and really poor first & second seasons often damage a career beyond repair.

Chris Berman: Well NFL fans we are up to the second pick in the 2007 draft--hey Mel, quit leading those fans in the " Millan sucks chats "

Mel Kipper Jr. O.k. I'm back

Chris Berman Well serve up some info, thats why ESPN pays you 100 x's what your worth to give us incorrect infomation

Mel Kipper Jr. o.k., they take a WR

Chris Berman Really?

Mel Kipper Jr Hey, I got a 50/50 chance of being right!

Chris Berman Well we will know in a minute, the commissioner is walking to the mike.

With the second pick in the 2007 NFL draft, the Detriot Lions select Ted Ginn Jr fron OSU----No I'm just kidding--sorry Matt   , The Lions select Joe Thomas, OT from Wisconsin.

Chris Berman Hey, with all their OL problems over the last 2-3 years a pick that makes sense, are sure this was the Lions picking?

Maybe it would be a good idea to PM everyone who signed up first?

Yeah, I'll do that today for everyone that hasn't posted in this thread yet. I just didn't have a chance before I left for Chicago to do it.

**By the way, the Browns won the coin toss in Indy and will have the 3rd pick of the first round. The Bucs and Browns will flip spots through the rest of the draft (i.e. the bucs get the third pick of the second round, browns get the 3rd pick of the 3rd round).

Oh, and if anyone wants to take another team, feel free. Just reference the old thread to see what teams are still available.

**And Kraznaya, I just saw your pick in your last post (busy trying to get everything in order this morning), so obviously ignore he pm I sent.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT! Did you just say SPEED and RUSSELL in the same sentence?!?!?! Are you serious?! The dude runs a 4.9 40-time. Heck, at least Quinn can outrun his own offensive lineman with a 4.68.

If anyone is interested in making a deal for the third pick the browns are taking offers.

Remember, Calvin Johnson, Jamarcus Russell, and Adrian Peterson are all still on the board, arguably the top 3 talents in this draft.

Oy, the Bucs forgot...tails never fails.:shake:

The Raiders took Quinn at 1? They should have traded that pick...he would have still be on the board at 8-10.

Maybe, maybe not. I didn't know what you or pawpaw or whoever's playing Minnesota were planning, and alot of teams still have Quinn higher than Russell on thier draft boards.

Probably more now that JaMeaty Russell came to the combine looking like, as one scout there put it, 'Charles Barkley.' Now that's just harsh. I'm sure a lot of teams have dropped him to the second round and a few other even further.

Anyways, The Browns are ready with their pick.

With the 3rd pick in the 2007 CFC GM Mock Draft, the Cleveland Browns select:

Adrian Peterson - Running Back - Oklahoma University

Analysis: The Browns had only two runs of more than 20 yards this past season...and one was by the back-up quarterback. Peterson gives them the home run threat they need to adequately run their play-action offense.

Ok, Tampa's pick is very very obvious, but I guess we have to get the formality of it out of the way ;)

I don't know, maybe they pull a Houston and go with a urgent need on defense. The defensive line in particular could use a serious youth and talent infusion.

Wait wait; I is the confused... I thought I signed up for the Lions? Eh, I was going to pick Joe Thomas anyway... just don't steal the Rams' GM job from me.
