2013 NCAA Football Thread

South Carolina is absolutely dominating UNC at the line of scrimmage right now, on both sides of the ball. If that doesn't change this is gonna get ugly

Yeah, that didn't look good, and it'll get worse as the game moves into the 4th quarter. Oh well, this is the team I picked to win the East after all :mischief:

I was surprised to see Clowney so gassed at the end of UNC's TD drive. Yeah, it was 16 plays or whatever, but it was pretty much the only time he'd been on the field. SCAR owned the 1st quarter . . .

EDIT: All those shiny new recruits don't seem to be doing Ole Miss much good. This would be Vandy's 4th straight win over that team from Oxford . . .

Nice comeback by Vandy. UNC play-calling was horrible. Those 2 yd/minus 2 yd passes make me sick.

They're a main part of their offense, but I think they used them a little more this time in an attempt to neutralize Clowney, who maybe didn't really need neutralizing.

What did y'all think of Ole Miss? Local and national reaction seems to be positive, but I wasn't that impressed. Nkemdiche certainly looks the part and I'm sure all the freshmen will continue to improve as Ole Miss progresses through the season, but I didn't see anything last night that would lead me to believe they'll be a threat to upset Texas or the top half of the West . . .

Well, good for them I guess at practice.

speed up offense/ 2nd and 10/ -2 yd pass/ 3rd and 12/ Incompletion/ weak punt.

should be an awesome year.

True, SC D was flying around for the most part. It was just depressing how weak UNC was on offense. I was more hyped than they were it seemed.

Yeah, other than Clowney they looked pretty good. UNC's offense should look better the rest of the season. The toughest team on the schedule from here on out is probably Miami. None of their remaining opponents is ranked, though that will change . . .

Future Big XII bowl lineup released . . .

As unlikely it will be, nothing should make people happier than Buffalo upsetting Ohio State and putting super douchebag Urban Meyer in his place.

I feel bad beating up on Buffalo.

Some thoughts:

--We won! Yay! Gonna have to do something about that offense though.
--Alabama let me down. Notwithstanding the score, I was hoping for VT to feel the pain a bit more.
--An (unranked) FCS team beat a (not necessarily terrible) BCS team by 32 points. They were winning by 26 at the half. Jesus.

Skip Holtz may have been let go, but his legacy of horrible lives on at USF. If it makes Lane Kiffin feel like he has any redeeming qualities, i'd take him as a head coach over Skip Holtz any day.

See? See?!? Nobody listens to me . . .

9 punts and 11 first downs . . .

6 of 17 on third down . . .

206 total yards . . .

2.5 yards per rush . . .

And this was against a VaTech team decimated by transfers, suspensions and injuries . . .

Without the TDs on returns, we won 14-10 . . .

The defense was pleasantly stout, but again, consider the opposition. Tonight's LSU team would have eaten tonight's Alabama team alive. Tonight's Georgia team would have beaten us pretty soundly. I'm not sure if any other SEC team looked that great on opening weekend. Miss State outperformed expectations, but that's a relative statement . . .

Really nice win for Dabo and Clemson tonight btw. If they can get past Jameis Winston and FSU I think they've got a good shot against SCAR to end the season. Tough to read that far in advance though. Not many teams will look the same in week 14 as they did in week 1 . . .

You know what, you're right. I watched every snap of that game, and Alabama's offensive line really didn't look that great. Part of that was the play calling, part of that is the fact that Tech's defensive line is actually really good, but yeah, they did a particularly terrible job run blocking.

Luckily, Tech is totally devoid of any kind of skill position talent outside of Logan Thomas, who was *dreadful*, so this wasn't much of a contest. Without the returns, I imagine playcalling would have changed a little and Alabama would have found a way to score again, but yeah, LSU, Georgia, and probably South Carolina would have beaten them if they played like that.

I thought South Carolina looked very good against what should be a good UNC team (their QB is a lot more mobile than I thought). I was also really impressed with Clemson, especially on defense in the second half, with LSU, with UCLA, WASHINGTON, Michigan, and yeah, even Indiana (I know it was an FCS team, but FCS teams were wreckin' people's weekends!).

Ohio State looked fine, given how many players they were missing. Love the early aggressiveness, LOVE Dontre Wilson (SEC SPEEEED), love Braxton's improved passing. Defensive line needs more practice, but sine SDSU just got BLOWN out by an FCS team, I think they'll be okay for next week.

Cal may not win many games this year, but it looks like they're going to be fun as hell to watch.

I'm calling for three losses, but if the SEC goes, say, 9-5 on opening weekend, what are all the talk shows going to be about next week . . ?

Eh, 10-4. Actually not that bad . . .

BTW, Alabama's total offense of 206 yards Saturday night was the lowest total since the second game of the 2008 season. We've played a lot of great defenses since 2008 . . .
