2011 MLB Thread

dom brown right now is raw. move brown to left and put pence's bat in right. he is a lot like werth in many regards which they miss tremendously imo. no way i agree brown in more valuable now although he is surely part of their future - or should be. would never trade him imo...

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

Being no-hit when you're missing your best offensive players is one thing. But FIVE ERRORS?!? FIVE? You cannot lose series at home when your starters hold the other team to 3 runs or less every game. You just can't.

Giants got Beltran.

Giants needed offense, even 34 year old 2 month rental offense. I guess Sabean figured he could lose a blue chip pitching prospect since he already has a young rotation of studs as it is.

Did anyone see the Pirates Braves call in the 19th? Wow. The only explanation I can fathom is the catcher missed the tag, but still... wow.

Ya, that was horrendous. (wouldn't have been a problem if I was commish:p). His explanation was indeed that he thought he "ole'd" him.
Awful way to end what could have been a real momentum builder for Pittsburgh. Instead of being on top of the division and coming off (a chance for) an epic win against a team that is ahead of them in the wild card standings, they are a game back and no doubt deflated somewhat by being screwed; plus their bullpen is suddenly overtaxed and they don't have a day off until August 11.

The tribe was no-hit, but at least they weren't shut out. Frosting on a crap sandwich, i know; but it beats no frosting.

i'm surprised this thread's resident techies have not been rolling out the 'more replay-we need computers in sports' argument. douchy call, file it under the 'another crappy call' category.

Too soon to go on that rant again. Maybe if the Braves edge the Pirates by a game for the wild card we can revisit it. :)

We have already said our piece and yet "tradition" must stay in baseball. I guarantee that if there is a call like that that decides the outcome of game seven in the World series, we will hear it from every where about the need of replays. Even Cricket, the game of traditions has been using replays for contentious decisions for awhile now. Adding replays do decisions like that should not take too much extra time in the game.

Yeah, basically this. We already have 4 young studs as it is, so I think our rotation is pretty much set for the next at least 4 or 5 years, and while his A-ball stats are good, I don't think we'll be missing out too much by giving him up. More importantly, the Mets have put up part of the dough for the rest of his contract and if his bat comes around to help us in the playoffs it'll be a good get. Most importantly, it keeps him from the Phils and the Braves which is going to be huge going into the postseason. What I want to know is if we secured any stipulations from Beltran for future contract extensions.

beltran will want mint this offseason. boras is his agent too. i just don't see him as a game changer. he'll help the giants' lineup for sure. but he should not be one of those $15M+ a year guys.

Yeah I wouldn't want to sign Beltran either. I hope Sabean is learning that his usual style of relying on old over the hill veterans to fill important gaps, with young guys playing a supporting role, is not working.

Yeah, in a way I feel like Sabean kind of stumbled into the WS win in spite of what he did. Not a knock of the 2010 squad--they deserved it, they won it fair and square and every WS winner has a lucky game and a lucky break here and there on the way to their victory. They were a confident and clutch bunch and they still have that swagger this year, too. Since their pitching is solid they could do it again, and having Beltran certainly makes them better.

BUT, looking back at that team on paper it's pretty amazing they were able to do it. I mean, Renteria, Uribe, Huff, Burrel, Rowand... bleh.

they find ways to ways to win and their pitching from A-Z is best in all of mlb, i think. hate to admit that  saw timmy keep the phightin's in check last night at CBP. had kewl seats just off to foul territory of the RF pole. i had a neat conversation with a gentleman while waiting in line for some crab fries. we discussed how unfortunate it is that timmy makes $13M a year and still can't find a dentist :p
